Think Pakistanis think
by sridhar raghavan chari on Jun 15, 2007 06:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Let this column be a message to all of rediff's Pakistani readers, who cannot think beyond India. The fact is that an India-Pakistan dispute will be used by the US-Russia-China to fight their own small battles. We have but a golden chance to emerge as the fourth power if we unite into a EU-style confederation, if you dont like the word reunification. If we keep fighting with each other the theatre of action will shift from Afghanistan and Iran to much beyond. And both India and China will be wooed and kicked in turn by each of these big powers. Wake up... Dont be a pawn in this new game. Pakistan has access to central Asian oil and India to water. Think of what will come out of this combination, if we leave religion aside.

Ragavan jee. We agree...but but but...to show good faith, give us the rest of Kashmir BEFORE we liberate it, and Manvanagar (Pakistani territory) , Junagarh (Pakistani territory) and Kutch, as well as Gurdaspus and Ferozepur. Don't forget to withdraw from Sir Creek and Siachen. Also give us the percentage of treasury, gold and monies due to us from 1947.

Surely 10 years of peace after that, and everything is possible!

See sridhar raghavan, the moment you give them a different option of peace and brotherhood, they drop down to their levels and start begging. Once and for all Pakistan should be conquered and defeated as in the past and should be made aware of their stand. Seems they forget the lessons of the past and want to repeat the history. This Paki wants some parts of India. We should ask for Pakistan as a whole since it was a part of India just 6 decades ago.

I haven't known a more pompous person than you. don't you understand that the very existence of your country is at stake if you continue being the US's pawn. Iam not talking about any peace in exchange for land deal. In case you missed out on the point, Iam talking of a de facto reunification between the two countries in which all borders and indeed all conflict is redundant. Hope you understand and finally do be courteous enough to mention you name when you reply.

Yours is a recipe for suicide & disaster...Pakis are avowed jihadists as of now...its a generation gone wrong..they cant even tolerate fellow Shias, Kadianis, Ismailies etc and you expect Pakis gonna tolerate your Ganpathy worshipping kafir ass??? no way buddy, India is better off without those goons..remember even Arab Muslims & Christians cant get along in Lebanon, Greek & Turks dont get along in a little island called Cyprus...a tiny country of 3.5 million (a quarter of Karachi city for crying out loud goshhhhh!!!)called Israel is not tolerated for 60 years and been sworn to drive into the Mediterannean no less...and you think de facto reunification of India & Pakistan will do any good?? are you crazy??? no way buddy...the only way anything peaceful will come is when the Islamic religious fervor is replaced with rational thinking..possible if religion is displaced from state affairs, text books & schools are secularized etc..till then stay away from Pakis, enjoy their ghazals & the pretty women that are send once in a while !!

Pakistan army in the guise of mountain tribes entered Kashmor in 47' and captured part of Kashmir before being forced to withdraw by the Indian army;they would've captured kashmir thanks to the betrayal of the muslim border regiment of Maharajah's army. These tribes(actually pak army) got busy raping kashmiri women in baramulla and wasted precious hours making it possible for Maj. Somnath Sharma to defend Srinagar airport.Pak army's adventures were repeated in 65', Kargil, etc. You try to capture Indian territory, lose in the battle end up giving 1-2 army posts that's not India's fault? and how do u expect India to return these outposts? these lands are the price Pakistan paid for attacking India.Regarding percentage of treasury, gold and monies ...we'll give you your due provided you take all quasi paki muslims from India. When we see we have only patriotic muslims left in our country,we'll witness a sharp fall in terrorist activities and then we'll talk peace

Agreed, very well written indeed. The title still is a little vague though and probably not the most appropriate.

Even if Washington re-evaluates its policy, it can't resort to any other option but continued tie-up with Musharraf. Pakistan is in a sorry state of predicament and will continue to be so unless they change their state of mind which is highly unlikely to happen given their track record.

At some point of time, Pakistan is going to run out of hypocricy and would clearly need to side with the American or Chinese side. It would be interesting to witness where the time will lead us with the "with us" or "against us" attitude.

You are forgetting one thing "Man by nature is a selfish animal". Greed is the root cause for all the ills of Human Kind. Also, man is also one of few spieces who enjoy on other sufferings.

So this is our nature though we are civilised and still the animal intinct is still intact in us.

booty ( captured wealth and women ) of other religious people is allowed to be obtained by some religions, others dont.
concept of kafir , jiziya is allowed in some religions, others dont.
that is the root cause of religious conflict .

Hindus will and have eliminated these things because they don'y blindly follow any books. They are free to use their brains unlike muslims who dogmatically follow the quran. No muslim says xyz portion of the quran is wrong and needs to be deleted while Hindus are free to critically examine their books. Thats the difference.

Dear by/AR/epsilon,'Taking the wife of dead brother' was done by aurangzeb when he married dara shikoh's widow, the ukranian jaipuri.Raja Rammohan roy got sati banned.Mahatma gandhi got untouchability banned. So reforms came from within the hindus themselves.ALL relegions in the world have customs which might have been ok when when they were first introduced but became ugly and repugnant with time.Like hindu reformers, christian reformers reformed christianity.A religion undergoes changes as far as customs and practices are concerned.Accept the fact that Islam too has a lot of pratices that need reforms and try to do something about it.Do not say what is written 1300 years back has to be followed to the T.The holy book of every religion (gita, old testament, bible etc) has a touch of divinity but interpretations differ.Try to look inwards for all that is wrong with your religion, wage a spiritual battle within yourselves and purify your fellow believers instead of trying to spread your religion through violence and hatred.

Can you tell which muslim army went to Indonesia or Malaysia or the whole of north Africa ? These places have millions of muslims. How did they become muslims without violence ? Well according you muslim can only become a muslim because some violence played part in it. Will you become a muslim if someone shows a sword to you? I guess you will say that you are a muslim to save your life but after that person removes the sword you wont continue to remain a muslim. Its not like a switch that you can turn on or off by a sword.

Mr Rehman you need to please separate what motivates or inspires some person to aggressive behaviour rather than citing Hitler as a christian or gujjars as HIndus...none of these examples used any Christian or HIndu inspiration.....LTTE do not qoute chapter & verse of the Geeta to justify their terror tactics...nor are they in the business of establishing Hindu Caliphate...now Islam is entirely different..its the only religion where the founder established an Empire - the Caliphate..Jesus did not establish one..nor did Buddha..nor were these religions aspiring to rule the world thru Shariat...therefore please do not categorize all religions in the same mould...Islam is totally different..it has its own laws, its own morals, its economics etc...it is constantly at war against anything not Islam...please remember Jesus preached a new religion but he did not break any temples, on the other hand Pr MOhammad destroyed all the idols in the Kaba..why?? he was doing away with al competition..think abt it Rehman sahab !

Of course religion can be modern...it can be displaced as a personal choice and not a political agenda...Islam is a political agenda, at least fundamentalist Islam is...if religions effect ur life so much then why should u accord it immunity from criticism & scrutiny?? why has islam have to be 'respected' so that u cant even write or draw cartoons without being threatened wiht with life??? The Hollywood movie 'Last Temptation of Christ' showed Jesus in love with Mary Magdalene..people were hurt but no one burnt n threatened...the Jews have been hurt by the holocaust but we dont see Jews lobbing bombs into a church or restaurant in Munich to kill..so Rehman sahab religions can be modernized simply if u let people talk and discuss and criticize and praise without enforcing blasphmey laws...lets see u hv the courage to do so!

Well you knowledge of history seems to be very poor. Was Islam involved in world war 1 and 2 ? For argument sake lets assume that ramayana and mahabharata were true, so all those people killed were due to Islam ? Were there no conflicts before Islam ? These are political struggles and you are not helping them by branding them as religious struggles. There is a struggle for natural resources. Trust me if India had an immense oil wealth like Gulf then hinduism would have been branded as the most violent religion. So instead of spreading hate and disturbing your own mind, think in terms of peace.

Dear Epsilon,
The faith based religions originating in the Middle East have hijacked God and personalized him...they made religion competitive & predatory...they claimed they had the 'Only path' to God...You follow Jesus or u r doomed ot hell...Islam is the perfect religion and only Mohammad's ummat will go to heaven...now this is what messed up mans quest for God...if u think about it this is not about God at all..its about aggressive behaviour..claims to hv the answers to an abstract concept of God, divinity..this is what messed up the world...now, Christianity is not a nuisance any more..that has been paid put by reformation in Europe...Islam is the only one right now, and it is past is sell by date as well...its only a matter of time that radical Islam will be totally neutralized and Islam wil be reduced to what Christianity is today...mullahs wont be cutting ice no more....as far as ur question of what religion you should follow..it definitely has to be the Realization based spirituality of Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Shinto or even the abstract Islamic disciplines of Sufism or spiritual Christianity which emphasises more on self elevation rather than dogma !! wish u a good life as a Hindu Epsilon !

Thanks friends..
Further to add up it is the birth of ours to a mother decides to which religion, color or cast we are goin to be,which in turn is decided by God himself.
We should feel atleast happy now that we are not killing others for food, clothes and shelter which are humans basic needs which is happening in Africa now..
But Iam afraid very soon Humans will fight for that as well and we all would like to die instead of living in this world.

No way to Treat Pakistan
by srinivas r on Jun 15, 2007 04:53 PM  Permalink

The title of this article is misleading . It should be changed . Considering Pakistan's spreading of terrorism no Indian should have an soft corner for Pakistan . Further we are no one to tell any else how to treat a third country .

Pakistan - why are not the citizens thinking?
by vidhi rajkumar on Jun 15, 2007 04:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Both India and Pakistan were created on the same day. In India the mood was freedom from England. In Pakistan the mood was freedom from India. They perceived us as we have preceived the English. Hence the mistrust i guess.
In the quest for Kashmir, both the countries as suffering and loosing out in the race. India due to its size and secular credentials has been able to weather the negatives to a large extent though not fully. But Pakistan has been lagging behind only because of their mistrust, misinformation and religion.
I think Indians have taken democracy for granted. But it is becasue of our freedom of expression we have come so far. I only hope Pakistanis realise that and go all out to win back the freedom they got and rule themselves rather than depend on stooges or proxies of other countries.
It is benefitial to all of us to have a good relationship among all South asian nations. Only that will make the west shiver, and probably thats why they play all the games to keep us apart.

THINK..........ALL.........THINK

Vidhi Rajkumar there is slight discrepancy in your reply, Pakistan did not seek independence from India, before the partition Pakistan did not exist, and since it did not exist it could not have asked for independence.
Pakistan was created as an independent state carved out of India.
Pakistan was born a day before India got Independence.

Mr. Panday, You chose to project the view of the 30% and easily skipped the view of the 70%. So I can just describe it as poverty of mind.

Abdul Rehman, no matter people from all religions do violence no one does it by saying that i am doing this for the following lines written in my religious book, where as the opposite is true, how much u say that its a peaceful reaction, the outcome is different, its like this IF the output is wrong than the input has to be wrong, u just cant say that the input was right and output was wrong was an exception.

You see Rehman this is your problem..u only want to rectify non Muslims, u want to build bridges and make others understand about Islam...no one gives a rats ass if 30% of American Muslims think suicide is justified for Islam..now u will say this is not supported by Islam its misinterpretation blah blah..so why doesnt someone go and educate them??? Even Iqbal thought breaking idols was a great Islamic duty..so why u want to preach otherwise Rehman sahab??

Re: Now way to Treat Pakistan

I trust that U.S policy is not heading in the direction pointed out in this article. A war against Iran is going to have the effect of polarising both, the Christian and the Islamic worlds.

All that apart from the fact that thrusting Pakistan into the frontline is likely to result in a collapse of authority there. At a time when Pakistan is torn between the forces of modernisation and fundamentalism, a war-like situation coukd preciptate a civil war there. In the long run, its going to cause inestimale damage to Pakistan itself.

And how the whole thing will affect India is impossible to predict. Either way, it can't be for the better.

US doesnt need to do war against Iran. They just need to look in the other side and allow Israel to attack the nuclear facilities of Iran..Stupid India refused in 74 when Israel said that it was ready to take out Paks nuclear research facilities. All it needed was allow them fueling and take off facility from India. Look what our laid back atttiude is causing us now.

I still think India/Israel/US should have a deal to take out Paks nuclear establishment. The risk is worth the rewards
