it's terrible news 4 those students who have already dropped the second year after class 12th some have not joined other institutions to try 4 iit-jee for a 3rd chance it's incorrect to apply these rules from jee-2006 without prior information abt reducing the no of attempts it'll be nice if these rules start functioning from jee-2007
What is the motive behind this move ? If it's to bring down the trauma or burden on students vying for few coveted seats, then the move have failed. It'll still be there. Why is it that we in India feel so pressed to reform something which is already the most superlative example of excellence india produced in post-colonial era. Except the move of 60% board exam limit , all other moves seems like "Wrong Solutions to wrong Problems".Why should the teething competetion for IIT's be a problem to anyone. If something is Good, there's bound to be more competetion.Short Right Ups are bound to push the JEE preparation through Rote ,which'll be a very Big expense on the Quality of JEE. It's once again a move from dyed-in-wool socialists who weren't at ease with IIT's achieving a hallowed status in india and abroad, with only a "select" few getting in.They want to make it a social movement.Though their "Good" intentions are not be questioned but their solution to the problem is offcorse highly debatable.Instead of focussing on decreasing the level of competence required , the move should have aimed at enable more and more to achieve the that competence to compete at that level.

Well said!!! I m XII passed student who was not selected due to reasons that were inevitable. I strongly feel i have a good chance of gettin selected with a good rank.... But the papers say that the norms will be reviewed .... does that mean the no. of attempts will be reduced to just 1 ???
I dont think this rule will let IITs intake better students than before. Giving only 2 chances to a person who wants to realise this dream is not good. There are guys out there who wants to work as hard as possible to get into IIT and when someone steps into ur goal ,thats very sad , I must say. During those 3 hours of JEE exam, anything can hamper ur performnace. that doesnt mean that u are not intelligent enough to beat other selected students. May be next time one may not repaet the mistake and get selected. I think govn should rethink over this rule
The changes introduced in the IIT-JEE will really prove detrimental to our younger generation. As the standard of different schools varies widely , hence limiting students to just two chances is really unjustifiable. Can you really compare a metro based elite School with a secondary school in rural areas of UP , Bihar or even so called developed Southern States. Suppose one does not get a stream of one's choice , then preventing one to appear for subsequent chances too does not hold good. However change in question papers is a welcome move. Unrealistic and artificial tricky questions had made IIT - JEE a game of trick rather than competence. Hope, HRD Ministry will reconsider its decision to remove the anomalies.

i doubt you are an iitian seeing the language that you use and ranking iit as the best engineering institute of the WORLD.
I myself being an IIT Alumni, strongly feel that the eligibility bar for an IIT Aspirant with minimum 60% marks in XIIth standard and maximum two attempts are not correct. IIT JEE Exam itself is considered one of the toughest competitive exam in India and as per the new format, many a meritorious IIT Aspirants who might not been able to fare better in XIIth Exam as well as in two max. attempts allowable for IIT JEE due to many unforseen reasons will be barred from their good aspiration of becoming aproud product of IIT, the best Engineering Institute of India as well as on the earth. Considering the standard of the IIT JEE Examination and unique selection criteria, these two eligibility criteria for an IIT JEE Aspirant should not be in place. I sincerely request the IIT JEE Authorities and Board Members of all the IITs to give a thought on my suggestion, since I strongly believe it may be helpful to some exceptionally odd talented IIT aspirant. With my sincere regards,
There are several severe drawbacks in this new system of JEE. Some of them are: 1. It has brought down the number of attempts to two but what about the thousands of students who have joined expensive coachings to get into the IITs. 2. What about the students who were selected in some other good engineering college but left the admission to give one more attempt at IITJEE. 3. There are many students who though are not very bright, still they clear JEE due to their hard work for 2-3 years. Don't these students have the right to improve their lives by getting into IITs?
I think the present pattern should be implemented from JEE 07 so that the students who have dreams to make it big, should be given atleast a Last chance.
