NUCLEAR AGREEMENT BETWEEN INDIA - USA
by ravindran p p on Jul 17, 2008 05:28 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The Indian citizens are not at all kept informed about the pros & cons of the proposed Nuclear Agreement with USA by the media. As a patriot I wish to firmly express the proposed Nuclear Agreement is detremental to India's interest. The argument in favour of the Nuclear Agreement is that we need Nuclear power production to be increased to meet the demand. Note, India produce 66% by thermal power, 26% by hydel power & 3% by Nuclear Power. If this 3% to be increased to 6%, India needs additinal Rs. 50,000/- crores. It will be wise to increase other 2 modes of of power production than expensive & dangerous nuclear power, is not ? By pledging to USA our 14 nuclear plants and production will be under their scanner and our sovereinty & independence are pledged. India will never have freedom for nuclear test.

Please try to understand the fundamenal truth goerning this agreement and put up a public debate before we sign this agreement.

RAVINDRAN

Mr Ravidran
You have forgotten that thermal power is generated from fossil fuels which is depleting.
even though nuclear is 3% is better option.
i fully support the government in this aspect as 50% of indians are not educated enough to understand the details of the deal.

Adithya - do u really think the issue is about energy? I am sorry but you have misunderstood the whole problem. I have yet to meet an Indian who disagrees with the need to get MORE energy resources. The problem is that the price being asked by the Americans is to take complete charge of India's foreign policy. Which means that next time AMERICA decides to invade a country like IRAQ , it could well force India to supply troops or back ups - Now what if we don't - well it will do exactly the same as it is doing NOW.... They will threaten to take away the DEAL from us as they are doing now.. This is the issue - an issue of sovereignty.

Lets say I had told you in 1995 that you cannot upgrade your computer. And if you do I will take away the electric supply to your house.. And you agreed to it... NOW you can see how in 2008 you would be stuck with WINDOWS 95 while the world may have moved on to WINDOWS VISTA or XP..

That is another pre-condition in the agreement. That India cannot do nuclear tests to keep itself updated. Now the reason for that is that our dependence on the USA will increase as we get deeper in the hole.

SO please make the effort of knowing what exactly is the problem. We are all Indians and we all have the same love for our country.

Would you want your kids to grow up under an American flag? That is the issue...

Amol, your Windows analogy does not make sense. People like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs et al of the world depend on the army of Indian software writers, designers, architects in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata etc for the next generation of Windows for an unrelentingly wired-up world.

But the houses of Wipro, Infosys and so forth hiring all these clever software minds, also need electricity. The Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, of the world will see to it that Narayana Murthy, Azim Premji and all their cohorts of the new India's software industry don't run out of electricity.

That's right, there's two-way traffic, get used to it.
Stop trying to cast the wool over people's eyes.

Enough of debating.
Until the courage shown by former PM Narasimha Rao to unleash the Real India (I think he is the most courageous and far-sighted PM India has ever had), all India did was debate whether to lean to Russians or Americans and ended up getting no where. Poverty, underdevelopment and worst - underachievement was rife through those years.
We debated and we debated for 43 long years until Mr Rao came on the scene and courageously led a minority Congress government on the path to reform and change. Even BJP-led government understood this.
The post Narasimha Rao India is a brave and more decisive India that is now certain of what has to be done, this includes securing energy for its enormous economic growth.
India will be the engine of the world - more than China, so get used to it.
More countries will put their bets on India than China, if only Indian leaders can show decisiveness in some common but crucial issues for its economic growth. National leaders should stand for national issues, they should not be hijacked by narrow regional and insular parties and their leaders who don't share in wider national matters.
