If anyone dont know the answers then it is useless to put forth your views on this topic in this forum. we can not blame anybody (either left, congress or bjp for their support of opposition) If there is any link where I can find out the answers do let m

I know this is not regarding bombs and all.. it is civilian deal.. but point is if we conduct any nuclear test in future whether they (NSG) will stop our fuel supply or not and yes, this deal is not US specific but still if there is any clause that NSG will stop the supply then ??? Its not guess work but these are real questions.
Tell me in details if you know why BJP and left are opposing this deal? What are their concerns? can you throw some light on this??

But this wasnt ur question?
Inspite of the deal, today we are still testing N-Weapons..... Its altogether different tech., and even with the help of byproduct u cant test OR Make N-Bomb..... Byproduct has to be degenerated.
why BJP is against.....Its a political matter? No one can defy the gravity of their mind.

Ravan Raj : U r diverting total attention of the N-Deal.....Only a jehadi can think of Nuclear Bomb relating to everything, let it be tomato..... We dont need such time consuming and costly tech to make N=Weapon...Anyways we are making N-Weapons without this deal too...so this is purely all abt energy, now dont try to divert the attention...

Very first thing take into consideration of long term benefits. After some days somehow the existence source of energy being exhaustible is going to b scare...that time we will be completely relying of this kind of sources... that what will we do?? again..as some one correctly said Its not only India & USA are signing the deal..there are other developed nations also...and why u are not considering the relation which will improved with such strong nation like USA. On and all..one thing is clear..India will definetly benfit by this..deal

1) As a sovereign nation we can 2) It is for the individual countries (Suppliers ) to decide individually. US can stop or will stop as it s legislation says so. France and Britain may not as they are themselves always conducting tests. 3)Reprocessing spent fuel is allowed but we would be subject to inspection. 4)What is the assurance of tomorrow? 5)We are a sovereign nation and can continue with our researches for power. 6)Power is much needed for a developing nation like ours. It is interlinked. 7)No the treaty is for fuel supply only and not for technology transfer. 8)All that we mark as civilian. 9)Most are. Except one or two which are only civil. So a lot of separation activities have to be done on many. 10)Sharing details with 'rogue' nations will not be allowed. 11) Hyde Act is a US legislation. As they are supplying something out of their country they will come under their law. 8)McCain has to continue with Bush's policies. Obama is for a good relationship with india but can change. Generally foreign policy cannot be changed. Ex. BJP and Congress act same when it comes to foreign policy. Voting not known it is safe to assume that Obama as a senator has not voted for this as the legislation has not reached the senate yet.

once the document with IAEA is done, India is not even dependant on the US (whether bush sign it before he leaves or not)... we can get fuel from Russia or France or whoever... this is not any agreement between just India & USA

Isn't it obvious that IAEA does what the US tells it to do, and Russia, France etc. do the IAEA's bidding. In other words, the US enacts the whole damn thing. So where is the question of independence ?

1. yes we will be able to, but we have to give the list of distinctive Military and civilian facilities to the Board. 2. No clause. The whole deal only speaks of Civilian facilities. The deal doesnt speak of Military facilities. It just says whatever material given for Civilian must not be used for Military facilities. 3. thats the Catch. U235 if iam not wrong is abundant with US. this fuel is used for atom Bomb. and this is used in Civilian Nuclear Facilities. The used up Fuel gets converted into U238. This is used for Hydrogen bomb which is 1000 times bigger than the Atom Bomb. The U235 to U238 conversion has to be done only in the Nuclear Reactors. So the energy generated in Nuclear reactors goes waste, so Us will be setting up Reactors in India, so that we can use the power generated by the energy, and We have to give the enriched(U238) Back to them. So that they get enrichment easily. We will have to pay for U235, and the residual which is U238 has to be returned to them. 4. the deal allows us to stock supply from the member countries, so that the fuel supplies will not be stopped. 5. thats not specified. 6. at present its not interlinked. 7. yes we will be having only old technology. I feel US is upgrading their Facility and their Older versions will be sent to India. 8. All civilian, and military list has to be made and given. we are any day open for any type of Inspection. They will have a Office here In New delhi, and some where in south too. .. to be contin

12) Whether Obama or McCain support this deal? if one of them becomes next US president then are they interested in this deal (what is their history of voting on this deal)
Obama opposes it, McCain supports it. That is why deal is getting pushed so that Bush can get it approved atleast through NSG using USA's influence.

A7. It is in a business company's interest to have latest technology to maximise profits. You can take example of cars. Do you think best cars are not coming in India? A8. 14 out of 21 existing. A9. Everyone was interconnected. Now they've been separated. A10. We donot need to share our research with other nations, unless it makes a business sense. A11. Hyde act is nuclear deal seen in-house in US. 123 agreement that is between India and US is derived from Hyde act. But Hyde act technically is not binding on India. A12. Congress government is honoring self-ban imposed by NDA government after nuclear tests. Governments come and go, they've to honor the deals that contries do with each other. Otherwise, your country's reputation and hence future partnerships and business deals go for a toss.

7) Can we have new technology or we will be using old type of technologies which are dumped elsewhere?
India is already part of ongoing Fusion club which is next generation of energy source. Technology wise India has wide market ranging from countries USA, UK, France, Germany, Russia, China, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Japan to get technology from. If one nation provides old technology, India can always approach another nation which it deems fit.
8) How many of our nuclear establishments will be open to IAEA inspection?
All Civil nuclear establishments.
9) How many of our military and civil nuclear establishments are inter-connected or all are separated
At present there is no separation and moving forward there has to be separation made. Only Civil reactors are coming under inspection and safety umbrella, military reactors will not be touched by IAEA.
10) Can we carry on our own research in this area or we have to share the details with other countries?
What do you by share the details?
11) What exactly is Hyde act? and how it can affect us positively or negatively?
Hyde act will only ne appliable while negotiating with America, while with NSG Agreement 123 is governing text. So if Hyde Act obstructs India, India can reach to another nation such as Russia.
12) Whether Obama or McCain support this deal? if one of them becomes next US president then are they interested in this deal (what is their history of voting on this deal)

1) Can we be able to test nuclear bombs even after this deal with US?
At present what is more needed electricity or Nuclear Test. Indian scientists have already stated the we have ample of statistics to carry our Nuclear technology indigenously but we do not have fuel to feed the reactors. So what do we about this? Without fuel, you can not even conduct tests!
2) If we can test then is there any clause which says that fuel supply will be stopped?
Yes, they are interlinked as per Hyde Act, but why is Nuclear Test needed when we have enough statistics to carry on Nuclear on our own!
3) what about spent fuel? Can we be able to reprocess it or not?
4) What is the assurance of fuel supply?
NSG is assuring the fuel supply till India sticks to the signed agreement.
5) Can we continue with our own thorium based research (fast breeding?)
Yes, it is entirely decoupled.
6) Can our foreign policy be independent of fuel and technology supply for our reactors? or it is interlinked?
Well the pact does put barriers on foreign policy.
7) Can we have new technology or we will be using old type of technologies which are dumped elsewhere?

A1. Yes we can test nuclear bombs if the security of the country demands so. A2. After the test, the things will depend on how other nations would take our test. If they understand that it was geniune compulsion due to India's security scenario in neighborhood became worse, the deal would continue. Otherwise, the deal is broken. All this would depend on how good India is in diplomacy. My understanding is that even if India tests, it would be in US (and other countries interest) to continue nuclear business with India (it involves billions of dollars!). Hence India can escape from the blame of being un-reliable nation. Without deal also, we've self-imposed ban on nuclear tests. Backtracking from our own words, in my opinion, is as bad as back tracking from the expectations of a deal. A3. Reprocessing is allowed of the spent fuel. This reprocessed material, however, cannot be used for making bombs. A4. All nuclear reactors are guaranteed life-time supply in reserves even if the nuclear deal is broken. The broken deal will affect only new reactors. India has right to collect strategic reserve of the fuels for existing reactors. It is a learning from Tarapur nuclear reactor incedence. Good that India did not compromise on this. A5. Yes. No one is stopping us! A6. Every policy is interlinked. Recent eurocopter, 126-fighter jets deal is example where french and us presidents personally took interest. 'Independent foreign policy' is a misonomer, looks politically good.
