while the Congress Party are as opporunistic as all our political parties from the far left to the far right, the commies are a poor lot. they are a bunch of jokers who are trying to live in a bygone era and live through extortion. Its time they were obliterated from our political scene. The only exception being Brinda Karat. The P.M is right in going ahead. We need Nuclear Power amongst other things. Its time that the Indian voters begin to understand the many faces of these two bit commies.

Philo wants India to follow Canada

Philo...

Are you retarded.

Did you ever ask a canadian how much he/she pay in taxes ?
It is ~50% of their salary.

Have you ever asked them about the wait time they have for medical procedures ?

A close friend of mine said that there is a "Day and Night" difference between the health care standard in the US and Canada. He has two babies. One delivered in Canada and the other in US.

And a system run by the government. By these politicians. I can only imagine the correption that it will bring along with it.

After 60 years on r@ping the country, how can we again turn back to these same spineless and shameless politicians to address these challenges.

Wake up guys.

Power and Rural India
by shailendra lande on Jul 07, 2008 09:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

MMS should go ahead with this deal. We, farmers, are facing acute power shortage nearly 12 hours daily in rural areas. What will be the situation after 2 years when industrialization is rapidly increasing, power needs of people are increasing, green house gases are increasing, biofuel is cheap but we cannot afford it at the cost of agriculture produce like maize, soybean etc. Farmers will switchover to these crops which may cause shortage of food grains. If this trend continue, we will become a "chronic" importer of food grains in the coming years.
As far as inflation is concerned, it hurts the urban society but benefits the farmers. Prices of agriculture produce increases during MMS's period. We never made money in the past what we making now. Government should continue the subsidy on urea, DAP, seeds, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and diesel for farmers. Then only the situation of farmers will improve. Inflation in food grains should be between 5% to 8% for the betterment of farmers. Please don't make shout on inflation, lets farmers be benefitted. This government is really doing good things for the farmers.
Religious riots never happened in Rural India except caste base riots. One can learn this from poor rural India. We have nothing to do with muslim bashing, we are living with each other in harmony from centuries that too with out riots.

As pm says opposition should not advice him on N deal and economy - since he single handedly raised the inflation to 11.3%.
BJP should just declare if the treaty goes through - the first thing they will do if elected is Pokhran-III.
end of discussion. Period.

BJP is not so foolish. If they do come to power before the deal is closed, they will hold up the deal, try to get better terms to take credit for a better deal, get rejected and then go back asking for the same terms. They will only conduct another test if it improves our nuclear capabilities. Not because of your whims.

Why talk of hypothetical possibilities - if BJP comes to power before the deal is closed? That's a virtual certainty. It is also a certainty that BJP is poised to sit down in the opposition benches again during the next Lok Sabha.

There was no NSG before Pokhran II. NSG was constituted by the US to contain India's nuclear march forward. So from 2000, we could not get spares and fuel even from our friends - Russia and France, because of NSG restrictions.

So if BJP to prove that is macho conducts another test, it will herald the death bell of our nuclear industry.

Besides BJP talks and rarely acts. In the opposition, senile Advani talked of "hot pursuit into Pakistani terrorists" As Home Minister and Dy Minister of the NDA tenure of 6 years, he not once put this claim into action. So any talk of another nuclear test is for consumption of their kickerwallah cadres

Its better to see the repurcusion of Hyde 123 act now then 15 years later, when part of the economy depends on this power. It would be completely impossible to do Pokhran III when it is most needed - since there would be 1000s of job depending on this new infrastructure. So if PM says that there is no adverse effect of our doing the Tests, then let his statement be tested now - and avoid being a handicapt later on. And that is national interest. This govt behaves like there is no tomorrow. First they did not have courage to do a test after 1974, and critisized the BJP govt for doing Pokhran II. And now wants to behave like there is no torrow? why they object to debate on this deal in parlament? Is it democracy ? BJP would and must do the test now. Its not a whim - its national interest for the future.

volunteer your back yard for the N-waste...
by Nimesh Dikshit on Jul 07, 2008 08:54 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

All those who support the N-DEAL must offer their back yard for the Nuclear waste that it might generate. Why US froze the nuclear plants despite so much of free land. US has so much of land that they can migrate people of one state and use that entire state as N-dump. But they can not do that. Scientists have not been able to find the solution to N-waste in last 40 years. and since there is none. Unless they choose to dump it on Moon or Mars? Until then please offer your backyards as the nuclear waste dumping ground.

Nimesh. Don't dramatize. The current share of nuclear power to total power generation is a measly 3%. After factoring the deal, it is expected to command 6% that too by only 2020.

The way you project is that from 3% India will rely on nuclear power and that there would be a mushrooming of nuclear plants in all nick and corner of the country!

This % figure is very confusing. N power will be certian percentage which is high at 2020 but then the overpower genretaion assumptoin at that time is also very high. WHich we may or may not get by other sources such as coal, hydo but it gurentee to get by N power

Again, Go Solar for household and private vehicles usage. Which is more than 20% of the current usage. So far as my qualifications are concerned, i have watched the debates done by many scientists and also being a followers of The Mother ( Podincherry ) who has predicted Solar power as the future source of energy back in sixties, I believe India should follow that path. Auroville, once again is the living proof of how the whole town runs off of solar. If one town can run off of solar 180000 towns can also run off of solar. and so are cities....

Please America has found their dumping gound and now will be able to build 100 persent nuclear power plants unworried about waste because it is being Dump(euphemism reprocessed) in India.

Nimesh,

The U.S. stores its nuclear waste in secure underground facilities for the most part. Yes, there is the question of how to store it in the long term, but we will pollute our air and backyards with carbon emissions from coal and gas long before we run out of space to store nuclear waste. So, let's solve one problem at a time and not overstate the issue.

Moreover, what are the qualifications that enable you to hand down a judgement about the capabilities of science and technology and what they can and cannot achieve in terms of finding solutions to nuclear waste?

Thourgh I am supporter of N-Deal. But on this waste management, get ur facts right. Nature knows who to take care of carbon waste. So todays polution can be contain if we stop poluting.
But nature do not know how to take care of nuclear waste. So one need big containser to put wste underground. It is bit risky thing for future genretauions.

"Today's pollution can be contained if we stop polluting."

And how do we stop polluting?

You have missed my point. My point is that given India's appetite for power and economic growth required to pull its people out of poverty, the additional energy required would have to come from four sources: coal, oil/gas, nuclear, renewable. Renewable is the cleanest, but still years away from being viable. Coal and oil/gas are polluting, and increasing the number of thermal power plants in India will only pollute the environment even more. Nuclear power is the only short-term solution we have that can prevent further pollution in the short run. Yes, we have to build facilities to house nuclear waste, but that's still preferrable to burning more coal/oil and emitting carbon in the air. Unless of course, you have some trick up your sleeve to dispose of millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

And no, nature does not absorb CO2 quickly.

Dr Man Mohan Singh commands respect from all even from the opposition for his coolness, knowledge and silence. However, Dr Singh should not forget that he heads a democratic Govt. where both his party and the opposition, however weak it may be, form the Govt. His utterances in First Person Singular "I" doesn't befit him and it is very unfortunate when he says Opposition 'need not give any advice' on the issue (Nuclear Deal). Does it mean that when he and his party members enjoy the light and AC etc generated by nuclear power the rest of the country sit in darkness?? Dear Pm, we hold you with respect, and please ask some body in your party or in PMO to give a list of benefits we shall derive by this deal! We too are inhabitants of this country and love her too as you do.

Kumarendra,

Manmohan didn't ask your permission or explain to you why he needed to introduce liberal reforms in 1991 when India's foreign reserves were depleted. And today, we enjoy the benefits of those policies. Desperate circumstances (India's energy deficit) require extraordinary measures (risking loss of political power to ensure energy security).

Moreover, the benefits of this deal are self-explanatory. The cost-benefit analysis is not so obvious. However, with the amount of information and opinion pieces out there on the matter, you have enough information to make your own decision.

Dear Mr Abhisek Nair
Do you remember a character called Harshad Mehta? You will regret when your BARC, NFC, AMD and TIFR close down. Prof H.N. Sethna and Prof P.K. Iyengar, the former chairmen of Atomic Enegy Commission, are opposed to it. Did the PM try to know why? Have you read the article of Justice Krishna Iyer in The Hindu July 04, 2008. Do you know the difficulties of Nuclear waste disposal? You can't afford to lose your sovereignty just for a few kilowatts of nuclear power? Will you? Dear Nair, many information, the uncomfortable ones, is kept secret. Otherwise why can't they come out to convince the people than blaming one political party or the other? Power-sharing, it appears to me, is more important than knowledge-share.
