"Today's pollution can be contained if we stop polluting."
And how do we stop polluting?
You have missed my point. My point is that given India's appetite for power and economic growth required to pull its people out of poverty, the additional energy required would have to come from four sources: coal, oil/gas, nuclear, renewable. Renewable is the cleanest, but still years away from being viable. Coal and oil/gas are polluting, and increasing the number of thermal power plants in India will only pollute the environment even more. Nuclear power is the only short-term solution we have that can prevent further pollution in the short run. Yes, we have to build facilities to house nuclear waste, but that's still preferrable to burning more coal/oil and emitting carbon in the air. Unless of course, you have some trick up your sleeve to dispose of millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
