the culprits shouid be severly punished as all of them have been photographed and to set an example to others they should be hanged in public so as to yeach oters a lesson. WHAT A TRAGEDY TO EVEN THINK OF. DONT THESE JOKERS HAVE SISTERS WHO CAN ALSO BE ION THE SITUATION AS THESE TWO INNOCENT GIRLS WERE.
In general we are hypocrates. Preaching one set of values and practising another. Last year there was a sting operation in Pentaluma county California. Out of 30 people caught on camera for soliciting sex with underage girls, 9 were Indians. There were latinos and Cubans too and only 2 whites. To coumpond the matters Indian consulate made casual remarks like the Mumbai police. We preach respect for women and murder them in the womb. We will not let pre-marital sex between consenting adults and yet highest number of underage girls are traded in south asia for commercial sex. Most people lose their virginity in brothels but they will not let couples even sit together holding hands in a park.
Moreover concept of western women being totally loose is wrong. Women and men here have very respectful relationships. The may not live the "saat janam tak saath" concept, but they do have very descipleaned behavior in public which is to say consenting adults do what they want but people will not force themselves on a girl even in a sex club. Yes there are sex crimes but the are not underreported as in India due to stigma and there are harsh punishments. Moreover unlike perception in India fun here means not just sex. Young people go skiing, camping, trecking, sledging or even play pool. All in all very healthy as compared to India. India needs to do serious rethinking on its problems and not blame the west. Anyone who lives here knows that. Incidences like Mumbai, Pune, Patna, Kochi, Guwa
For all those outsiders in rediff and also ppl with certain religious beliefs(who are antinationals), India has evolved whenever there is a social discord, We could be naive, illiterate, etc but atleast we dont abuse women by isolating them socially and making a veiled slave out of them(Middl Eastern) OR abusing/exploiting them sxualy to such an extent that they end up as a broken family(step dad/mom/child.... phenomenon)(West). India is constantly adjusting itself to newer challenges and we shall overcome! these

Whats wrong with step dad or mom concept? How can it be deemed sexual exploitation? Isnt divorcing and remarrying better than having women being abused in 48% marriages (CNN figures). Women who cannot opt out of such marriages just because socity has attitude like you
While this Mumbai incident is an aberration, generally, one finds more of these cases of eve teasing & molestation in the north. The key reason is the intense segregation of boys and girls in schools and misplaced religious beliefs, that looks down upon a boy talking to a girl with intense suspicion. The net result is when these boys grow up they just do not know how to interact with girls and ladies and the baser style takes over, when there is an oppor- tunity to interact socially. The long term solu- tion is greater education and co-education in schools. Some of the illiterates behave as if there is no tomorrow when they interact with girls and ladies.

But the level of literacy in south is much higher compared to any other region. In Kerala, it is almost 100%. Raise the level of education and allow co-education in schools, you will see a gradual drop. I have lived sufficiently long enough in Delhi, Ranchi, Bombay, Hyderabad and Bangalore to form this opinion based on a close analysis.

Kumar,
You mean no case of molestation is reported in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore ? Pl. give me a break. It's nothing to do with North, South, East, West. It's the common mindset across India.

Really? Have any proof for what you are saying? For starters the "arab origin" is not a correct term when it comes to geneology research!

It also proves that taliban has educated people who can write well and use computers which is against the popular notion that only uneducated and poor people join taliban / jihadi groups.
festivals like New Years day, Independence day etc., They think New Years day is to drink and cat ugly...More than 1 million people gather in NewYork City's time square..Most of the people are drunk and there both women and men almost touching each other, jam packed. Yet there is NOT even ONE incident. Even drunk men behave respectfully towards women. People are singing, kids are also there dancing with cartoon characters..celebreties are there entertaining..City makes tons of money organising this properly..There is police everywhere..yet they keep their distance.. When will Mumbai learn how to celebrate..when will mumbai's people know how to behave..God only knows!

In case Newyork dont have an enough Man power of police, New york people rape the women and then kill also. I agree Mumbai dont have an enough Man Power of Police. It is very hard to control uneducated people just like Truck drivers and labors in america. May be you dont know Newyork is very dangerous city.

James, The population of Mumbai is 13 million if you add the metropolis suburbs it is approx 19 million thats close to NewYork population, Now compare the crime rate including rape, assault, murders etc in NewYork and compare that with Mumbai, You will be surprised, besides NewYork has the most sophisticated law and order and the budget is several million dollars more than that of Mumbai, In short although the incident was terrible, Mumbai fairs far better than NewYork

Amit,
Of course law and order is in dire straits all over India. But, there's a question of mindset in place too. I have met, heard, and read several people making comments "The girls were wearing revealing dress, so you know..." Now, that's a mindset. Basically, if a girl wears khullam khulla dress, it means FREE FOR ALL. That's a ridiculous logic. We always hear of women getting molested in public transport. So, like I said in a different post, we need severe punishment for such acts to stop this atrocity.

In most cases in India acts do not get reported due to stigma. Even in this case victim refused to lodge complaint. There are women who live the misery of eve teasers day after day on Borivali locals but do nothing. Moreover even police is reluctant to lodge complaints unliess some social organization or press intervenes. If this pathetic situation was not there, reported sex crime in India would be very high

you're absolutely right. Indians are sex bhooka. Ladki dekha nahi ki mooh se lal tapakney lagta hain. And then you'll find some jokers saying : Girls wearing sexy clothes, so... ais to hona hi tha. Abey Kambaktho, apna thadkipan ko justify maat karo.

Its nothing to do with assumption that white drunk man respect women more than an indian. Its all due to our conservative society. How many times you have seen group of 4 guys and 4 girls together for a celebration or party. When you have a group of only man...they simply can't bear the idea of someone else having a women with them and start what they think is fun for them. Infact it is frustration...Reason nothing like this happen in western countries is because of equal ratio of man and women in party revellers. Guess that's why night clubs in delhi only allows couples or groups with significant number of girls.

You feel that with several thousand people gathering in a small place, there will be no chemistry? Men and women will meet and mate in such places. Men and women will become naughty, but in such places the women allow such things to happen without creating a fuss. Some may object and people stop troubling them immediately. Others enjoy this ! So who's to blame?
