Education has eroded!
by Galaxy Star on Jul 03, 2007 11:06 PM  Permalink

The politics are entirely responsible for such chaos not only in Mumbai but also in entire country!
It is the political circle who bring all favourable policies and actions towards corrupt and vested interests openly taking advantage of prevalent large scale illiteracy giving rise to ignorance which itself catalyses the terrorism!
Any wrong can be done and escaped without any punitive action for a consideration taking advantage of prevalent nasty judiciary!
The education system too have eroded as the presently graduating persons like I.A.S., I.P.S, and many others like M.B.A.,B.E/. M.B.B.S., and many others as the private corporate houses like L&T., H.D.F.C., ETC., have complained against the diminished qualities of M.B.A., Engineering.,B.Com., etc., to Mumbai University too some time ago!
Nothing works as every one does not work with any responsibility any where! It is every where chaos and mess and people's suffering has gone up like any thing!
The present U.P.A. has to be thrown out if at all the nation has to improve to attain at least the old better nation!
No inspection as the inspecting officials are not aware of what to inspect due to they being enlightened by their subordinates! Inspections at various levels are very essential as preventive action!

Shift the financial capital
by mohan ramakrishnan on Jul 03, 2007 08:30 PM  Permalink

The only solution which comes to my mind at present is to attempt shifting the financial capital from Mumbai to a better place nearby. Same to be done with "Bollywood" infrastructure. This will reduce the pressure on Mumbai and enable the administration to attend to the pressing infrastructure problems in an appropriate manner.

Else, how do you think the problem can be taken care of? Blaming the administration without creating enabling conditions do not help anyone.

Mumbai flood
by Hariharan shankaran on Jul 03, 2007 08:01 PM  Permalink

During the previous Mumbai flood my wife was in a three tire compartment of train originated from Secondarabad to Mumbai. The train was literally abandoned by the engine driver after switching off the engine which was stopped near Panvel. There was no attempt from the nearby Station Master to make some rescue operation of the stranded passengers who were new to the place. My wife wrote the full address on the bags, her ultimate thought that the bags will give a clue of her end. An ordeal for more than 30 hours there in that place. Leave alone the Mumbai Municipalities what about the might Railway system in such a situation. She managed to escape the death on that day.

Mumbai Woes
by Cyril Esteves on Jul 03, 2007 07:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

All we need is a very strong Political Will to weed out corruption, make the persons who are responsible for carrying out civic works accountable for what they are doing coupled with a total change of mindset of the general public to work in tandem with the administration for a better MUMBAI. If the government wants, it can and, has shown in a few instances in the past it's ability to get things done but Leadership is very much in abeyance

I agree but this isnt gonna take place on by writing blogs on rediff space or anywhere else, we need totake initiatives to deal with corrupt polityicians and more so over withthe corrupt political environment of our country. We need to use our voting right in the best possible manner to support parties which may have lesser number of jail goers in their rank.

Bombays infrastructure and citizens's problems
by Neetiyath Mohan on Jul 03, 2007 07:46 PM  Permalink

First of all we should understand that Mumbais' geographical location and surroundings. It's like an island and during "high tide", water comes inside and if it happens during heavy rain period, it makes it difficult to pump out the water. These things were happening in the past too -- say for the last many many years and those time "media' was not very active or equipped to cover the happenings as of today. Saying that, it does'nt mean that we have to sit and watch, every year municipality tries their best and comes up with new plans/ideas,but is not able to cope up with times/requirement. Nevertheless, I believe that the development plans being undertaken by the authorities, will bring results after 2-3years. Being a crowded city, filled to its neck, its difficult to execute the difficult jobs as scheduled, but time will show the result and be optimistic about the results. Let's all support the administrators and sometime throw few good words also for the massive and diffcult works being done by them. If we talk about the inflaw, it becomes a "political issue", so let us not discuss it, but be co-operative in their good thinking and plans for a better Mumbai in the years to come.
Mohan, Pune

Present politicians should be blamed
by Carti Rengasamy on Jul 03, 2007 07:38 PM  Permalink

It is the responsibility of the present Maharashtra government. The allotted money is not spent on water drainage system. Foreign experts should be brought for the immediate rectifiction of drainage system in Mumbai.

Who can beat our Politicians?
by Blaster on Jul 03, 2007 07:33 PM  Permalink

No one can beat our Politician in talking and making promise. Mumbai flooding issue was discussed only after flooding and things are unchanged after that. Politicians are only focussed on dividing people by religion and caste. After Tsunami a advanced(advanced than Japanese) warning system was promised but still nothing is been done. They would wait for another Tsunami. Human life has no value in India. See western countries they learn things and keep improving. A have long term plan for future and always improve things.

Worse, if not same apathy in Delhi
by v chandrasekaran on Jul 03, 2007 07:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Let not Mumbaits feel that they are alone in the predicament. See what Delhi CM had said just a few months ago. She said that thousands of crores allocated and spent on Yamuna Action Plan has been wasted. Delhi Govt., directly under Union Home Ministry thro' the office of Lt. Governor, and the Union Govt. itself, were party to the waste of few thousands of crores. Congress is the ruling party for the last nearly 10 years! The Yamuna is stinking, and it is getting worse.

Well, the Yamuna is going to vanish in a short period from now. And inadvertently, THE TAJ.
Well, that is what the Congress wants because they want to rename TAJ MAJAL as SONIA MAHAL & RASHTRAPATI BHAVAN as PATIL BHAVAN or maybe, DAWOOD BHAVAN.

Of course Mumbai can cope
by Miharika on Jul 03, 2007 07:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The Govt. should make Rain Water Harvesting compulsory for all buildings, simultaneously giving tax breaks to RWH equipment manufacturers so as to make this affordable to all. This will greatly alleviate flooding as well as water shortage during dry season. Stringent penal action along with exemplary punitive fines must be levied on shoddy infrastructure contractors along with the bureaucrats and politicians who sanctioned the tender / contract. Then only can we expect proper infrastructure work that does not collapse from year to year. The High Court must take suo moto cognisance of the criminal negligence of the authorities and contractors. We the public must also be civic minded and not contribute to choking the drains with non degradable garbage. Superstars like Shahrukh,Amitabh ought to act in free commercials spreading this message.
