Of course Mumbai can cope
by Miharika on Jul 03, 2007 07:09 PM

The Govt. should make Rain Water Harvesting compulsory for all buildings, simultaneously giving tax breaks to RWH equipment manufacturers so as to make this affordable to all. This will greatly alleviate flooding as well as water shortage during dry season. Stringent penal action along with exemplary punitive fines must be levied on shoddy infrastructure contractors along with the bureaucrats and politicians who sanctioned the tender / contract. Then only can we expect proper infrastructure work that does not collapse from year to year. The High Court must take suo moto cognisance of the criminal negligence of the authorities and contractors. We the public must also be civic minded and not contribute to choking the drains with non degradable garbage. Superstars like Shahrukh,Amitabh ought to act in free commercials spreading this message.
