I am also a Tamil and I disagree with the observations of S Ragunathan. Both Tamils and Kannadigas are very tolerant people. (Remember MGR, a malayalee could become CM, Rajanikanth, practically a Kannadiga, is a superstar there and could someday become CM. Similarly, Masthi Venkatesha Iyengar and TP Kailasam, renowned Kannada authors, Ramesh Arvind, popular actor, are all Tamils). The fact is the people are mostly tolerant and friendly. It is a small group of rabble-rousers who vitiate the atmosphere by fueling dormant linguistic hatred. These small groups (whether they are Tamil or Kannada) should be dealt with firmly so that the people who are basically friendly could live peacefully together.

Another thing. Lets not forget that Tamils and Kannadigas have each contributed to the development of each other's states over centuries. The present order of the Tribunal is a small modification in favor of TN not at all substantially benefiting TN or substantially to the detriment of KRN. As educated people, it is our duty not to get carried away at this juncture and to see that sanity and sobriety prevail.

Remember, we are all Indians.

Mr Ashok,
Who said Masti V Iyengar is a Tamilian? All Iyengars are not Tamilians. There are scores of Iyengars in Hassan, mysore and b'lore who have been in K'taka from 1050 AD. Also, Ramesh is not a Tamilian.

The iyengars of Mysore may choose to call themselves Kannadigas, just like the VeeraShaivas who don't want to be called Hindus. But that doesnot change history of where they originally came from and what their mother tongue is. Instead of acting as a bridge between two communities don't try to play one against the other Mr. Iyengar! Also, Ramesh Arvind has himself claimed to be a Tamil-speaking (read mothertongue)citizen of Karnataka state. Same with Ravichandran and same with Rajasekharan (Nijalingappa's Son-IL). Bottom line is Tamil & Kannadigas -These two communities are like brothers, difficult to tear them apart however hard the Bangarappas and Vatal Nagarajs attempt!

Looking South from Kolkata
by Indra Sengupta on Feb 06, 2007 08:18 AM  Permalink

I had been to all the places in South India, almost.
Chennai, Kanyakumarika, Ooty , Mysore, Palani, Madurai, Rameswaram, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Araku, Bora Guhalu,Bangalore, Palani, Tirupati,Pondicherry.
I liked the people over there very much.
Very dedicated, religious and hard working.
Ladies come out to work in huge numbers, with flowers on their hair.
Ladies also drive two wheelers much more in number compared to Kolkata.
I also like the Telegu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil songs and films very much.
Shame on me I do not understand the languages at all, but I appeciate the tunes of Elliaraja very much.
Not much scope for me to venture further but would love to do so.
My respect to all of you Sir.
Have a nice time.

Vote for the Better India and avoid these confusions
by Nirmal J Kumar on Feb 06, 2007 08:16 AM  Permalink

Vote for the Better India and avoid these confusions.
As of now only 50 - 55% people vote and the party with 1/3rd majority wins it.
That means 1/3*55 = 18.33% of total 1 billion plus india.
18 - 20% decide the fate of india or any state.
Where are those 80%? are they with the govt or against the govt??
Are we not ashamed of this??

VOTE for better india

Managing Natural Resources
by on Feb 06, 2007 08:00 AM  Permalink

It is the Constitutional duty of the elected Governments to prudently manage the available natural resources, be it water or anything else. The concerned Governments should not either politicise or take a linenient view of the subject but try to prudently keep the demand and supply parameters well balanced.

Bangalore being the hub of IT activity and the Technology nucleus of the country should at least now focus with an iron hand on 'Rain water harvesting' (if it rains!) and also solar power. Should be hell bent upon creating awareness on energy conservation elements, rather than go on fighting cases in tribunal. Of course so is Tamil Nadu.

It is the duty of every State within the Union of India to maintain harmony with the neighbours and not demark on language and other issues. All are citizens of the same country.

Who is interested in participating 'Stupid Bandh', which is detriment Constitutional ban on organising 'Band', by stopping our daily activity.

Thanks,

K Jagadish

Hello Friends,

Think from India perspective and not TN, KK etc. When a tribunal working on it for 16 long years, we don;t have any right to comment on it. Let's accept it and move ahead.

By just feeling good that we did all those things some 2000 years back is not going to make us proud and even if we did feel so, we are further ruining things.
Common guys, let's not live by what we did in past. let's do something now that will make us feel proud.
And none of those Kalpana Chawlas and Bhatias did what they did, being in India. they had to go elsewhere to achieve them. hargobind and amartya would not have got the nobel prizes if they had stayed in india. indira nooyi wouldn't be the CEO of a soft drink major should she have stayed in india.
i can't think of a world class product from india other than Titan watches.
all those percentage of indians in multinationals and other major companies seem to be working their best if they are paid in dollars and pounds. if they were so capable of achieving things, why is that they ditched India? i would be a proud indian only if we achieve something outstanding being in India. I can't think of any more than a handful of great contributions from india in the last 100 years.
by just telling that 17% of intel scientists are indians, does it mean the rest are from the moon or planet mars? none of those companies orininated from India. tell me a company from India that is measured at par with Intel.
So pls don't just be proud that we did all those things way back in the 2nd century B.C. or 700A.D. Live the present.
