Aren't women human beings
by Raghavan on Jul 05, 2006 09:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is unfortunate that all the arguments far and against the entry of women into the sabarimal temple are based on wrong and bseless notions and totally irrelevant points and angles.they are beside the points . some claim tha lord Ayyappa himself has set the rules .Others ague tha it is tradition deserving obedience without question etc , etc.
Nobod seem to care whether it is according to vedic ritual rites(Agamas) and whther it is legal , constitutional or discriminatory . and what really is the need for the ban , whther lord Ayyappa is against women- a hater of woman etc etc. When females below the age of 10 and above he age of 50 are allowed , only women in the age group 10 to 50 are barred. Appaantly , it is prima facie , discriminatory. It has no religiou sanciton. Every hindu has theright to question the ban if it is wrong .

Who said to you that it has got no religious sanction?

In temples, especially in temples in Kerala you can enter only after cleansing yourself, at least physically if not mentally. That is the tradition, unlike in churtch or mosque where you can straight away go from your bed! All people, who are born as Hindus (for that matter, everyone borne as a hindu only, although he may later change his religion)support this practice. Prior to going to temple, Hindus do not eat non vegetarian food - it is again another tradition. Going to Sabarimala during 'mandala kalam' is after observing 41 dya vrat which a woman cannot undertake as her menstrual period intervene in between. You must now understand why women are barried in Sabarimala.

Women can enter in other Ayyappa temples!! - even in Kerala
by Subish on Jul 05, 2006 09:25 PM  Permalink

Women can very well enter in other Ayyappa temples in kerala itself, but there is a custom of taking 41 days "vruthu" before entering sabarimala, that is the custom of the temple!. So as per women physical structure because of womens Menstrual Cycle, which happens between the age of 10 and 55 they are unable to take that 41 days continues.. in Kerala its a custom that no women will enter temples at Menstrual periods. So women cant enter. So Jayamala, Please take back your word if you did that un-knowingly.

Rubbish
by Anth on Jul 05, 2006 08:16 PM  Permalink

All these rules were laid down from ages, it is even said that the Lord himself made the rules. Families of lakhs of male devotees, who visit the temple every year, doesn't have a problem, then why should you people who doesn't know anything of Sabarimala comment on the rules set for male and female devotees. Also Jayamal is clearly lying, the door to the inner Sanctum is very small you can't go in without bending, and the IDOL itself is arounf 12 feet away from the door, even she doesn't know how she went that far and touched the idol!!

Yes, they are and the law has to be changed accordingly. But is that done by visiting the place secretively and then claiming the same in public? No, that is no achievement.

Regarding women's entry inside Sabarimala temple
by Diptiman on Jul 05, 2006 08:11 PM  Permalink

If God has created everything, then menstrual cycle in women is a gift from the God that makes His creation perpetuates through ages. Not allowing women in the temple is a total disrespect to God's greatest ever creation who is the mother of us all.
Think over it.

Unnecessary
by Krishnan on Jul 05, 2006 08:00 PM  Permalink

This is unnecessary contervercy from both sides , dunno y she started it and dunno why the temple auths are acting like that, atleast they can act with some maturity and close this case, what has been done cant be undone. There are other more imp things goiing on. i Went to the temple recently and when i came near the deity the person there started pushing me, cause i didnt put any dhakshina, but the person comming behind me was allowed to stay for few secs and pray cause he had put 50 rs as dhakshina , all are behind money , they are worst then the politicians

Sabarimala customs
by Hari on Jul 05, 2006 07:54 PM  Permalink

There is a logical reason for everything happening in the religion. Some of the logic does not apply in modern times and should be changed. It was a custom that Sabarimala temple can be visited by girls before they reach puberty and women after menopause. It was an arduous journey going through jungles before. It used to take several days for reaching the temple. The journey was through treacherous terrain with wild animals. It made perfect sense that if women develop their period during this travel which is highly possible given the hard journey, they cannot complete the task and will be stuck in jungle and . But now number of kilometers to be travelled by walking has decreased drastically with vehicles taking us almost within 5 kms before shrine. People jump on to criticize hinduism at the slightest possible way. Hinduism is not bound by any particular book or leader or god. It is flexible. During different ages, there were different books and different customs. People are given flexibility to choose and follow their own path to liberation. The liberty given has ben wrongly used and is used as is the current controversy.

We had so much descrimination against women here in our culture and peoples who should stand and eductate society regarding these dicriminations are silent and peoples against are speaking. I would love when india will see everyone equal from women to lowest class of society.

Wow! What Indian male attitude
by sandy on Jul 05, 2006 07:45 PM  Permalink

Hi,

I am a hindu woman. I don\\\'t wnat to comment on the event, whether jayamala entered the temple or not. But reading the numerous messages... one thing is very evident... Indian men are still steeped in outdated views and would love to see women put (back?) in their place.

Come on guys, grow up and accept reality, and start supporting your women. Cos believe me, they are the force of tomorrow.
