what sort of god lord aiyappa is ??
by ashish sinha on Jul 06, 2006 08:32 AM  Permalink

being bachelor doesnot mean one hates women .. .. does it ?

if Lord aiyappa hates woman, does he hate his mother also ??? OR does he think that all women enter the shrien to marry him ??

God is never so foolish to set such non-sense rules.

Even I am bachelor, but that makes me to be more in the company of women. I guess Lord Aiyappa will punish all these pundita who let women away from the temple.

Why do they allow old women to come in ??? Even marriage to an older woman can break bachelorhood .. right.... why so much in particulr menstruating woman ???

Is having sex and producing kids the only idea or marriage for Lord Aiyappa ?? Marriage is much more than that which goes beyond the menstrula cycle period.

How foolish these people are...
O Lord aiyappa please punish the people who make such odd laws.

Jai ram ji ki
thanks,
-ashish

This is Modern India ... LOL
by Praveen on Jul 06, 2006 05:59 AM  Permalink

I really cannot believe how foolish people can act in the name of GOD and religious sentiments.
Wake up guys. Spend your energies doing something worthwhile for your nation or for poor people rather than standing in a rally with flags and marching with slogans about why a woman under the age of 50 entered some temple.
The most literate state can produce so many fanatics is unbelievable. And all this bullshit poses serious doubts about India becoming a superpower etc. etc.

Well, just for a moment, take a pause and think about this. How would it matter to India or how would it benefit India if you raised a hue & cry about a woman who claims to enter some temple ?

Oh, it may be a publicity gimmick after all. But the fact that so many men are against a woman entering a temple is beyond belief.
So you talk about age old traditions. There are so many age old traditions which were totally wrong and were devised to make sure that women must be supressed . Take for example "Sati". So, all those who advocate age old traditions should make sure that women in their community burn on a pyre after their husband's death.
Is anybody here so courageous to follow this "age old traditions"?

Women entering temple
by Amit on Jul 06, 2006 04:25 AM  Permalink

Its sad to see people supporting this discrimination, obviously put by priests who managed to stifle the growth of hinduism with such arcane, whimsical laws. Would we justify Devdasi or human sacrifice in name of centuries old tradition?

These are the exact set of malpractices Raja Rammohan Roy tried to weed out, but i guess we are still 200 years behind. Religion is to bring people together, not to discriminate between them. I dont care if this lady is doing this for propoganda or whatever, the stance of this selective entrance is not just. "Dont interfere with religion, our rich and ancient culture" is no justification for keeping your eyes shut and forcing others to do the same.

Lord Ayyppa and his mother
by Prof. R. K. Yadav on Jul 06, 2006 03:41 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I believe that lady Jayamala touvhed the god with her soul.
Also, I was wondering if god Ayyappa was born out of a 10- or 50+ year old lady? If not, then he has already been touched by a woman.

May god give the religious fanatics a bit of light.

Dear Professor,

You dont seem to find anything wrong in a `bahu' sleeping with her `Sasur'. After all it is all banal traditions that forbid such a thing. Bahu is a woman and Sasur is a man, so nothing wrong in the relationship.

Carry on Professor! Write another thesis. You would come out with flying colours.

I am ashamed that we have professors like you in India.

Professor, why can't you understand that it is not a qustion of gender bais. If that be, there should have been a blanket ban on women. In Sabarimala girls under the age of 10 years and women above 50 are allowed.

Betterlearn more about Hindusim, professor. All traditions hae some base. You will get satisfactory answer, if you learn more about the traditions of Hindu community in Kerala. Sabarimala is a shrine, where people from any religion can enter. Lord Ayyapa does not discriminate you on caste, religious and gender basis.

The one who is having sound knowledge on any topic, will talk about it very little.

Babu

don't we worship and believe in female goddesses?
by ananya on Jul 06, 2006 03:21 AM  Permalink

Why such a fuss over a trivial issue in a country where women are primarily seen in a child-bearing role? Even if the Kannada actress did enter the temple at an age when she had attained puberty, what is the harm? Does one mean to say that women are lesser human beings? I wonder how long this kind of superstitious mentality is going to be persued in India! Menstruation - as many wise and learned might know - is also a cleansing process for the female body. Going by this, females should actually be allowed to enter temples rather than males. Continue with all these opression against women and continue aborting all female foetuses in India and one day you will end up with nobody to marry and procreate or carry your family name forward!

Old Hindu customs
by Dr. Who on Jul 06, 2006 02:24 AM  Permalink

I know of many well known South Indian temples where widows are not permitted to enter the inner sanctum. Young Indians may not know that Mahatma Gandhi went on fast to allow dalits in to hindu temples. Most temples changed their policies due to Gandhi's protest. Hinduism is an evolving, living religion unlike other religions. If Gandhi was alive today, he would have led a million women march to temples that had archaic policies.

Om Shanti.

by Rakesh Narayan on Jul 06, 2006 01:48 AM  Permalink

This has nothing to with equality. There are rules for entry in many places. Most opera houses would not allow a person without a dress code. Theres nothing wrong in having rules for entry even in temples. Otherwise why shouldnt people wear shoes when they are inside. Its ridiculous to treat this as a case of inequality or unfair treatment of women, wherein its clear that the God has a special significance. Do not dilute peoples religious sentiments. I dont agree with a fatwa like thingie imposed on Jayamala, but she did something wrong if she did what she did.

First of all...

Before Mr. George Iype casts the first stone..he needs to interview the Pope, why there are no women as Catholic priests..How come there is no woman pope, let alone a black Pope? Let him find answer to these questions before running a story on this Sabrimala incident.

This is just a hype from Christian mafia in Kerala to show how uncivilized and backward Hinduism is...Well just look at your own face in the mirror first before calling someone else ugly...Mr. George Iype get a life...

Take heart Mr. Rao. It is reasonably believed that at least one of the Popes was a woman and even bore 3-4 children!!!!!!!!!!

Just because something is a tradition and has been happening for decades, doesnt mean it is right, I think all people here in this forum, who are against women entering the temple wud have given exactly the same arguments in favor of widow burning rituals like sati or for dowry,or for continuing with the caste system , that it has been going on for ages and therefore should not be challenged.
