Old Hindu customs
by Dr. Who on Jul 06, 2006 02:24 AM

I know of many well known South Indian temples where widows are not permitted to enter the inner sanctum. Young Indians may not know that Mahatma Gandhi went on fast to allow dalits in to hindu temples. Most temples changed their policies due to Gandhi's protest. Hinduism is an evolving, living religion unlike other religions. If Gandhi was alive today, he would have led a million women march to temples that had archaic policies.

Om Shanti.
