Parliament costs taxpayers Rs.20,000 (or whatever) a minute, whether it is stalled or not. If I were an MP, and if I honestly felt that the "business" to be transacted by parliament is not good for the people, I would certainly try to stall it. Allowing the particular business to be transacted may cost the "taxpayer" immensely more than Rs.20,000 a minute in recurring and non-recurring, wasteful expenditure. For example, the OBC quota is going to cost us Rs.17,500 crores, and the returns would be virtually NIL.
Instead of wasting tax-payer's money by frequent walkouts and stalling the parliaments the politicians may peacefully discuss the issues for the welfare of people and save money. Finanace Minister has levied Service Tax and so many other taxes the impact of which the public is experiencing in many ways. Medium and poor Shopkeepers stopped giving bills for the purchases made for fear of service tax. This lead to the increase in black money and excessive purchasing power in people which again lead to inflation.Instead of heavy service taxes and taxes the Government should necessary steps to avoid wasteful Government Expenditures like stalling the Parliaments.
No wonder !we have got ruling party & then oppositions PLUS we elect them in more or less same equal strength, moreover the speaker cannot be a dictator plus the amount or quantity of members is also not telescopic or pyramidical which sort of makes things unmanagable & unwieldy according 2 me so it should b expected & with the prescription evolve further into te said trend;no body can bell the cat so brave it & bear it relax & let things take its course because it simply cannot b solved.
While the author is doing a good job of highlighting costs, let us also look at the loses from corruption scandals, such as Bofors, Volcker, Quatrochhi's get away, subverting the consitution in Goa and other places. Please let all these corrupted politicians go, once and for all and let our country be ruled by visionary, honest, able and reliable administrators -- wishful thinking indeed!
It does not matter how many minutes our politicians adjourned the houses. At the end of the term they do nothing. And I feel the whole term is a wastage for a common INDIAN.

The view expressed here is of very important nature. However how to apply this, that need to be discussed & I strogly feel is that: They must be made responsible as because of whose act the LOSS occured. The same must be made good before payment of their salary. President must take out such step or anact some regulation with the help of Supereme Court, so that such disruption may be compensated for.
our poltician will continue stalling the parliament..... "who cares not my money " i need to make a public stunt that i also work for country by stalling the proceedings of the parliament :)
Its unbelievable..Stalling Parliament costs taxpayers Rs 20,000 a minute ?.Will the politicians realize this and conduct themselves nicely in the parliament? How to discipline them if not?
China has no such problems, and see how well she's doing. To date 'democracy' has done no good for India - rather it's made a bad situation even worse - her populace are so poor and stupid that the promise of a few kilos of rice is enough to get them to vote a particular way - this open bribery for votes is the 'democracy' that Indians shamelessly boast of. It's time to shut down the do-nothing Parliament and throw out the useless, self-cetered, power-hungry, corrupt netas -it's all just one massive exercise in futulity and a total waste of scarce resources.
