for god sake do not hang around criticising the politians and other natural happenings , the need of the hour is to see that all persons affected by the rains are in proper health and under safe conditions and further not getting deterioated, so at least stop blaming everyone .
People of Mumbai , mind well , politians know it better that public memory is short and they can get away from their duties. hereafter stop Rasta roko , instead catch hold of politians and gherao them for days keeping them in water pothole on road for at least three days. Do this in shifts and do not allow them to move away for a minute also. Then they shall know what agony people have gone through. Rasta roko is bullying somebody innocent and politicians enjoy this scene sitting in AC rooms.
Catch hold of corrupt officers and they should be beaten on road in public every Sunday .
Mumbai shall improve fast.
I think any other way shall lead to ultimate disaster and witnessing some victim amongst people only.
Compell to have fresh elections in such hot atmosphere , within one month so that real things shall come out.
The day is not too far , people shall take law in hands if such attitude continues .
Sad to see the condition of Mumbai, being financial capital of India, but it is a natural disaster. Much could have been be done by municipal corporation of Mumbai & energy ministry to improve safety of people living in Mumbai.
One must bear that India is one of the fast developing nations in the world and has opened up its door to rest of the world. Hence, India as a whole, needs drastic improvements in its infrastructure, which depends on our political leaders.
I am from Chennai and presently living in Pune since one year. I have been following the news regarding this 7/26 disaster to a fairly decent extent. I had been to Mumbai few times. Always, I had thought, if any disaster strikes Mumbai, how the people are going to manage. I got the answer that it is very difficult. In one of the popular dailies, I read that the Disaster Management programme in Mumbai is a multi-crore project and it was the best kept secret during last week. Also, I read, that one of the top government officials has been quoted saying "Who will expect such huge rains like this?". This statement really irked me. Mumbai is not like Chennai bereft of rains. Every year, Mumbai comes to a grinding halt for at least two days. Does not that responsible person know about this? He is asking this question to the public/press. The answer is he has to expect such huge rains. He does not know Disaster management does not work with 20 mm of daily rainfall but with 2000 MM of daily rainfall and with earthquake of magnitude 10.
The ineptness in dealing with such calamities is clearly evident. When combined with our careless attitude, they form a deadly combination extracting a heavy price from common man.
I dont see this phenomenon as something specific to Mumbai, rather a grim remider what is really going on in our country. A similar careless attitude of the authorities was exposed by a massive earthquake in Gujarat few years ago, Then similar concerns were raised about how illegel construction was thriving in Ahmedabad. We dont seem to learn from the mistakes of past.
Time and again we are reminded by mother nature of such blunders, but nothing seems to change.
I really feel sorry for the victims, hope that mother nature would be more kind to those affected.
The tragedy in Mumbai is mostly manmade. Politicians
promoting slums with promises to keep them as vote
banks and bureucrats ignoring corruption under their own nose, has accumulated the situation to this extent. Transperancy and accountability is totally absent in local bodies. Money can cover up anything.
- keep the city away as capital and from power brokers
flooding the city every day to add to pollution and congestion. Let a new capital come in between Mumbai
I totally agree with Mr. Nitin Shukla. Mumbai will grow only when the inflow reduces. Mumbai has reached a saturation point. It is very critically balanced. It can not accomodate any more inflow.
When Mother Earth can not bear the load, it creates some natural calamity to reduce the load. Think about it: Tsunami, earth quakes, floods ..... and it is further aggrevated by mis-management.
