The ineptness in dealing with such calamities is clearly evident. When combined with our careless attitude, they form a deadly combination extracting a heavy price from common man.
I dont see this phenomenon as something specific to Mumbai, rather a grim remider what is really going on in our country. A similar careless attitude of the authorities was exposed by a massive earthquake in Gujarat few years ago, Then similar concerns were raised about how illegel construction was thriving in Ahmedabad. We dont seem to learn from the mistakes of past.
Time and again we are reminded by mother nature of such blunders, but nothing seems to change.
I really feel sorry for the victims, hope that mother nature would be more kind to those affected.
