Will 3G also improve the pathetic voice services? I havent met a single soul in India who is happy with the quality of voice calls of any operator. While traveling from Bandra in Mumbai to Borivali, a call drops at least 20 times. This is true with any dam operator in India.

Indian souls now a days having a low quality and frequently dropping voice, especially in Mumbai region. Not to blame telecom. It is intelligence failure and fear of more failures in future.

what crap are you talking?? are you trying to be symbolic in talking about the Mumbai attacks?
First try to analyse who is going to benefit from such gadgets. Not the majority of Indians who live BPL. Not the common man who spends most of his earning in vegetables and groceries. Only the few who get extra money and have no means to spend it.
Secondly, the terrorists will first start using this and create more problem while our police will keep wondering what this technology is all about! So there is a danger in it. Then can have a conference with Pakistani bosses and show them live how they are exploding bombs in India and killing common man.
The pervert teenagers who use it more for sex pictures and keep downloading and forwarding more rapidly.
Any technology not helping common man have two square meals a day is neither a priority nor a pride. Our PM may be happy having happier rich people but he should strive to bring average common man above BPL.
May be many may not agree with me since we do not know what is squalor. One has to experience it to appreciate it.

This is not the case. I'm not saying that there will be no bad use of 3G technology, but the advantages are much more. As you pointed out that 3G has no use for poor people (BPL). Please consider following cases:
1. With fast data/voice/video transfer doctors and medical professionals can carry on their services in remote parts (villages) of our country where ONLY wireless technology can reach.
2. Same point applies to education. Remote and distant learning will be much easy. Village schools can be upgraded to city level education.
3. Cheap Broadband Internet can enable easy access to the information to everybody.
4. New technology always enables growth in the industry. Many new ventures will take place resulting in more jobs.
These are some important points. There are many more.
Imagine if we would have said no to computers, mobile phones, satellite television etc. where we would be now?
Remember technology is not bad. Good/Bad depends upon the people who use it.
I ve been using I Phone for last six months.( Imported Version). There are many features which r missing in the I Phone. And even though this phone has good features, i dont think its going to sell at this price. I shifted back to N95 which i was using earlier as i think thats better to handle.
What is the big deal. I am in Kenya and using my Nokia 5310 whcih is a 3G phone and using Safaricom as the service provider for broadband internet connection.. This is already in Kenya and other countries in Africa. It is surpruising that India is only now launching broadband internet connection on 3G phones.
Safaricom and Celtel already offer such services in kenya and many more are coming in.No big deal

Preeti, we Indians dont need 3G for browsing porn on our mobile phones like you and your Kenya. So we didnt opt for that technology yet.
Do you know about LTE lately? Ha... Poor lass, you would be googling to know its full form on your Nokia 5310 now

yes you said right man ,we should appreciate this, step by step we will go top of the world
1) All the mobile companies esp. pvt operators, when they reduce the tariff, they dont give the benefit of reduced tariff to customers, by default. Rather they ask the customers to send sms to opt for the reduced tariff. Till that time, customers not knowing about the change/reduced tariff is charged/looted at the higher rates. This practice would be understandable, if the reduced tariff comes with some condition attached with reduced tariff like monthly rental, etc. But when rates are reduced for all plans (like STD tariff reduction during the month of May 08, throughout the plans without asking for any monthly rental done by Vodafone, Airtel, etc.), it should be made mandatory for them to give the benefit to all immediately without waiting for customers’ acceptance if there is no linkage between the said reduction with any other conditions.
Ironically, the same companies when increase the call rates, they immediately hike the rates without intimating its customers.
TRAI plz look into the matter and do the needful to keep a control over network operators.

2) pre-paid customers can come to know abt the actual cost of the call made or sms sent, etc. done by them from the balance available. just like that the same facility shud also b made available to post-paid ie billing customers.
for this, they can devise a system so that billing customers can come to know the amount of bill outstanding since say, first day of the month. so the mobile user before making the call check the balance bill outstanding and subsequent to the call, again check the bill. the difference in the bill will the actual cost of that particular call.
this system will keep a check on unreasonably high bills charged by operators.
No doubt 3G will bring India in a developed stage but I request all the companies introducing 3G must weed out the most deadly virus hacking by introducing some anti hacking software in the mobile other wise it will be disaster for millions of subscriber who will have direct connections to his or her bank a/c or credit card .
