all the Indian people including me, since Indians
lack in discipline and respect.

British left India with leaving the most invaluable asset "ENGLISH" but took away
their "DISCIPLINE" and "RESPECT"

I beg REDIFF to continue to put articles and change the shape of the Indian People's life
especially in higher organizations

I can't agree more with you sir. I have built and managed several organizations in India but i manage these teams remotely. I do have leaders in India as well. My key theme for the team is "MUTUAL RESPECT" - It is very important for us to know one thing: If you can't respect yourself then you can't respect others. So, we have to learn and practice how to respect yourself. I was able to retain a team of 50 people for 3 yrs without any issues. Team is extremly happy to work in the org where they are now. Many guys in the market place want to be a manager but lacking 101 of management. We have a horrible practice in the market place to change title to manager after few years of service - absolutely NUTS!!. Secondly, we have to be honest and loyal to what we do. There are people out there trying to backstab and take credits of somebody else's work and trying to go up in the ladder. They succeed in certain extend as well but oneday they will collapse big time. Why this is happening? rest of the team is not empowered to speak up. If anybody out there is reading this article and if you really want to become a good manager then please make sure you respect, be honest and loyal to yourself first and do the same to your peers and subordinates and higher up - even if you don't get a BIG recognition but you will become the best manager in this field. Good Luck folks. Very good article!! Hats off to Rediff!!

I think you can ask the city councils in India.
We Indians have perfected the art of Waste Management and can help the Western nation on this.

Our technology for waste management is very advanced. We have vast neighbourhoods in Indian cities , which are totally free of Garbage, Sewage or Incerdibly smelling Bad air.
We Indians are so healthy because we clean up our surroundings even at the expense of keeping our homes dirty.

Indian Managers
by your amre on Jan 13, 2008 06:05 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This theory wont work for Indian Managers. Good managers get beating and bad managers play politics and lick their mangers and win. In a place where ethics has no sense, his wont prevail. For exam-ple see TCS managers.. They expect their subordinates to be doing their household work. By doing so theyremain at Onsite for long years. Good guys return back to India on rotation policy.

Community feeling should be encouraged among employees - Manager or otherwise.
If we --believe in a community-- then things like jealousy or sub-ordination do not become an issue.
Our self-interest comes second and community interest will come first. Working for the greater good becomes the motto.
To encourage community thinking within the corporates could be an interesting challenge for managers.
Remember , leaders always lead from the behind -They are never at the front even in a battlefield.

Next question is - How to create community oriented culture in the corporate?
Any corporate environment is strewn with gory tales of back-stabbing, mistrust and foul play.
These issues become unmanageable and can potentilly lead to employees defecting from the company.
We human do not thrive very well in a hostile environment. So how do you create a happy, sharing and freindly environment?
How to create trust between the employees ( P.S. Managers are also employees. )
- First of all sense off justice should prevail. No body should be above the corporate culture and people should be treated fairly.
- Humanistic aspects of situation should be given as much importance as rash and brute laws. It is okay to just throw a person off the company if the situation demands - but adequate explantion should be given to the employee. Moreover his reptriation / relocation should be considered as paramount. The expulsion should come out as 'Mere Transfer' and NOT CHUCKING.
- Perhaps there could be some more --points-- but overall I'll say let's respect Human Beings as much as we respect the systems created by the very same HUMAN BEINGS.

Managerial Skill by books
by ravi singhal on Jan 02, 2008 10:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I want to share my experiance , which give me a great laughing MASALA for many days, I was in NIGERIA, and want to hire one person to assist us in NIGERIA operation. We given one AD in newspaper. Neraly 70 persons are there, I put one CCTV at the waiting hall, I was surprised to see, most of the peoples are with atleast one book in their hand, Like " YOU CAN WIN", WHO EAT YOUR BREAD & BUTTER", HOW TO BECOME GOOD MANAGER, HOW to NEGOCIATE for your salary etc.

I was very surprised that everybody is answering the questions very tactfully & not giving any clearly idea about their expactation. So i decided one general question, What is your salary & perk expactation" and i was surprised that none of these 70 students given me the direct answer, they have 70 different tactical/political answer. So sometimes, I feel these motivational or PROFESSIONAL guru make every worker smart to negotiate only & the simple process, which can be finish in 5 minutes, now need 50 minutes to get out.

God bless Companies as well as general peoples from thes professional Guru/ Inspirational Guru. Even after discussing with 30 minutes, We can find, that how much & which management books he studied/influenced. God bless us
