BPO firms wake to red dawn
by raj on Nov 04, 2005 11:43 PM  Permalink

Lets see examples of how Unions "protected" workers interest and of what will happen to IT/BPO the last sector with decent jobs for today's youth:-

- Yesterday 2 units of Hero cycles closed throwing out 2000 workers of their jobs due to union trouble
- Ajanta clocks closed all its factories and moved to China, thanks to unions.
- In 1980's lakhs of Textile workers in Bombay lost jobs and livelihood thanks to their Unions.
- Millions of Keralites work anywhere else in the world except God-own country, thanks to Unions and their political bosses
- Ditto with Bengalis looking for jobs outside WB
- 80 lakh Indian youth who enter job market every year get no decent jobs thanks to unions imposed stifling labour laws

BPO attrition
by Sanu on Nov 02, 2005 10:38 AM  Permalink

Hi,

I agree with what CITU president, Mr Pandhe says, here in India we are not following the labour rules, employees are exploited. People work for more than 8 hours, I agree once in a while it is necessary to work but not always.

Please go visit abroad and come no one works like us. They come at sharp 8 am and they leave at Sharp 5pm. Why is that we should work like dogs and are not paid as them? I hope this point should be valid. We dont have job securities like before, everything is short, in case of life and also in case of work. Not only this, we cant even enjoy our indian Festivals. Only when they have there offs we should have otherwise no off for us. This is rediculous, yesterday was Diwali, all the Bpo's and Call center were working. Do you think this is the right, Diwali comes once in a year it doesn't come every month. Even if you work on that day no extra pay. I think our Government is seriously closing there eyes and are lease bothered about all this, all they want is just the income from the sources.

We should definately support Mr. Pandhe with this regard.

Unionization is the answer
by Sharath Kumar on Oct 31, 2005 11:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I firmly believe in unionizing the BPO sector - especially when you consider the attrocities management gets away with. If the management is so clear in the way they deal with labour then why oppose unionization? Managements fear the entry of unions because they can no longer be arbitrary or manipulative in their ways. For once the workers will have a voice.

Dear Sharat,

Have the comrades paid you? And I dont think you belong to the IT and BPO sector. We dont get exploited by our management. We love working 12-14 hours a day - our office congeniality is as good as home. And who the hell is talking bout facilities and protection. The salary and perqs we get are much higher. These leftist they cant see the nation progress, because if the nation progress they cant fool any body bcoz the moment u are educated you wont be hearing to their stupidity. And stop poking ur nose in our sector. If you dont like this sector leave your job & work elsewhere. We are happy and we dont need the skeletons of humanity (Communist) to mar our industry and the nation as a whole (Service Sector is driving the nation's GDP. Pls Leftist an their buddu Sharat you guys spare India & for a change go to China and see whats happening there. Thats why they are prospering.

RE:Unionization is definitely the answer
by Sharath Kumar on Nov 07, 2005 03:05 AM  Permalink
Dear Koushik,
I was not paid by anyone. I used to work in the BPO industry, in Chennai for about 3 years, 6 months. Was promoted 4 levels. Currently, am an MBA student in the US studying 'Stakeholder Theory and Social Responsibility'.
The fact that you enjoy working is your prerogative. Nobody can interfere with you enjoying (or not enjoying) your work. Management and your team members can provide an atmosphere which is conducive, but at the end of the day it is your responsibility. Now, the point here is not whether you enjoy your work or not. It is the fact that you work 12 to 14 hours a day.
Questions: Do you get paid overtime? Are you able to balance work and life with this schedule? Do you realize that management has a role in subtly manipulating your time (by making it appealing to you and others) in the office? Know that an ebullient attitude like yours towards work is what management is looking out for to take advantage of.
Moving forward, speak for yourself instead of: "We love working 12-14 hours a day." I am not sure if many others share such a sentiment, or maybe you did speak with EVERYONE in your industry who works 12 to 14 hours a day?

Sharath.

BPO firms wake up to red dawn

The Trade Union mafias are terrorists no different from the Laskar-e-Toiba or Harkul Mujahadeen or any such criminal organizations and should be banned as terrorist organizations. India can ill-afford to be driven backwards and down by these self-seeking scumbags posing as protectors of workers rights. When all the jobs disappear, then we'll see which jobs they will have to protect.

Unionisation in IT secor
by Gopa on Oct 31, 2005 11:28 AM  Permalink

Hi all,

Left parties want to see RED flags in front of IT companies/BPOs. I have a question to the union leaders. When they talk about the 12-14 hours work schedule in IT/BPO companies, are they aware of the high salaries being paid for that. No unions please, please let us live.

Thanks
Gopa

Self-destructive mechanism
by GS Roopi on Oct 31, 2005 11:12 AM  Permalink

India has an in-built self-destructive mechanism in its system and the Left is the physical representative of this disease. We all have seen how devastating the unionism in all our government and public sector organisations. The on-going phenomenon of the universal distribution of wealth and knowledge, be it through globalisation or the opportunities thrown open to the so far underprivileged nations like India, is a natural process of 'evolution' and no force in the world can stop this. In fact, the world is moving towards the real socialism. Those who are raring to don the savior of the workers in Indian BPO industry seem to be either afraid of this or unprepared to march forward. Enough is enough. You have miserably failed in leading the workers, leave alone the nation, all these years. Please try not to spoil the game and leave people alone. If all your eagerness is to extort some party fund, do it secretly. The world is watching us. Damage is already done. If you keep youself away now, dear comrades, you will be doing the nation and its people a great service. Oh workers of the BPO, stand united, in averting the unionism!

Cant the Left be thrown in Bay of Bengal
by Koushik on Oct 31, 2005 10:22 AM  Permalink

Cant the left and all its bethren in India thrown in Bay of Bengal? West Bengal and the country at large will benefit. All these thirty years they totally finished off Bengal. Now they are eyeing to destroy the economic boom of the country. After a long time Bengal has got a sane chief minister. But his own comrades are leaving no stone unturned to stop him to do any good to Bengals economic scenario. And then courtesy to Sonia Gandhis UPA Govt. Left are now up in arms to destroy the IT industry in India? This is the price we are paying for bringing in Congress and voting out NDA. From ITES sector we dont need any union, we dont mind working even 20 hrs a day, we dont need any protection given by the left unions. Let India not loose the price competitiveness, let India be the market leader in BPO sector. Our learned PM Manmohan Singhji and CM Chidaramji pls chain the left. Pls dont let the Left ruin our economy. Let them continue ruining their bastion Bengal. Why cant you ask these CITU and co. to go to China and see what their taujis are doing there? Please all of us in the ITES sector be united enough not to let the Left ever interfare in our industry. Let them go to hell.
