Zakirji Yes, yoga does help to control hormonal disorders marvellous. Since you are already doing cardio I would strongly urge u to start a yoga programme... when u say thyroid you have not said if it is hyper or hypo? In any case, for general toning and weight loss, surya namaskar is recommended. However, since you have the attendant problem of BP, you have to first bring that under control; so you cannot start with sun salute, but instead do pawanmuktasana series -- joint-releasing poses -- found easily on the net( also described in detail in the book Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha by Swami Satyanandaji of Bihar school -- u may order by post from ashram, or Giri bookshop/Landmark bookshop -- check in my Yoga address blog for contact details).Other poses include fish pose, supta vajrasana, yoga mudra, viparita karani mudra; Pranayama practices -- cooling ones like seetkari -- help control BP, plus nadi shodhana. And a meditation practice like yoga nidra (see my blog on this, plus where these CDS are available) is absolutely essential to speed up the healing process. Hope this answers your query. And about weight loss you may check my blogs on Fitness: yoga in your body for more details.

So sorry Zakirji, just spotted this message! For hairfall, if it is genetic, I guess there can be no cure. But where it is due to other causes, yoga suggests all forward bending poses, and inversions, due to increased blood flow and stimulation it provides to the scalp. These forward bends are also advised for premature greying.

Shyness is a problem in most Indian youth and not exclusive to you:)It comes with the territory -- because we are discouraged from asking awkward questions in classes or be different or speak out in front of elders. So, in some pf us this just becomes a habit from which it is very difficult to break out from. Now about directing you: I have done about six sets of yoga articles on Rediff.com -- all of them contain guidelines, in the intro section, that are relevant to new-comers. There are also other arciles on yoga on this site. Then, you can start off with the poses I have demonstrated here. But ideally, a beginner should join a good yoga class -- that will help you in your practice. And watch Ramdevji's do-along yoga sessions, which comes twice daily, on TV. That should help.

In therapeutic uses, I mean in helping control diabetes, blood pressure, weight loss, even sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, and also mild addictions -- the effect is miraculous. In six weeks onwards, if you are regular you can start seeing the difference like those Before and After ads!! After that, unfortunately most people become slack -- but if you continue, you will see that you grow from strength to strength -- yoga's impact is felt immediately only when there is regularity, daily practice -- can I suggest you join a good yoga class and ask them to teach you those fun exciting poses, like bakasana, kakasana, lolasana, etc -- these will speed up things:) Put a search on the net for these and you know what I am talking about.. and for stage presentations, etc you need to do visualisations -- that is, mentally see yourself doing your presentation before a group -- while resting at the end of the yoga session, in your shavasana/corpse pose. This shavasana should be for five to ten mins. at the end of your yoga practice. Why only then and why only during shavasana is visualisation advised in yoga? Because for good and effective self-suggestion, the mind has to be in an alpha state (the brain waves are slower than in normal thinking, but alert and suggestible. In normal thinking our brain is in the beta wave mode and that is very chaotic). If you do this regularly -- the visualisations at the end of your yoga session-- you will find a marked change! Keep us posted as to your
