RE:How to eliminate thyroid problem
by Shameem on Jul 05, 2007 11:58 AM

Zakirji Yes, yoga does help to control hormonal disorders marvellous. Since you are already doing cardio I would strongly urge u to start a yoga programme...
when u say thyroid you have not said if it is hyper or hypo? In any case, for general toning and weight loss, surya namaskar is recommended. However, since you have the attendant problem of BP, you have to first bring that under control; so you cannot start with sun salute, but instead do pawanmuktasana series -- joint-releasing poses -- found easily on the net( also described in detail in the book Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha by Swami Satyanandaji of Bihar school -- u may order by post from ashram, or Giri bookshop/Landmark bookshop -- check in my Yoga address blog for contact details).Other poses include fish pose, supta vajrasana, yoga mudra, viparita karani mudra; Pranayama practices -- cooling ones like seetkari -- help control BP, plus nadi shodhana. And a meditation practice like yoga nidra (see my blog on this, plus where these CDS are available) is absolutely essential to speed up the healing process. Hope this answers your query. And about weight loss you may check my blogs on Fitness: yoga in your body for more details.
