You will gain immense relief with these simple but powerful exercises. The video is on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixhVApzNito&mode=related&search=

Tarunji, it is best to avoid any bending motion when the backache is in the healing stage/extreme stage. Even in physiotherapy this is not advised. Check this link for everyday care with backache: http://www.free-beauty-tips.com/backachepre.html How you get up from bed, how many hours you sit continuously (not for too long continuously since this aggravates the pain),how you lift a load, bend to wash your face etc are all crucial part of your treatment just now, so you must be conscious of this to avoid aggravating the condition. Read also this article at this link about more every day tips to avoid aggravating pain : http://www.globalspine.net/correct_lifting_position.html. . These postural corrections will offer natural relief. This link I am giving further also advises on how to sit while driving etc: http://www.clevelandclinic.org/health/health-info/docs/0300/0359.asp?index=4485. About traction: it is initially advised to take the pressure off. It has its uses. On whether to continue or not, your spine expert would be the best person to advise you on it. If you feel worried, I suggest you seek a second opinion from another spine consultant.

Yoga has a miraculous effect if its guidelines are properly followed. I know of spine specialists like Dr Vrajresh Shah in Borivli west who recommend yoga, in the healing phase, to their patients. I hope this answers your query.
Ms Shameem, I went through your webpage 'Breathe easy yoga', and practised the asanans diligently. It really worked wonders. I feel energetic the whole day. I am able to meditate effectively after these asana especially shashankasana. I guess your efforts to bring this science to masses using this medium(i.e web) is unique and in the right direction as professionals can get educated while work. Hats of maam, you are the baba Ramdev of web.

Rameshji, though I am an advocate of alternative therapies, I also believe they complement and don't quarrel with allopathy. And allopathy is needed in special cases or emergency situations. So, in your friend's case he has to go with the doctor's advice and do the follow-up required of him. In normal course bone becomes soft usually due to lack of mobility.(In fact, a sedentary youth's bone may not be as dense as an agile old person.) Exercise and mobility challenge muscles to which the bones are attached. This in turn make the bones dense -- bones are live `factories' (that make blood cells, store key nutrients etc) and need the constant challenge of muscular movement and resistance training to remain in peak condition.Even excessive protein intake often blocks calcium absorption, affecting bone health etc. I am not sure what could be the provocation in your friend's case. I am sorry I am unable to help u, but if your friend has been advised corresponding physiotherapy, dietary advice by his ortho this would be the first line of defence against his problem. Wishing him speedy recovery..

Thank u for sharing Rameshji. But I am not quite clear about your query. If it is related to homeopathy then I am not the right person to answer, since yoga is my speciality:)
RE:For Hypertension
by Shameem on Jul 24, 2007 08:33 PM Permalink
In hypertension, since there are lots of contraindications plus body stiffness, you have to start with simple pawan muktasana series -- it will show great results. Continue with this for a few weeks; start pranayamas like nadi shodhana, and bhramari. For how-to do this, I suggest the book Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha (Bihar School of Yoga, by Swami Satyananda Saraswati). Rs 200. And/Or Yoga for hypertension (also same publisher, same author) is the best book since it gives you a week-by-week schedule, how-to-do instructions, and food changes needed for hypertension. It also discusses habits -- like thought patterns, eating, sleeping etc. So, it is the best book and guide. Rs 90. Both are available at Landmark bookstore (see their website for local address/delivery).
Hi Shameem, I also suffer from lower back ache. the back ache is generally more on days I drive for a longer duration. Also, is it advisable to sleep on a flat hard surface (say on the floor)? I feel my back stiff when I wake up in the morning; possibly because the AC is on through the night. Is it advisable to discontinue using AC at night? Plse advise. regards Sunil

Perhaps your backache is posture-induced? Do a complete check-up with a spine expert to establish the cause. If nothing serious is indicated, you may right away start with these poses for relief. If, however, there is a problem, then you must follow the prescription (traction, physiotherapy, etc) as the spine expert suggests. About sleeping surface: a firm surface is said to be good. It means also a firm mattress..so no need to shift to the floor! About morning stiffness: it is a problem common to most people who may not have a habit of physical exercise. In fact, more than the AC, it may have to do with a late dinner, TV-watching before sleeping (one slumps more while doing so) and lack of a regular physical activity. I suggest you start some simple stretching exercises. You also need to do stretch-breaks throughout the day: often just regular stretching can relieve posture-induced or work-induced backache and stiffness. When our body remains in one position for long, blood circulation to that area is reduced, causing a lot of problems -- blood flow is essential for removing waste, repair, transport of nutrients and oxygen to that area. So stretching takes care of all this.
