Loosing weight
by Gaurii on Oct 31, 2006 07:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It seems that the author has straight away lifted the material of this article from a foreign journal and sent it to print and even rediff has not bothred to check on this aspect, atleat it is expected of the writers of such columns to show some common sense while copying articles.

Pactice breathing exercise (pranayamas), inhale and exhale and kapalbhati, daily 30mins , will be enough to loose/gain your weight. You will get enormous energy to work weithout any tension and will be happy most of the time while at work. On holidyas do it for 1-2 hrs.

I have managed to stay slim and work hardfor it
by Ansuya D\'silva on Oct 31, 2006 07:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear All,

I am a 31 yr old woman and have a 3 yr old son. I have had a C-section and two D & C'ds because of threstened miscarriage. I have always been a thin girl but during preganancy I put on 16 kgs.

My practical advice to every woman who wants to lose post pregnancy weight is :

1) Dont rest too much after your delivery
2)Start Exercise as soon as you can ( I never exercise till my son was one actually ididnt need to because I was breastfeeding, I actual gain starts once you wean. So start as soon as you decide to wean.
3) Cut portions instead of Dieting. My rule is eat less.
4) Drink lots of boiled - lukewarm water ( You develop a taste for it and then you dont like anyother kind)
5) Always buy beutiful stylish clothes - it keeps you motivated.
6) Always think - YOU CAN and believe me you will.

My Height - 5.5
My Weight - 55
My Figure - I can wear any kind of outfit and look like a college girl. I am not too thin ..being a mother gave me the right curves.

Good Luck .....never give up

the point number 3 needs clarification- what do you mean by eating less, isnt that dieting?
also lukewarm water does not cause any weight loss.Individual experiences of weight loss cannot be a guideline for others to follow.

Reducing weight of Brinda
by Dr. K L Rana on Oct 31, 2006 07:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There are so may ways to reduce weight.

1. Excercise or Yoga
2. Food habits
3. Medicine which does not have any side effect.

All recommed all these above. As far as medicine is concerned, we prescribe Homoeopathy remedies, which are free from side effect.

In this we can reduce weight 10 - 12 kg in three month period safely.

We teach yoga for ten days at our clinic, plus give medicine (Homoeopathy or Bio-chemicals)which ever is suiting to the temperament.

It's not true that women are asked to eat a lot after delivery. In fact traditionally, at least in south India, women are not given rice at all the first few days but a kind of porridge called "ganji", and then gradually the intake is increased. Breast feeding correctly requires that the woman should have a lot of proteins in her diet, and the regular body massage and oil baths would keep the weight under control/ Of course the main thing is that we should start walking even in the hospital itself, even if it is in the corridor at least.Be active within reasonable limits once you return home, and as one reader has said, once the baby starts crawling, there's enough running around for us to do.

No medicines can cause weight loss, unless they are causing loss of appetite. That is unhealthy in a long run.

losing weight

The writer of the above article seems to forget that Indians have been brought up on a diet of rice/chapathi and it's impractical to suggest a diet without either of these in sufficient quantities. Being overweight myself,I have tried a diet without rice/chapathi but then found that i tend to eat a lot more of other stuff in between. So the best thing is to stick on to our traditional meal pattern of course avoiding too much fat, and then the craving for between-meal snacks is reduced. Also include plenty of sprouts, fruits and veggies.Don't feel guilty if you eat a bit more of something occasionally.Exercise/gymming apart, one needs to just walk a lot, even if to the local store/bank etc. This actually helps better than just walking to exercise.
lastly, if you are feeling good and maintain good health, i think it's better to live with the few extra kilos rather than get overworked about it and adding to the mental tension.Just make sure you are neatly dressed and look your best.

I am 34yrs old.I have a 7yr old daughter and 2yr old son. I was 80kilos 2months ago.Now i am 74kgs after i joined the gymn. I have a goal to loose another 7kilo till Dec.Talking about eating when u are taught to eat from childhood (INDIANS)Sorry i do not agree with this statement. If u go 2 see why do Indian women only look horrible after child birth(RICH AND MIDDLE CLASS WOMEN) becoz of the bad habits taught 2 eat during pregnancy.A pregnant woman is told 2 eat everything and anything during pregnancy WHY?.This is the most important time when a women has 2 B conscious about her food, eat less fatty food, more veg without oil, more fruits etc.It is always said the opposite. That is the reason why women go thru bad times during pregnancy. If u go 2 see the poor women R the best they work and fend for themselves and the others in the family that is the reason they dont put on weight. Why cant V have compulsory gymns all over in every city where not only pregnant women but men and women of all ages do workouts and B healthy.
Why can't the government make gymns in all corner of every city be COMPULSORY.
REMAINING HEALTHY IS REMAINING WEALTHY.

most suitable for the west. Not in a tropical vegetarian diet. most people ( including my granny) say they feel as if they are "sick" when they are asked to eat leavened bread. ( not the roti genre).
Most of the socalled "in style" diet experts tend to have a USA stamp and that is it. I say thay have to go back to Bharateeya basics. Also according to a reliable survey in US....8 in a million look like super models.
So....just eat in moderation. Stay active. Don't be paranoid. Discourage so called diet experts.
