The writer of the above article seems to forget that Indians have been brought up on a diet of rice/chapathi and it's impractical to suggest a diet without either of these in sufficient quantities. Being overweight myself,I have tried a diet without rice/chapathi but then found that i tend to eat a lot more of other stuff in between. So the best thing is to stick on to our traditional meal pattern of course avoiding too much fat, and then the craving for between-meal snacks is reduced. Also include plenty of sprouts, fruits and veggies.Don't feel guilty if you eat a bit more of something occasionally.Exercise/gymming apart, one needs to just walk a lot, even if to the local store/bank etc. This actually helps better than just walking to exercise. lastly, if you are feeling good and maintain good health, i think it's better to live with the few extra kilos rather than get overworked about it and adding to the mental tension.Just make sure you are neatly dressed and look your best.
