So is Advani. The question is why did Ashoka kill so many people if he was a hindu and why did he leave hinduism after seeing violence ? There is a clear connection. To become a good person he had to leave hinduism because there was no way he could have reformed himself into a peace loving person living as a hindu.

R K Reddy, not only hindus but the buddhists also turn violent when they reach the threshold limit of tolerance. Have you heard of Shaolin Kangfu? That is Buddhist martial art!!!!! Even very recently the buddhist monks in Myanmar (Burma) turned against the military dictators!

R K Reddy, Ashoka repented his own action of killing so many people in the battle of Kalinga. That has nothing to do with any religion. Hinduism is not a prosyletising religion and Ashoka did not kill anyone for propagating hinduism (unlike the Christian missionaries or the islamic invaders). That is the basic difference.

Because hindus are peace loving, you terrorists are still roaming free and getting guts to speak nonsense on this forum. If you call ashoka a terrorist, do I need to mention what Aurangazeb, babar, ISI, HUJI, Indian Mujahideen should be called? Ashoka accepted Buddhism which is a subset of Hinduism itself. There is a mention of Gautam Buddha's incarnation in Bhagvatam and other puranas.
It is not easy to understand God if you are not his devotee. Our shaastras are coming directly from God. Since you are jealous of God, you are jealous of the shastras also.

But why I should tell him? Is he the authority?
We accept the shastras. Shastrasa have a mention of Buddha. Thats all.
We have only one authority : God. And anybody who repeats God's instructions (acaryas) are our authority.
Thsi world is like a big ocean and this ocean contains many dangerous philosophies and sectarian religions (sharks) which are ready to gulp you down anytime. But there is only one ship which can help you cross this ocean - BHAKTI - Devotion to God. Thats all.
and our shastras have very clearly mentioned this - God says - only my devotee can understand Me.

Ashoka's acceptance of Buddhism has nothing to do with Hinduism being violent. Hinduism unlike monolithic religions provide flexibility to lead life in a practical sense. Ashoka's acceptance of Buddhism is because someone did a good job of convincing him that wars are not good. However, its a different matter that subsequent Indian generations became weak in art of war because of this decision by Ashoka which led to conquest by "religion of peace" from arabia!!

Ram and Krishna were mytholical characters. Don't try to justify historical facts with something written in epics (stories).
