There are 'big' people in many countries vehemently deny the holocaust ever took place. So too those who deny that the outcastes - OBCs, Dalits, STs - those outside the Hindu fold, have never been oppressed deniraded, degraded and denied any opportunity for socio-economic advancement. Affirmative action like the quotas for these people are the only way to leapfrog them into the mainstream after millenia of marginalization and oppression. Originally it was supposed to be for only ten years, but the uncaring criminally neglectful Congress never bothered to fulfill their constitutional duties, and affirmative action became just another name for Hafta.
Its all perception which counts for votes. It will be like 60,000 Cr Farm waival when it will not benefit 80% of farmers who have less than 2 acres and who borrowed from loan sharks. It will not cost 60,000 Cr also.
But the perception that the Govt spends a LOT meaning they care for the farmers is expected to translate into votes. Dont forget they will lose many more votes from farmers who paid their dues promptly.
Similarly, even if there is no "on the site" difference in quality of students or quality of life, this will just stir up emotions (All Fs and No Ss).
Upliftment of castes will happen only by economic opportunities and not by reservations. They seem to connect each other but practically nothing much. May be you find lot of peons in Govt and Banks as SC because of caste but that is nothing much...
This verdict would remain as an example where castism surpassed merits. By giving chances to unqualified candidates SC has forced the country backwards. As a result more non professionals will be produced in highly valued sectors like Engineering and Medical. The standards of IITs and AIIMS will go down and India will be declared a country of inept people. In that scenario, foreign investments will reach at its low ebb and NRIs (higher caste) will not send the money. So SC/ST/OBC be prepared to push the country on swamps!
Mayawati urged the government to bring in a constitutional amendment to extend reservation in Central educational institutions to the economically backward sections among the forward communities (FC) and the minorities. The BSP would support the government in Parliament, she promised.
Not to worry eventually survival of the smartest to get a job....as MNC are not bothered about caste, creed or color...only merit with smartness...U can see that in TN...handfull of good doctors ...OBC's are squatting flies in govt related medical industry..Ha Ha

all political parties except BSP see that the unreserved category should not come up at any cost. whether reservation really helps who are really backward is a million dollar question. while constitution provides equal opportunity, these guys find loopholes or making amendments in their favour with a view on votes. the affected unreserved category should unite together and form a political front statewise and win elections and claim their share. that is the only way out.
With this we have created an environment which will help india to not grow in next 50 years....May be great achievement for politicians...But they are now similar to British Raj which did not think about common man but their own pockets...
Thanks Indian Politicians for putting india in such situation.

Dear Sir,
Don't wporry. India's progress won't be impacted by this policy. This is infact good for India's growth since a large secular and democratic country requires equitable development of all sects of people.
Moreover, the OBC and Minority people who join IIMs and IITs are NOT dumb people. They would have scored just a couple of % less than General category and even this difference will reduce as the competition increases within OBCs in future. The best example of this is the TN professional courses admission cut-off marks. The difference between MBC, BC & General is just around 2 - 3%.
So, please stop worrying about the impact to India's progress and start celebrating this milestone judgement.

if the difference in cut off is so low why they need reservation under backward brands?

Unfortunately, the example of the TN prof. courses cut-off marks is not replicated in the case of the IIMs or the IITs. The diff. in cut off marks in the case of the TN courses is entirely due to the fact that the number of seats available is a million (in a manner of speaking) compared to the thousand or so available for the IIMs. The no. of students competing for the prof. courses' seats in TN and in other states is only slightly higher than the no. of seats actually available.
Whereas in the case of the IIMs, about 2.5 lakhs compete for a thousand seats and 3 lakhs compete for about 5000 seats in the IITs.
Now to the most interesting part :
The cut off for general category seats in the IIMs year after year has been in the range of 105 to 120 (all four sections combined). And for SCs and STs, this cut off has consistently been a ridiculously low 60 or thereabouts (if it is kept any higher, the IIMs will not be able to fill their reserved quota of seats !!!). Imagine the gap in aptitude this gulf of around 50 represents - with the securing of every point higher than the 70s or 80s a battle in it's own right. The CAT's formidable fame is derived in the main from the sheer toughness a general category student faces in going from the 90s to the 110s (it is here that the cutting edge of his aptitude and mental make up is really tested). Just imagine his incredulousness when after scoring about 110 and getting interview calls from one or two IIMs, he meets a reserved
