Rediff's Unreal Agenda
by Sanjeev Sharma on Jun 19, 2007 03:34 PM  Permalink

This is great. While Rediff columnists like Praful Bidai and (Mrs. and Mr.) Sandeep Panday would love to see Maoists, Naxalites and other sundry anarchists ruling the roost in India, Rediff's Paki columnists hope to see end of dictatorship and beginning (sic) democracy in Pakistan.

Only one thing to say, these people are nuts.

Musharraf, the last military dictator in Pakistan
by Rajinder Katoch on Jun 19, 2007 03:27 PM  Permalink

Muslims can't help it. A sheep act is part of their religion and behaviour. Take for example, most of the muslims here are more concerned about Palestanians and Sadaam than their own hindu brothers dying on borders due to their islamic brothers on the other side. It is only due to their viscious clergy injected thinking, they do not get respect. Like minded Muslims like Javed, Shabana, Javed Jaffri, Sharukh, Salmaan are very less. They should give equal respect to other religion and keep their god limited to books. It is only then, they can improve. Whether, it is pakistan, Bangladesh or India, they are given one agenda, how to multiply and capture country. They think others living next to them are fool. Riots born from such unmindful production and clonning of humans. There will be more Musharraf, but first remove him.

Predicting pakistan and its future should stop
by Kabadan Y on Jun 19, 2007 03:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is a completely idiotic logic whenever the Indian columnists try to predict the future of pakis. Most of the time it is egg rain on their faces and brains, but still people will give it a shot. Instead, they can start focusing problems on our own backyard. I really don't know from where this urge comes to glean over the world affairs!

Yes, he is a Pakistani and he is proud of being a Pakistani and i am also proud of being a Pakistani. We do have our own problems and democracy is one of them but still we are far better than you people, if you dont beleive visit Pakistan, dont beleive on media. I am sorry to say but its really hard to appreciate the thoughts of the people of the counrty who claim that they are the biggest democracy in the world.

Please note this thumb rule - Islam and democracy can't co-exist.

Please correct Mr. Mars
Illetracy and democracy can't co-exist. For a democratic system to work properly, there should be a certian percentage of people of society which should be educated and unfortunately in whole islamic region except one country (Malaysia), one will not find education. And this is the main reason that we are not having a true democratic governments in Islamic countries. For your correction, Malaysia is a Muslim country but yet they have a very good democratic system going on (so i have proved you wrong). I can name Indonesia also but it is not truly democratic yet.

Why would not any of those revolt in pak ? If they are very much worried of their lives then why the hell they join in politics.

As a national carved out of civilized society in the name of religion, Pakistan is in a search for (futile) identity.
Since the joke of a nation is based on (or want to emulate) an Islamic nation, its future is further destroyed. Democracy, rule of (civilized) law, freedom of media and such concepts don't go together with Islamic ideals. There is no even one Islamic nation that has been democratic since its foundation (even Turkey had to face military intervention to keep fundamentalists out of power).

It is time of chickens coming home to roost. What Mr. Hamid Mir is dreaming of today is the thing their forefathers gave up in quest for a Pakistan.

Pakistan is bound to suffer either Mullahcracy or Military dictatorship. Democracies are for civilized societies.

Law of Karma
by Harish Gurumoorthy on Jun 19, 2007 02:37 PM  Permalink

Pakistan has had a turbulent existence right from the day it was formed. A nation that was created over the bodies of lakhs of Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs can never exist peacefully. The very basis of its creation that Hindus and Muslims couldn't live together and so must have separate nations is WRONG. As you sow, so you reap. If it is not Army vs. Civilians, it will be Sunni vs. Shia, Punjabis vs. Muhajir, Pushtuns vs. Muhajir, or the whole of Pakistan against Ahmadis. PAKISTAN CAN NEVER BE AT PEACE. That's the law of Karma.

Democracy in Pakistan will be a pipe dream
by Mohan Raj on Jun 19, 2007 02:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

With a theocratic foundation Pakistan will never have democracy . The track record of Muslim countries all around the world attest to this fact . Only in the case of Turkey is there a semblance of democracy , but that is because Islam was relegated to the back burner by the Turkish Army .

But in the case of Pakistan that will never happen because the army is an organisation that thrives on religious extremism and it has to be in eternal fight (Jihad) with India to survive as an entity .

And whatever deals the democratic leaders make with India the army will abrogate and vice versa. So India should never trust Pakistan despite the right noises made by liberals like Hamid Mir . They do not have enough clout to guide that country in a peaceful way

India is and has been the shield of Asia preventing Islamic extremism from spreading to East and South East Asia . India should not entertain a dream of peaceful pakistan and let her guard down

In case of Turkey the overall consensus is thr to join EU, which will obviously benefit the poor man of Europe a lot. To join EU being a democracy is the basic criteria. Otherwise dat wud've turned a Dictatorship long back.

But does that mean there are not enough incentives for Pakistan to become democratic in Asia ? Do you think an Asian Union of sorts would be a goading factor for pakistan to become democracy ?

As a client nation to China, USA and Saudi Arabs, Pakistan is not provided the option of democracy lest it start taking care of its own citizens and minding its own business. That would sijmply mean that Pakistan would not be useful in Chinease designs to contain India, American agenda of containing China, Russia, and India, and Saudi hopes of Islamic (nuclear) Bomb.

Futhermore, that would mean that Pakistan would not be able to fulfil its duties as an inernational condom to be used by its clients.

As an artifical construct (with only a seemingly hopeful basis of religion as national identity, which is inherently stupid, as in that case there would be only one islamic nation, not 50 ), its survial is ensured almost entirely by foreign powers for acheiving their own ends.
A true democracy means that Pakistan will be taken of the life support machine it has been on for long time.

Hope I am clear enough.

Fundoo! I agree. Pakistan can never become a democracy, because its creation itself was not based on democratic tenets - its sustenance too is based on non-democratic value systems of some of the supporting nations, and so its future must lie in (the hands of) a non-democratic government.
As you sow, so you reap.

by Rajagopal Nair on Jun 19, 2007 02:26 PM  Permalink

its only a dream. There are so many musharaffs in pak military. If one goes, the another thrives. for Pakis, democracy remains as a dream . Instead of wasting time by competing with India, you guys , please concentrate on your internal affairs and throw out military ruler from your country.
