Democracy in Pakistan will be a pipe dream
by Mohan Raj on Jun 19, 2007 02:32 PM

With a theocratic foundation Pakistan will never have democracy . The track record of Muslim countries all around the world attest to this fact . Only in the case of Turkey is there a semblance of democracy , but that is because Islam was relegated to the back burner by the Turkish Army .

But in the case of Pakistan that will never happen because the army is an organisation that thrives on religious extremism and it has to be in eternal fight (Jihad) with India to survive as an entity .

And whatever deals the democratic leaders make with India the army will abrogate and vice versa. So India should never trust Pakistan despite the right noises made by liberals like Hamid Mir . They do not have enough clout to guide that country in a peaceful way

India is and has been the shield of Asia preventing Islamic extremism from spreading to East and South East Asia . India should not entertain a dream of peaceful pakistan and let her guard down
