Youth and politics
by Aspee Desai on Sep 19, 2007 05:10 AM  Permalink

We are a rapidly progressing nation & seem to represent one of the most intelligent pool of professionals in all trades accross the world. However, at home we are victims to this corrupt and unreliable political leadership. The biggest problem in politics today, is entry of criminals instead of our educated youth. For eg, some local criminals enter politics, survive on haftas from slum dwellers and also use them as sureshot votebanks and readily get elected. The reason being the educated class is reluctant to vote and ignore an important civil responsibility. Indeed, the politicians that represent our communities, township, suburbs, cities and states are these criminals. We never voted for them yet they come to power and have made us victims of corruption, crimes, illegal constructions etc etc. We ourselves are responsible as we ignore our right to vote. Lets spread this awareness in educational & professional organisations and built a clean hormonious society, though the YUVA POWER!

Restore Preventive Inspections immediately!
by Galaxy Star on Jul 21, 2007 04:45 PM  Permalink

Mumbai cannot tackle the situation unless change of attitude is brought about on one side by repeated insistence and instantaneous heavy penalties and severe punishments without any court case on the other!
During olden days the authorities did undertake preventive actions besides the corrective actions. One of the primary preventive actions is elaborate arrangements for frequent inspections at various levels of the fields concerned! As a matter of fact, Inspection was the foremost action detailed by Govt., in olden days insisting upon them always! If inspection is carried out at different levels by the competent officers and staff, necessary actions can be taken prior to any type of failures totally avoiding any untoward accidents or failures assuring Bombayites of comfortable living!
Due to perhaps improved I.Q. such old preventive measures have been stopped by the top management, perhaps, by the increased M.B.A.s and other modern management experts resulting in total collapse of the system! The reason for such stoppage may be due to either total ignorance or inadequate knowledge about the system of the inspecting officer or staff, due to which they avoid such inspection which might expose their ignorance or inadequate knowledge of the working of the system before their subordinates, placing them under awful embarrassment!
Administration should immediately restore such inspections by every department of administration, technical, Railways, B.M.C., M.M.R.D.A., Electricity

Politicians should be be fixed by people of India !
by Galaxy Star on Jul 21, 2007 04:10 PM  Permalink

The politics are entirely responsible for such chaos not only in Mumbai but also in entire country!
It is the political circle who bring all favourable policies and actions towards corrupt and vested interests openly taking advantage of prevalent large scale illiteracy giving rise to ignorance which itself catalyses the terrorism!
Any wrong can be done and escaped without any punitive action for a consideration taking advantage of prevalent nasty judiciary!
The education system too have eroded as the presently graduating persons like I.A.S., I.P.S, and many others like M.B.A.,B.E/. M.B.B.S., and many others as the private corporate houses like L&T., H.D.F.C., ETC., have complained against the diminished qualities of M.B.A., Engineering.,B.Com., etc., to Mumbai University too some time ago!
Nothing works as every one does not work with any responsibility any where! It is every where chaos and mess and people's suffering has gone up like any thing!
The present U.P.A. has to be thrown out if at all the nation has to improve to attain at least the old better nation!
No inspection as the inspecting officials are not aware of what to inspect due to they being enlightened by their subordinates! Inspections at various levels are very essential as preventive action!

Too much population
by Sincere Citizen on Jul 10, 2007 01:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Too many people coming to Mumbai.
Too many slums and unauthorized constructions.
Too many buildings and noi open spaces.
Corruption and nepotism at all levels of administration.
Uncaring people who come to the city to only earn money at any cost.

If all of the above can be tackled Mumbai will change else go to hell.

Check the population influx into Mumbai
by arun mehta on Jul 06, 2007 05:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mumbai will not be killed by corruption or politicians it will be killed by the sheer weight of the influx of population entering the island from all directions(except sea)
The influx is maximum from Bihar and Uttarpradesh where highpopulation and low opportunity has makes them look for this financial mecca for survival. Each migrant entering the metro sends the success story to others back home and invites them to join. Each person adds to the fragile infrastructure including transport(read local trains)solid waste/ garbage and consequent monsoon disasters. Our Hon courts have passed orders on infrastructure gear-up but have yet to take up suo-moto action on population influx .It's the time bomb that will ultimately sink this city.Politicians will never raise this issue as they are getting additional captive vote banks for their own survival.

To tackle influx of migrants from the economically backward states, it would be essential to ensure honest and efficient governance in these states. When a state is governed by polticians who ruthlessly exploit public wealth and have no concern for the good of the common man, it results in chaotic
economic conditions. The states' industries suffer, its revenues plunge and economic policies fail. Consequently employment potential drops and the law & order situation
deteriorates.People are left with no alternate than to migrate to prosperous economic centers. Mumbai is by far, after Delhi, a popular destination for such migrants resulting
in far greater load on its infrastructure than was planned for.
Will Mumbai cope and survive thus is directly dependant on the dishonesty and inefficiency of these misgoverned states. In the long run, my optimism is clouded by the consistent appearance of politicians there who ought to be behind bars than at the reins of these unfortunate states.
