RE:Check the population influx into Mumbai
by Phaltu Uloo on Jul 09, 2007 05:00 PM

To tackle influx of migrants from the economically backward states, it would be essential to ensure honest and efficient governance in these states. When a state is governed by polticians who ruthlessly exploit public wealth and have no concern for the good of the common man, it results in chaotic
economic conditions. The states' industries suffer, its revenues plunge and economic policies fail. Consequently employment potential drops and the law & order situation
deteriorates.People are left with no alternate than to migrate to prosperous economic centers. Mumbai is by far, after Delhi, a popular destination for such migrants resulting
in far greater load on its infrastructure than was planned for.
Will Mumbai cope and survive thus is directly dependant on the dishonesty and inefficiency of these misgoverned states. In the long run, my optimism is clouded by the consistent appearance of politicians there who ought to be behind bars than at the reins of these unfortunate states.
