Looks like you havent been to Hyderabad
by Krishna on Jan 04, 2007 03:34 PM  Permalink

Compared to to us Hyderabadis, all the people you have described are angels. We Hyderabadis take the "Nawabi" Style very seriously, and beleive that the rest of humanity is there to serve us and clean up after us. Try driving in Hyderabad.

Timely article! Well written
by sandy on Jan 04, 2007 03:29 PM  Permalink

Whatever the writer has written is spot on. Due to the boom of low cost aircraft carriers, u get to see all kinds of people(who hitherto cudn't afford to) flying these days. And courtesy n civic sense has gone for a six. The way they grab eatables offered by the airhostess makes my stomach turn!! Lamentable indeed..India is surely the only country with 7% plus growth with the worst civic sense!

Fun of Flying
by Satish on Jan 04, 2007 03:29 PM  Permalink

I fully agree with you and empathize you, as i also feel the same (or more??) frustration while flying. Apart from this is the reckless use of mobile phones inside the aircraft. Barring when flying high, while take off or landing or in the runway, one can hear message beeps, phones being switched on, calls etc... Most of the passengers are neatly dressed and seem to be like a typical corporate citizen!!!!
It is really disguisting in such cases....
Its high time we become civilized

I agree with the author
by smartfool on Jan 04, 2007 03:29 PM  Permalink

There was a time when I used to enjoy flying. Now I do only if I have to. Fellow passesngers are RUDE. Even though the air crew repeatedly ask passengers to switch off their mobiles, they keep talking until the air-craft starts moving. Every time there is someone breaking the queue, throwing a paper napkin or an old tag on the floor etc. I can go on n on...

Flying is no fun anymore
by Sekhar R on Jan 04, 2007 03:20 PM  Permalink

Yes I totally agree. I think if you really want carefree travel, try travelling nowadays by I AC train (almost same fare as air) one can relax and not get hassled like we do now at airports. Maybe in present context we attach too much sanctity to airports and air travel - Indians are like this only! (airports or elsewhere)- Cheers!

No joy out of flying
by niki surabi on Jan 04, 2007 03:13 PM  Permalink

Every word you said is true.
Added to this is Deccan Air's great idea of not providing seat numbers. So there's a mad rush, each time their flights are announced for departure.
Cost saving & making it simple are O.K. but next we will probably have wait listed passengers who may be given the option of sitting on the floor & short haul passengers can even stand & travel.

I agree

Hi,

You have brought out a very valid point of view. I have on a number of occassions come across such an unbecoming behaviour. I did try to speakout and correct the situation but was awashed with the callous attitude of fellow citizens. In one incident I even came across a Japanese lady breaking lines and pushing her way through. I wonder if our attitude had rubbed off on her!

We must check this behaviour as and when we come across them even at the cost of looking like a world police.

Good Column
by Ankur on Jan 04, 2007 03:06 PM  Permalink

Agreed!
It was last night when I had to fly from Delhi to Bangalore; the Delhi airport terminal resembled more of a Railway Platform. The touts running to Traveller Shop charged me 30 bucks for a ballpen which isnt even worth 5!
The flights were delayed by more than 4 hours(understandble because of the fog); but the people in the crowd fail to understand the issues involved.

Last year out of the six flights i took; 3 got cancelled due to sudden reasons! I have had a bad experience of air travel in India...
