Pak puts off F-16 deal
by labrea on Sep 22, 2006 08:18 PM  Permalink

In India, people just talk, but do nothing! As for caring, well, the facts speak for themselves! At the very minimum, they must demand better enforcement of the existing laws, better training, equipment and pay for Park Rangers, and formation of civilian oversight groups to monitor wildlife programs. People should demand the Federal Govt emulate South Africa's successful wildlife reserve management system - this do-nothing-but-talk mentality of the state and federal govts is contemptible. Soon there will be no Asiatic lions left - a noted CM had said that people are more important than lions, so if they die who cares. And universities' involvement can make big a difference.

No Value for Life
by Simi on Sep 22, 2006 08:15 PM  Permalink

In a place where there is little value for human life, there is even lesser value placed on an animal's life. The solution...I don't know...how do you teach people to respect animals?

Do we care for our wildlife?
by Sunny Raghunath on Sep 22, 2006 05:35 PM  Permalink

In response to your question and the death of an elephant in Mumbai, which was hit by a speeding tanker, I have this to say: If we really care for our wildlife and helpless animals, the authorities must move to criminally prosecute and severely punish the driver and the owner of the speeding tanker, who are responsible for the tragic death of the elephant. Their act is as bad as manslaughter. Concerned citizens of Mumbai, with the help of the media, should ensure action as above. If action as suggested is not taken, it would only confirm that India and Indians are not concerned about their wildlife and the welfare of animals in general.

Do we care for our wildlife ?
by Capt. Ajay Puri on Sep 22, 2006 05:31 PM  Permalink

It is very strange that in our country which has plenty wildlife reserves and sanctuaries, wildlife is treated with utmost cruelity.
People throng to zoos to see the hapless captive animals, but same are killed in jungles for their skins or hair or feathers and none of the people object. In fact same are freely sold and all officials are hand in glove with the traders.
Steve Irwin , a wildlife activist, who recently died with the sting ray attack while filming ,was a real crusader of wildlife who made people believe on various channels be it National Geographic or Discovery Channels that wildlife itself is a beauty and gift of nature.Without wildlife it will be a concrete jungle where man will be slave of machines.
It is sad that we lost a very able wild life activist and wish that his torch should be held high.

Save the animals

The government should make some sort of effort to protect the wildlife as it is an important resource that are very vital to not only the earth but to us also for we cannot do without them

Irresponsible
by KANCHANA on Sep 22, 2006 04:59 PM  Permalink

No the government doesn't care for animals, if not its silly to see that an elephant is dead because there was no treatment.
And just previous week in news they found out, dead reptiles were being couriered.
I dont know who is taking initiatives to stop all these, if its not stopped, then in future we will have to show our kids only the pictures of animals.

It's sad...
by Chinmoy on Sep 22, 2006 04:46 PM  Permalink

This world would have been a much peaceful place, had there been only animals. It's us who make the so-called 'wild life" - not those dumb, innocent beings. It was sad to see the dead picture of the elephant - but the sight of a few people coming out in support did give some relief.
