Do we care for our wildlife?
by Sunny Raghunath on Sep 22, 2006 05:35 PM

In response to your question and the death of an elephant in Mumbai, which was hit by a speeding tanker, I have this to say: If we really care for our wildlife and helpless animals, the authorities must move to criminally prosecute and severely punish the driver and the owner of the speeding tanker, who are responsible for the tragic death of the elephant. Their act is as bad as manslaughter. Concerned citizens of Mumbai, with the help of the media, should ensure action as above. If action as suggested is not taken, it would only confirm that India and Indians are not concerned about their wildlife and the welfare of animals in general.
