Questionable ''trap''
by Naren on Oct 22, 2006 05:22 PM  Permalink

All the previous chat contents have to be scrutinised carefully. The authorities could have led them into a easy and greedy trap which any innocent mind could have found hard to resist.

Then they find themselves caught, panic and sign any papers to get out of the muddle. If the act is pardonable with a warning then maybe this needs to be done with psychological counselling aimed at remodelling their thoughts for creative and intellectual pursuits rather than labelling their image for a life time, for the wrong that was never done.

This way they themselves repent their actions and would be an example for other convicted pedophiles to change their acts.

You have got to be kidding me
by Silver Surfer on Oct 20, 2006 09:07 PM  Permalink

"The relatives of some victims also questioned the modus operandi of the authorities."
The author of this piece of tripe has the audacity to say that someone arrested for wanting to meet a child for sex is a VICTIM?? Luckily there were no victims in these arrests. Perverts. Wanna-be pedophiles. They do not deserve sympathy, nor do they deserve to be called "victims". They are human filth. They prey on the young, the defenseless. Thank God that there are people with the morals and integrity to protect the TRUE victims, the children.

Any adult who would declare a child predator a victim is in serious need of psychological help. Children who have suffered at the hands of sexual predators are sentenced to a lifetime of emotional pain and horror. Merely deporting someone after a light jail sentence for making the attempt to cause this type of suffering on a child is slap on the wrist.

Yes it's a small thing
by PK on Oct 19, 2006 11:01 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Because:

What is a minor? 17 yrs is minor and 18 is adult? Many teenage girls in this country not only look like adults, but behave and engage in adult activities. While sex without consent is rape and is definitely a crime; if a sex-starved student from India gets seduced by a so-called 17 year old girl online, and agrees/asks to meet her, it is a small thing. It's not like they have raped a 2 yr old girl. If I am a 23 yr old boy and have never been laid and if girls back home never even looked at me; and if a 17-yr old hot babe here makes advances, am I supposed to control myself knowing that it's not abnormal for minor girls to have sex here?????

It's like 'Stealing is crime. But if you put someone who is very hungry and has no money, in a food store, and nobody is watching, there is a good chance they will steal food. It's a small thing. But then you come and catch them and everybody starts shouting the thief should be hanged.... Come on guys. Get real. Get practical. Catch the real paedophiles.

Rather than wasting efforts on such programs, the goverment should focus on developing girls with good values.

So you place the blame on the children who get molested then? How convenient. How disgusting. Anyone who would assign blame to the victim is in serious need of therapy.

None of the children portrayed in these stings are 17, in fact most of the time they have been 14 and under, a FAR cry from being as mature as an 18yr old.

What children? what victims? I think you got too emotional and forgot that they were undercover cops, not victims. Even if they had been children, the whole thing was online, and that's not molestation. If a minor thinks she is being molested, all she has to do is stop chatting. Nobody was forcing these so-called 'minors' into adult chatting.

Seven Indians held in sex sting operation in California
by Dipanshu Mansingka on Oct 19, 2006 10:29 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am not aware how did they perform this operation.

Would also like to know how many Americans have been found in such crime. So that statistics can be compared. Is it just to spoil the name of India?

Rather then looking for people, rule should be applied at the level of organisations.

Becuase here only chat is taking place.

1. Lot of time people just chat casually.
2. Unknown people send requests to chat, which I deny.
3. On Yahoo messenger, there are chat rooms, people join those chat rooms and discuss rubbish.
4. The person infront who is chatting has a responsibility that if he/she is not of right age should not enter it.
5. There are so many profiles online which only hve id and do not have name, age, etc.
6. The rule should be at the level of companies to abandon such chat groups.

As it happens every where its the end user or customer who should be more aware and do not enter chat rooms of unknown people and also deny requests for chat from unknown people.

Dipanshu - No one ethnic group or race was targeted. Rather, the target is the child predator, no matter the race, age, sexual orientation, male or female. Those arrested have been from all walks of life, from all levels of society and from all ethnic backgrounds.

Laws in USA
by Kalai Selven on Oct 23, 2006 05:27 AM  Permalink
Dear Depanshu don't u look around? A famous , powerful, florida republican Senator Foley, had 2 resign & is facing inquiry because he sent messages 2 the page boys who were designated 2 help him.The law in the USA is for every one, even the rich & the mighty, & not for just the poor & un-influential ,like in our India!! Have u forgotton that Pres.Bill Clinton came very near 2 being impeached over what we indians may call a minor(Lewinsky) affair that almost all indian politicians are guilty of.So don't expose u're stupidity in public. We should b patriotic but not for the wrong reasons!

Rule to be adopted in India also
by Vandana on Oct 19, 2006 10:26 AM  Permalink

Sex offence should be treated a serious crime in India as well. At present, culprits remain wide and scotfree. They threaten and sometimes eliminate the victims of sex-abuse if they go against their threats. Many of the culprits are political leaders and have 'hold' in higher offices. Ministers also do the crime and they remain in office after they are caught. The American law is very good in this respect. A well known and powerful senator had to resign these days; he has no protection of any kind. He is treated as any other culprit. The law should be equal to all. The police should not protect the political villains.

Dateline NBC
by Natarajan Krishnan on Oct 19, 2006 09:48 AM  Permalink

"Dateline" a famous program sequence in NBC has been covering this offense for many years and telecasting the incidents repeatedly to create community awareness.

These students and professionals get addicted to internet chatting and have no time to live their lives.
Internet is a menace for these kind of people and they need proper advice.

Interestingly, during the programs in NBC I've watched few years back, a lot of professionals, ex-Army personnel, 50+ aged uncles were involved but the media men were not able to take any legal actions against them. I've seen on TV half nude men running away from the camera. Probably now they are taking legal actions because of the involvement of "Perverted Justice".

This is required for the community at large anyways and hopefully will bring many other "perverts" to the right track.

-Natarajan

indians held in sex sting
by praveen on Oct 19, 2006 08:52 AM  Permalink

Soliciting a minor is a heinous crime. Many of these students caught in the sting operation are not aware that any sexual behavior with a minor is a crime. Many students from India think girls in USA are very promiscuous and their act is ok. International student body at all the universities must definitely counsel them, educate about the law and especially solicitation of minors must be dealt with.

I watched these episodes
by Kavita on Oct 19, 2006 08:34 AM  Permalink

I watched the episodes where they caught these Indians, and I must say,I cringed at the thought that these excuses for human beings were from India. They were actually apologising to the host after being caught on camera.. "Please Sir, it was a mistake. Will not happen. I am looking into your eyes and asking you to frgive me".

It was disgusting to watch them grovel and even more disgusting to watch the excerpts of their chat conversations with the minors.

No way are they innocent. Even an intent to abuse a child whether taken to conclusion or not, deserves severe punishment.

small thing!
by Madhu Rao on Oct 19, 2006 08:04 AM  Permalink

This statement is disgusting. How can somebody substantiate such a act of disrepute saying small thing!.
Visa of these Indians should be cancelled, their employers should be pulled up, and deported out of US, permanently. Only then others who are out of the net by luck, stay away from these.
