When a city has started its recognition in the world map, it should not take such risks. Does this change means that all foreign companies should start to communicate in Kannada?
I dont understand what this politician try to prove? renaming this cities will not et al benefit any of us, instead it will create confusions in the mind of people, atleast spare Banglore coz its a global city and lotsa people from all over the world r connected to this beautiful southern city of India.
What the state government is trying to do is ridiculous. Bangalore when spoken in kannada is anyways called Bengaluru. I guess they should spend more time in improving infrastructure than in changing boards.
i think its a good move....each place should reflect its language....if Bombay and Calcutta can be Mumbai and Kolkatta...then why not Bangalore as 'Bengalooru'
To change name from Bangalore to Bangalooru is no doubt a novel attempt to erase our memory of our colonial past. Calcutta was changed to Kolkata, Bombay was changed to Mumbai and Madras was changed to Chennai. So why not Bangalore to Bangalooru ,alongwith Mysuru from Mysore, Mangalooru from Mangalore, Shivamogga from Shimoga, Tumakuru from Tumkur, Kolara from Kolar, Haasana from Hassan, Rayachuru from Raichur and Belagavi from Belgaum? What can be a better way to pay respect to U R Ananth Murthy ? However, the question will this really erase our slavish attitude? After, almost two centuries of British "Raj", is this sort of gimick going to work? What good would it serve to appropriate names of places and be slaves to the modern counterparts of our erstwhile colonial powers i.e. NEOCOLONIAL MULTINATIONALS ?
Bangalore or Bangalooru, does it make any difference? Will Bangalooru have better infrastructure, better traffic mangaement, lesser crime rate, better economic growth? Will Bangalooru be a better international brand than Bangalore? If the answer is in affirmation then let's go for it.But if this is just an opportunity to mint more money, promote regionalism, make Bangalooru more kannada than Indian, then let's re-think.Bangalore is on global map,can Bangalooru effectively swap that?Mumbai or Bombay,Patna or Patliputra whatever may be the name, the conditions remain the same...What's in the name!Bangalore needs better brand mangement, better infra, better traffic mangement, better police mangement. If Bangalooru can achieve it then we should have changed it much earlier.Let's think growth, think big, think brand, think better. If Bangalooru has in it what Bangalore did not have, rename it.But I think that there are other better things to take care than just rechristening the city.I think that this is a needless step which will shift the focus from more relevant issues.Do not just change the name, change the city as well...off course for GOOD.
Time and again our political representatives have to give a naked display of their incompetence and inadequacy as people who failed to make a difference to India. This change will demonstrate to the world that our country's politicians are still nurturing a useless vendetta against the colonial times. WHAT A PITY!
India needs to be a STRONG GLOBAL ECONOMY, where the citizens are LITERATE, who UNDERSTAND, CONTRIBUTE and OPERATE the nation's machinery. A literate and economically powerful nation is what is required. India needs to stand up and implement the actions that make a remarkable contribution to lifting the standards of the average Indian citizen. The selection of nation-wide and state-wide programmes and initiatives needs to be aligned with what makes a real TANGIBLE contribution, not some nonsensical whims and fancy ideas of a retard politician who has no clue and no vision of the state's current and future situation. It is obvious now that the people behind this ridiculous move are totally disconnected from the real efforts required to shun the colonial garb.
