do these things still go on ?
by crazyman on Jan 17, 2006 08:20 PM  Permalink

maybe there is a quieter way this could have been done. it is not pleasant to be told that god requires purification from someone who came to worship him.

maybe the temple authorities need to make people aware of this; god might answer your prayers to get elected, but he can be as narrow-mided as his temple priests if you wante to visit him to say thanks.

so keep a respectful distance; old traditions live

shame
by Shriram Iyer on Jan 17, 2006 04:38 PM  Permalink

what a shame! are we living in 21st century? what religious dogma are we folowing that debars people of only select faith to enter the Guruvayoor Temple.
By denying entry of people of Christian and other faiths, the respected image of Hinduism has only been tarnished.
I do not think any God anywhere bars people from entering his place of worship. It is these so called priests who have created this scenario.

As a Hindu, I hang my head in shame!

Sheer Stupidity
by Puneet Pahuja on Jan 17, 2006 04:26 PM  Permalink

This is ridiculous on the part of the so called 'priests' of the temple to bar people from other faiths to enter the temple. In actual, these priests donot deserve the post which they are occupying. In the eyes of LORD everyone is equal. He doesnot discriminate between the humans on the basis or caste or religion. In the Holy Gita, the Lord says that He is the Father of ALL human beings, irrespective of his or her caste or creed and everyone in this world has right to pray Him. These so called priests are the bane of Hinduism, the greatest and most peaceful religion on earth.

Sriranthi Rajapakse's visit to Guruvayoor
by K. Mallick on Jan 17, 2006 03:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is a great pity that the devotion of a devotee to her Lord is denied by mere mortals. If we in India believe the philosophy of 'Ahamsmi' and that every human being is God, where does the religion play a role. Revered Chennas Ramana Namboodiripad will, in fact, commit a grave crime by denying a devotee to say her prayers. 'The Lord doesn't stay in the wood, in the stone, nor in the earthen idol, but in the feelings of the devotees ....' is our age-old concept. Let madam Srisanthi feel happy and peaceful after her holy darsan of Lord Krishna at Guruvayoor. If the Lord didn't deny her His sacred darsan, who on earth can deny her His darsan !!!
Let not the great Indian tradition and Hindu philosophy be caged by a few individuals any more.

Mr ss,

What do you mean when you say that buddhism and jainism are hindu? They were the ones who rebelled against the vedic system and formed non vedic sects.By your own logic they are also non hindus.I have nothing against any relegion but iam just presenting my views to everyone

The example set by Tirupati is the best. Here anybody is free to visit the temple. It will also aid in making hinduism popular

religion
by ss on Jan 17, 2006 03:35 PM  Permalink

Every religion has the right to decide about policies regarding places of worship.Hinduism,a very tolerant religion is no exception.I don't see why the rights of the religion is being questioned. In the article,it seemed as though Iype takes offence at the fact that christians are not allowed in the temple precincts unlike budhists and jains(all the qouted characters are christians).Budhism and jainism have sprouted from hinduism unlike other religions.I don't understand why the followers of other religion need to go to hindu temples at all.
As far as Yesudas goes he sings songs for his benefit not for the Hindus or Krishna. That doesn't make him any less of a Christian either.Articles should be written to make sense not just to kick up the religious frenzy that is prominent in the field now.Rediff I think doesn't need that kind of popularity.

by bupinder on Jan 17, 2006 03:11 PM  Permalink

i am also a hindu brahmin.am i think i am well aware at our religious philosophies.in our texts it is nowhere mentioned that a person from other caste cant enter a temple.these are the laws creatyed by these bloody selfish so called pujaries for their own vested interests.they dont know our religion at all.some hindus are also indulged in sins but can they enter temples.? i want that such priests to be punished as due to these bloody self made laws our religion is defamed and has given a cause for emergence of other sects.

Absurd
by Aby on Jan 17, 2006 02:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Being a christian, I've entered this temple a no. of times. I attended my friend's marriage at Guruvayur & went to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple before I left the place. Also there are a lot of non hindus who enter this temple everyday. If cleansing is to be done, the temple will have to remain closed for ever. This is absurd that celebrities who follow a different religious path will always be tracked & lot of hue & cry is made over the issue. God who created all men & women as equals will not be happy with such a unthinkable tradition followed at this temple.

Absurd indeed
Let's hope one day there will be a black or Indian pope.

Let's also hope that christians around the world will not have a blue eyed blonde jesus in their homes. Last time I visited my Malayalee Christian friend's home, he has a blue eyed blonde Jesus on the wall. Think about it, real jesus who was born in southern Iraq could have had that complexion??

TEMPLE IN UPHEAVEL OVER LANKAN LADY
by BEENA on Jan 17, 2006 02:55 PM  Permalink

It's high time, we indian got over all these superstitious believe. I firmly believe that a place of worship cannot be banned for entry for any human race. this itself is a sin.

Its better if we start cleansing our deeds instead of cleaning the temple after the visit of non-hindu's in the temple.

bad temple rules
by Omprakash on Jan 17, 2006 02:30 PM  Permalink

God is same for all, whether the person is cristian or hindu. the news itself made me so ashamed that it is not open to all. and the priest of the temple is asking for the person's religion means this is shame to the god. what else to tell. and people are making this as the news issue. what a great thing to think.

Temple in upheaval!
by bala Iyer on Jan 17, 2006 02:22 PM  Permalink

How short sighted can people be? Does the creator create mankind by their religion? If GOD is one as we claim who is omnipotent/omniscient/omnipresent has no shape/form/colour/size/religion care about this trivial issue as to what faith or religion one belongs?
When one is tranfused with blood after an accident or surgery do we question as to whom the blood belonged?
For heaven's sake let's avoid getting into these stupid issues.
