WHAT do you mean by " If I wasn't lucky enough to clear a few entrance exams, I could possibly be working there too." .. Please clarify .. because it seems to me that ur trying to say only people with NO brains and those who don't get jobs anywhere else get into a Call centre...
This is not a Stop ga arrangment pal ... there are so many of us who have made sucessful careers in the BPO industry ... and that is quite an achivement considering how cometitive this sector is ... So please think before you go around shooting statements like that

u have written a different novel. i like ur style for creating suspense, activness. i'll be more happy if u write on the loyality. the youth of today needs someone to make them aware of the condition of india. i have some realistic story........ or u can have some ideas for a young lad joined army ... either for country or for family/....... i like the way u write and the msz u can give to india. u r popular among the indian youths but every youth have some story....
Referring to your answer in the interview about your concerns for India & young Indians working in call centres in India, have the following questions for you to answer...
1)What is your definition of meaningful work that the youth need to do?
2)Considering the fact that most of these jobs were being previously done by Americans/Europeans does that mean that the past generation of these nations were upto no meaningful work ??
3)Your dream for India is very honourable.....& you would like all Indians to work towards that end,How about including yourself in that list??
4)You hold a public platform Mr.Bhagat so your critisism is taken seriously. Can you afford to just point out the lacunas without providing for solutions?
5)What do the remaining youth of the nation do who are not destined for IITs/IIMs/Other professional courses?
6)Is it also a solution if the IITians/IIMians go abroad to work in multinationals ??
I am sure Mr. Bhagat if you can provide us with answers to these ,I shall quit this job at the call centre, & am sure will be able to influence many more.
Boss its your problem you coundt make it big in that center, i started my career at a call center and strugged to make away out for me in an MNC as AVP and i never cursed that call center, why should i cause they gave me a break and money for survical when i needed it most..
My qualification is also not that huge, lator on I strated accumulatinng more degrees and even could complete MBA (DAY time) becuase of this job..
But i must say ur book was good,. u shd think of making a good career in writing ... improve your english a bit i mean to say fine tune it for becomeing a better writer ...:)
guess u took One Night @ A Call Centre a bit too personally .. look at the larger picture - u r an AVP today ..
every call centre agent faces multiple pressure points - odd work timings, doing the same repetitive job, little job satisfaction, 'split' personality (dealing with foreign customers often means a different identity), strict daily targets, cultural clash and career growth can drive an individual crazy..
ONCC doesnt talk abt an isolated situation, it talks about the life of hundreds of thousands of BPO workers in general ..
a lot of young BPO workers today r losing control over their lives and straying into drugs, crime, unfettered promiscuity, severe suicidal tendencies and eventual depression - u r from the industry, don't u agree to these facts ???? ..
fortunately, a lot of BPO companies have now realized the side-effects of excess stress and the so-called plush lifestyles and r taking corrective measures to make their offices a better place to work .. and the way our economy's growing, perhaps we will have more MNCs investing in the country by outsourcing their back office operations ..
ONCC is a work of fiction that needs to be tasted, not consumed .. when u want to sell a product, u need to package it well .. i think that's exactly what chetan has done and has done it pretty well ..
so then dude, take a chill pill! sit back and enjoy ONCC .. it's definitely worth a praise! ..
One read Chetan's interview, which reflected what all national's want for their nations- prosperity! The heart is surely in the right place, though both his books are of poor quality.
chetan bhagat's work on a BPO industry is a pathetic one . I really pity him as after spending so much time writing this book he never realized that BPO is the only industry which provides such a working environment, compensation and growth. I am happy that he is not a part of this industry and is happy in his own sweet world thinking that he is better. Poor Guy . Wake up Buddy and face the reality. Your qualification do not match with your maturity level. Writing is the best carrer for you as any other organisation will not like to see you on their payrolls.
i shifted to a call centre job after working in corporate sector for years.
bpos i guess will have the respect of corporate sector for the foll reasons:
1. unlike corporates bpos treat their employees like robots. one is expected to perform every minute. ahts, bio-breaks, u name it, u r identified by numbers such as these.
2. most of the bpos have ladies dressing up like call girls something which will never be tolerated by corporates even on their casual days
3. most of the managers in bpos are under the age of 30, resulting in immature decision making(ask a corporate guy why he specifies 40 - 55 age group for sr.managers). they have the wisodm of age on their side something unheard of in the bpo sector
4. they expect indians to be "americans" or "british" overnight by conducting silly sessions in their training classes(u should see some of the sessions to believe it)
Well, Mr. Chetan Bhagat showed the other side of IITs. We are also waiting for the other side of IIMs. As it is too much craze is there now-a-days for IIMs
