Disappointed by the incident
by Chirag Majmundar on Dec 21, 2006 02:51 AM  Permalink

I am highly disappointed by the behaviour and the approach of the Indian officials. When their parents are Indian citizen and are asked no questions, at least it is expected to give some time to prove their selves.

There is no question of TAKING STAND in this case. And if there are adult ppl, it is lil rational but with kids.... This is irrational.

People in India should understand that the boom in INDIA is because of the people who are wokring far from the home and sending money back to India. I storngly recommend to respect NRIs and take their contribution into account.

This is not taking stand but this is BEING RIGID and HARASS NRIs. I have heard lot many cases where whether you have anything access or illegal or not, you have to pay MONEY to airport authorities and its corrupted officers. STOP THIS, before NRIs think that they are not respected in their countries where corruption is beyond the limits.

mumbai immigration deports kids !
by Madhu on Dec 21, 2006 02:49 AM  Permalink

What is baffling is how can vijay and vaishali forget to take the visas? Just too incredible to believe ! Keeping the visas and passports in your wallet is the first thing we do before we board a flight. I have travelled to India many times. Each time the visa and passport is checked thoroughly at all airports in USA. I have travelled from Chicago, New Jersey and Dallas to India. So, what is beyond my understanding is how could the couple 'forget something like a visa of their children.
However, my sympathies are with the couple and I can very well understand the 'agony' the entire family has undergone. Anyway, do take this as a bitter lesson and be careful in your future trips to India.
Madhu.

by Raghavendra Melgiri on Dec 21, 2006 02:49 AM  Permalink

Its really same story with all Indians or NRI's everyone has experienced cruel and non-humanity behavior of all state and government official in India and abroad. In my experience I called Indian embassy in canada just to ask on clarification about my son's passport renewal fees the resopnse given by an official was such a rude I coud't continue talking with him.

Perpetrators MUST be punished severely
by Pravin on Dec 21, 2006 02:45 AM  Permalink

Kids, like mine, of Indian parents are readily given PIO(Person Of Indian Origin) cards if they happen to be foreign nationals by birth. I see no reason why these kids could not have been given a transit visa.

This is a clear abuse of children who were U.S. nationals. This is a federal crime in US punishable by non-bailable jail time. Vijay and Vaishali should lodge a complain in the US for this and I can guarantee you that the US prosecutors will follow this up with the Indian authorities. US prosecutors are known to get people punished in foreign countries for abusing U.S. children and Vijay and Vaishali should follow that route to get justice if they can prove that the kids were traumatized by this experience.

We should understand that this issue is no longer immigration. It is the intentional abuse of children. Providing a transit visa or not is the decision of the Immigration official, however discriminatory in this case, but mistreatment of kids is where they crossed the line. They could have always been taken into custody and treated well until they recovered from their inbound journey before putting them on the return flight.

Definitely the officials should have relented in this case
by Sam K on Dec 21, 2006 02:36 AM  Permalink

Considering the children's age, the officials could

have relented in this case. I cannot believe that

they would deport the children so callously. They

could have atleast allowed the children to stay at

the airport until the documents could be faxed.

You would expect human beings to extend basic

courtesy towards other human beings - if not public

service.

Mumbai immigration deports kids!
by Rao on Dec 21, 2006 02:35 AM  Permalink

I'm so sorry for your situation, But you should take care of all documents before you leave. How come a guy who stays in USA for Decade forget what documents needed for travel?

However its so bad that officials didn't give much time for you and you need understand their situation too.

Callous parents
by Ananth on Dec 21, 2006 02:34 AM  Permalink

This is like a parent on H1 and the kid born in india is being taken to US w/o a visa for the kid. How can you forget to get a visa.Instead of being ashamed and being sorry they have manged to potray that Indian Immigration authorities are bad.We as NRI's dont even pay tax(atleast most of them) and expect to find a spot in the airport thats built by taxpaying indian - atleast that's how it would be viewed here.hey i had the worst interrogation by US immigration officer and considering i had a GC it should have been a no brainer. Please quit complaining and dont make it a racial one. It also shows that we are not ready to accept a law in India and have scant respect. The sad part is the 2 kids will grow up with a bad taste for India.Way to go parents!!

Mumbai immigration
by Srikrishna on Dec 21, 2006 02:33 AM  Permalink

This is inhuman man. I think the people should think about other human beings and feelings. I know everyone is not like that. What are they thinking, we bost ourselves as IT destination and they can not even check their computer and see the details. It is ashame that a citizen is treated like that.

Can this be published in all newspapers. I suggest, we all should take some time to shoot some emails other newspaper editors. January is pravas-divas (pardon me for my spelling) happening in india and this issue needs little attention.
