This is not the only incident of of this kind. Every other day we hear such incidents the way people are being treated at different airports. I live in canada and know many indians who will swear by God not to visit India again after visiting once. One can come across this type of behaviour in every government office.
Both their parents, I assume, are educated and should know that the Visa rules. They say they lived in US for quite sometime. If you are pulled over for a traffic ticket how many times have the cops listened to you and let you go? You happily say thank you and pay the fine or contest the ticket in court.
What baffles me is that the same people, when they go to India behave as if they need special treatment.
Guys dont have to blame the officials for you incompetence as parents. And the "French national" story line....was that added to spice up your story......
This is one of the most emotional and tragic stories. How can some one not give an hour or two for gettting the documents. Indian immigration has become so corrupted and unimaginably out of the hands that only a ture leader can save it now. If this is the treatment we receive from our own motherland then who to blame if we NRIs refuse to help, if asked for our country. Things do go wront..things happen..after all its life. But if there is away to correct it then the opportunity must be given to do so. I sincerely hope that immigration officer is brought to justice and suspended. Moreover the senior officials must be questioned for allowing this to happen.
As the days pass and such new incidents happen i care less and less for my own country. Dont get me wrong, i love my motherland..its the ppl i hate, who are making everybodys vacations a nightmare.
1) Did you forget to take any of your papers when you came to USA 9 years ago? 2) Do you forget your Credit Card/ Driver's License or Photo ID while moving aournd in Boston? 3) Do you forget to pay your bills in USA? 4) Do you ever miss your kids' appointment to Doctor in USA?
Well, accept your own mistake. I can understand your suffering but don't put its blame on others. Be responsible and teach your children to be so. Atleast, don't feed their vulnerable minds with misgivings towards India, and that to for your own fault.
I really appreciate the honesty of Mumbai officials. The parents showed energy to publish this story in newspaper but they forgot to carry Indian visa. Will they travel to India or France without visa? India will change when each of her citizen changes the attitude. Accept your mistakes. Go back, bring your kids' visa and enter lawfully. It has nothing to do with French guy.
"Their sons are born in the US and hence,American citizens."
They are American citizens because their parents chose them to be and not just because they were born there.
"I feel ashamed of being an Indian"
Yep and I am sure you and your wife are mugging up questions for your citizenship test.
"The children are very upset. The elder son questions the behaviour of people in India"
Tell them thats why Mommy and Daddy defected in the first place.
The whole article is a big rant by Mommy and Daddy who missed a little detail in their travel planning. And now its everybody elses fault.Air France did not check our visa, how can a airport function without senior official, how to promote tourism and yeah the everready racist card.
Imgr people are no saint and can do a lot to improve.Taking laxative at night for their constipated poker faces would be a good place to start. Then not vandalizing passport to extort money later would also be nice. But in this case I believe they were within their right to do what they did.Daddy screwed up kids payed the price hopefully everyone is wiser now.
Whats the deal with this French dude breaks the law gets a visa and bad mouths India.Screw You Monsieur.
I am sorry to learn about your pain Mr and Mrs Vijay. But the officer was right in delivering his duty. You said that you are ashamed of being India.. That is obvious as you have taken "Green Card". What would happen to me if I enter "your country" (USA) which are so proud, without visa? I believe the officer was fair and he did the right thing.
I really feel sorry for what happened. One thing that struck me is that the family should have contacted the U.S. embassy. Since the kids are U.S. citizens they would have taken it in their interest to make sure the request for wait until the documents arrived is granted. They go to real high levels to protect their citizens whoever it may be, especially if they are in a foreign country. Certainly something the Indian immigration officers can learn from.
