Indo-US agreement
by Prakash on Aug 28, 2006 12:28 PM  Permalink

Mr. Prasad, you are right.
We cant be a colony of US.
We have not won freedom for nothing.
Now US cant be given status of colonial king.
If US is for democracy, and has looked up to India on this, then they could behave and expect better functioning.
Are they wanting colonisation because they are feeling diffident of the world and USA`s control nay existence ?
Lets be human.
Lets foster democracy, especially since Indian democracy has sustained thus far very well.
Does US think that India`s finger on the nuclear button is not safe ?
Let them remember that this is the land of the GANDHI, BUDHA, VINOBHA BHAVE, RAMAKRISHNA PARAMAHAMSA, VIVEKANANDA, RAJAGOPALACHARI, RADHAKRISHNAN etc., just like the US is the land of the LINCOLN, LUTHER KING and many such greats.
A few hawks that the US sees in India are IN A MINISCULE MINORITY and vanishing if not already vanished.
Also India and Indians salute US for such forthrightness in the past and expect any other behaviour/attitude as a surprising digression/deteriration of lofty principles on which the great USA is based.
FREEDOM, EQUALITY, and JUSTICE are the tenets that shine in the `STARS AND STRIPES`, not anything else.

India is not a pushover
by k k vaisoha on Aug 28, 2006 11:18 AM  Permalink

We certainly need to cultivate good relations with US but not at Indias peril.

Australia has the largest source of uranium supply and Australia has made it clear that till India signs NPT, Australia will not allow any uranium supplies to India from Australia. This point is being repeatedly missed in the N-deal with US. It is thus clear that this deal with US is only for N-disarming of India. Our PM is fooling India by cooking up imaginary benefits for India which are totally ghost and will not be available to India.

Since the PM has no understanding of the N-deal, he needs to go by the advice of experts and not make it his own prestige issue. It is a disastrous deal on all accounts and there are no advantages which exist only in PMs imagination. It is just anti-India.

We have a lot in common with US and we are natural allies for US but US is propelled by its desire to remain only Super Power in the world where India is seen as a competitor by US and not as a desirable natural ally.

Let our PM show some wisdom and call off the deal at once.

Let us not fool ourselves!
by Ashu on Aug 28, 2006 10:41 AM  Permalink

When was it USA proclaimed that they are our friends? Only we have
been fooling ourselves! Then why to blame the US. We cannot expect
the cat to enact laws for the safety of the mice.

Cheers

India-U S Nuclear Deal
by Rajesh Vyas on Aug 28, 2006 10:39 AM  Permalink

Sir:

Not withstanding the Prime Minister's reply in the Rajya Sabha and the assurances given by him to the esteemed Nuclea Scientists, the government will still short sell India to the U S on this issue. It is inlikely bthat the US Congress will budge from the amended legislation they have passed in the lower house i. e. The house of Rrepresentatives. The sloe super power will bulldoze Inida into accepting the additional condtions and the Government of India will meekly accept all of them after making a feeble protest.

The work of our esteemed and hard working nuclear scientist will then go down the drain. The Indian Governments of all dispensations and composition are in some terrible awe of the United States and will accept all kinds if discrimanatory laws passed by the U S Congress. The U S wants to deprive India of the nuclear detterent and Manmohan Singh will be a party to this unfair law. Needless to say, India will never be granted the coveted status of a Global Nuclear Power. Our scientists will always get the short end od the stick, if at all and/or if any.

''India is not a Pushver''
by sunil on Aug 28, 2006 10:05 AM  Permalink

Dear Sir:

I agree with what are saying, and one thing I am unable to understand, why is the public opinion not taken into consideration prior to taking decisions such as these? Does it mean that politics is just gambling, we having elected them and they can do whatever they like till they complete the five-year tenure? Why not a opinion poll comprising educated elites, industrialists, defense and police personnel are given a chance to give their mandate before taking such an important decision like this? I think people like you should start some forums and associations to voluntarily present your thoughts and build pressure on governments to prevent taking important decisions like these without taking people into confidence.

Thank you.

India should nto sign sensitive agreements with any one for anything.
by Vishwanath Dhokre on Aug 28, 2006 09:24 AM  Permalink

It is quite likely that our PM may be signing a sellout to the superpower, bringing us back to the bad old days when our forefathers fought for freeedom from the Britishers. Is history repeating itself with the dangerous liason.? It is time to drop the so called agreement like a hot potato before it busrns the entire nation.I pray and hope that the PM and the congress do not indulge themselves in nation trading despite the assurances which do not look solid. May God protect our mother India from hegemony and hegemonistics.

Indian Scientist wake-up call!
by Dharmendra Goel on Aug 27, 2006 01:26 PM  Permalink

PKl. 27th Aug. 2006, Sunday.
I have during last few weeks railed against the unsatisfactory character of Indo US Nuclear Agreement
inasmuch as it discrimates against so called Nuclear -Weapons five haves against poor relations such as Indians , and diffrential IAEA inspection guidelines and slew of restrictions imposed by US laws against nuclear technology related imports to non-Nuclear Weapon states like India..But that is US prerogative...
What rightly Dr AN Prasd aptly underlines that Indian Nuclear Sdcientist should be encouraged and supported to quicken the pace of Thorium technologies which we have in plentiful bulk.D. Goel

How can you trust the politicians?
by Jatin Patel on Aug 27, 2006 09:03 AM  Permalink

Congress has tendency to do whatever it takes to stay in power from Nehru (allowed pak occupation of J&K, allowed india to china) Madam Gandhi (corruption, SC/ST/OBC, 77 crisis, golden temple) to Rajiv Gandhi (Bofors, more SC/ST/OBC, more corruption). And now the hybrid version of congress with last sell out to mullahs dream of moghulisthan. What will they do?? They will sell india, dignity of indians to white skin, and indian land to moghulistani dream.
Trust needs to be earned. What has current sardar mohan singh administration done that you can trust him. These people have done nothing for india since 1947, except replacing british empire with corrupt india. Until the corrupt mafias perform catharsis of parliament, they need to earn trust of indian voter, tax-payer, whom they take granted with election manisfesto, which never gets accomplished. I have no hopes from sardar mohans and his mafia ministers like lalu, chidambaram and the entire company.
Go and work hard for indians you suckers. Generate hydro-electricity, link rivers, roads, airways, provide clean water and housing before nuke dreams over pakistani air space.
