Ban the tought of teaching Morality
by Keshav Dixit on Apr 13, 2006 09:31 AM  Permalink

Let the so called reps of the people elected as governing and opposing members, understand that the Indian People have a very strong cultural heritage of thousands of centuries and don't need these jokers to teach morality, what is good and what is bad to those who know it very well.Instead let theme concentrate on their moral obligation as elected reps to look after the basic needs of people which are woefully lacking. Still people in this country struggle for 2 squre meals, drinking water and sanitation. Farmers commit suicide and a Medha Patkar is starving for a segment of these people whose basic reason for the struggle is the immorality of the governments.

Dance Bars.
by Sebastian.P.G. on Apr 13, 2006 09:29 AM  Permalink

The Bombay high courts decision to ban dance bars at various places is 100% welcomed, it would surely bring curb to the immoralities practised in cities, as behind the doors in the name of bar. It should be promoted as it will help in keeping the different kind of people who become deceased because of increased immoral practices.

With regards,
Sebastian

Gross Violation of Individual Rights
by Thomas on Apr 13, 2006 12:31 AM  Permalink

The move to ban dance bars on some whimsical grounds by politicians is a gross violation of individual rights and should be opposed by all the civil society. I personally do not know or bother what they do is morally degrading or not but I know one thing for sure in south India and many other parts of India prostitution was a regular phenomenon in temples under the garb of religion . Bhartnatyam, and the related dance forms are the modified dance of prostitutes - the great classics of India.
Bannign dance bars is the worst encroachment on human rights and the civil society should give a dumb ear to this.

News- just for the sake of news
by Anil Kale on Apr 12, 2006 07:45 PM  Permalink

In the news about lifting of ban on dance bars, the news item is such a fraud as it never mentions the reson why the ban was lifted? what are court's observations on same. Was the issue itself wrong? Was the implementation not correct? or was it due some technical fault in issue of ordnance.
If such details are included, they would have more news value & interest. Will rediff please look in this & improve quality of news.

Thanks

Dance Bars
by Vijay Veerla on Apr 12, 2006 07:43 PM  Permalink

This is very good judgement. The lack of judgement as a
ministry by Vilasrao and R.R.Patil got their slap.

Giving entertainment, subject to public order, is a normal activity
in all parts of the world. Legislating on moral issues is very
special to Maharastra. Many women lost their livelihood and this
was publicised very much in the west and UK in particular.
Instead of improving the living standards and worrying about
suicides of farmers, these Maha wonks are legislating on these
trivial matters. Nobody surmised whether these guys failed to
get thier haftas and therefore brought in the ban.

I was shocked when I went to see a movie in Bombay. To my
horror they played national anthem and we all are supposed to
stand like statues for those few minutes. I felt I was in North
Korea where this sense of circumstance does not deter you from
singing paens to the Dear Leader and Communism. Watching
movie is a pastime and inserting this scheduel of national
anthem in senseless. By the way, I am as nationalist as Bal
Thackeray but this practice is utterly senseless. But as this is
Maharastra, they can do what they like.

Bombay dance bar girls plight
by sbhujanga on Apr 12, 2006 07:42 PM  Permalink

It is a shame on the part of all Maharashtrian Govrnments that governed the sate so far. No government attempted to resolve the issue and provide an amicable living condition. The bars and the dancing in bars has been encouraged and supported from government to government since decades though not directly.Today tagging these girls in the catagory of prostitutes is act of shame. When the ban was imposed did the government machinery showed any preparedness to rehabilitate them properly. What compensation do the administration pay now for the affected.Doing an injustice first and later pretending to do the justice is no administration.Though by cultural values such bars are not welcome, the administration having neglected this problem and having encouraged all these years should at least find some means so that these girls realise and make an honourable living.

Hypocrisy on the part of government
by Amol Desai on Apr 12, 2006 07:05 PM  Permalink

For once the ban on this evil is established by the government, why the High court or any other institution should question the validity? There are millions of common people in Maharashtra to be targeted by this Dance Bars for their trade. Does the Dance Bars contribute for anything in the civil/social development... then why lift the ban for a minor percentage of the state's citizens. The Bar owners and their organisations have already taken the people for a ride through many years, with their flourishing Bar Restaurants.... when will they end their greed ? Dance Bars have done more harm than they are publicised to to good by the Bar associations and NGOs. It seems that the High court too is being taken for a ride....
