It has been quite apparant that US (their Govt.) is playing double standards with India from a long time. It is high time that our leaders realize this and work towards being a totally independent power. Whats lacking? We have the brain (even after many people run away from their motherland in pursuit of useless glamour). We can solicit financial support (if need be) from trustworthy friends. We can prove (as we've done in the past) that we can bring any problem down to its knees. Once it becomes apparant that we are making ourselves self-reliable, a cold shiver will run down USA's spine and they will try to win our confidence using all acrobatics they know. It is then that they will treat you with equal respect.
These American dip. are like dogs. They tease you even more when you appear scared of them or give them too much humble attention, but when you shoo them away, they turn their tails inwards and turn around.
The best thing would be to let the Defence take its own decisions (to maximum extent). Let them require premission only to launch a nuke war.
Ms. Kanchan Gupta has beautifully illustrated the attitude of US towards India and vice versa. One thing that is often taught in the business of life is that respect is not asked for/ begged but earnt. Any nation that seriously respects itself would first enter the world of realpolitik and not depend on moralities to protect its interests. This cannot be illustrated any better than the US foreign policy which essentially puts US first. I have read earlier about a US statesman quipping that the "US foreign policy is devoted to ensuring continuity to the current situation of allocation of over 50% of the world's resources to the US populace which constitutes 9% of the world". The current sale is primarily candy for Pakis and jobs for US.
In politics promises are made to be broken and morality only places the nation at a loss. If we really did learn from history(which our Nehruvian politicians, damn them, never seem to) we'd quit making the peace overtures and reciprocate in a manner intolerable to Pakis their act of fomenting trouble in India.
India is a big country and should act it's stature. Groveling never bought respect to the Greeks, Romans or Germans and so will it for India
I heard a story in my childhood about two monkeys quarrelling over a "chapati" (flat bread) and a third one, very shrewd and cunning than the other two, took the advantage, rather opportunity, to eat it up all leaving the two purplexed, and hungry.
That is what happening with india and pakistan. US is making full use of all the opportunities to extract as most as it can. But poor rivals will not left with anything finally. Dont know when the things will settle down and when the people will be more open minded.
The issue between india and pakistan is between india and pakistan only. Let it be between us. Why should we give others opportunities to make full use the situation and make fool us everytime by their shrewd and selfish politics. I appreciate to take help of a third party who is neutral in the issue and not seeking any profit out of it.
It is good to have relationship with other nations whatever it may be, but make a notice that it is not interfering into the internal politics and affairs, and not jeopardising our self-respect and prejudice.
Dear Kanachan ji, There is somebody in the opportunists journalism community who has risen above the ordinary. Your thoughts are provoking yet realistic. The article grips write from the frist word till the end.
I remain fully subscribe to your views.
Thanks for surfacing our emotions through your writting.
This article brings in the real flavour of the US.India should look into its own vested interests and should give the US some sugar coated pills, like they have been doing. Its better to deal with other countries with transperancy than to loom in the dark with false promises. JAI HIND
It is the most appropiate reason to deny any Indian Visa to Mr.Bush as well as his cronies in US administration since they are also guilty of creating terror and spreading insurgency along and inside Indian borders for the next 4 years till this administration is in power. Utpal Desai
It is high time to ignore US and its "big brother" behaviour. The US is desperate to be accepted as a part of civilised world and hence its policy of extending freindly hand towards India. We can do without US. China which has high stakes (through its exports to US) has shown the world how to do deal with the world's most spoilt brat.
Just ignore US, the world will be better place if like minded peace loving nations come together and work together and the world is full of such peace loving people.
This is not the first time we are facing this double talk from US.
The attempt to Pacify India's concerns by offering F-18s is tryly pathetic. US should grow up and stop thinking that with these offers, it will still be able to retain the good will of Indians.
