Thats just a fantastic article. These are the very same things an ardent Indian would be thinking about but you have made it so clear and simple for us.
Bush administration speaks of its admiration for democracy and its pledge to support non-proliferation, by projecting itself as a global watchdog. It requires no speacial intellect to see its the huge gap between what it preaches and what is practises.
It's better to have a known enemy, with a clear agenda, albeit negative, than have an ally like the current US adminstration. Bush talks about "war against terror" more often than not, while strategically drives military business out of terror-inducing rogue states. Irrespective of what the US says of world peace, progress, blah, blah, blah, it knows at the heart of its heart, peace in South East Asia is something which they will serve their evil business interests!!! The faster this is understood by us, the South East Asians the better for us.
I dont think it is so much to do with rewarding Pakistan as much as it is to do with the politics of saving jobs in the US. What this proves, yet again, is that politics, not principles, drives decision making. If Indians are not doing this, they are just being stupid. Why blame someone else for our stupidity? No one can walk over us if we do not allow them to - that is the hard reality. The sooner we build that into our psyche, the better for us. Our school children need to be taught this. We chronically suck up to someone we as rich, or mighty. We forget the old Indian adage, "Marriage or rivalry shall only be with equals". We should learn to behave like equals with anyone, not subservient serviles, else we get no respect in the world.
In the shortest phrase what the US has done is called double talk. I was surprized to hear the decision of US to supply F-16's to Pakistan and further more to supply them to India also. Wow how generous after all Americans are known to be generous people. Look at recent history - they have been generous to President Bush by reelecting him. This president has time and again proven that he is out there to spread terror, violence and to scare his own people . Time and again his administration has taken steps towards a more dangerous world, towards creating more enemies and it has behaved arrogantly. I do not see how F-16's will help Pakistan or India to fight terrorism when President Bush himself has said in his debates that to fight terrorism "We do not only technology but men on ground", thus justifying his action to send the forces in Iraq.He himself has gone against his own words. Its high time that India takes a decision to stop supporting USA in its unjust fight against terror, as we all know that this whole drama of anti-terrorism is nothing more than a mechanism to earn money especially by defence contractors like Halliburton, whose Ex-CEO happens to be Mr. Vice President.
Hi, This is one of the best articles I read. I would like to add:
Let US compare the what happened in Godhra and the happenings in Kashmir over the past decade. US should reject visa to Pakistan President based on the reasons mentioned for the rejection to Elected Representative of Gujrat. Pak President issues a statement to all Indians to be prepared for one more Kargil if the Kashmir issue is not resolved. (Hindu Daily dated 28/3/5)
Across the globe is there any place which has been occupied by other country? Than why should we be silent on POK.
We should not be satisfied with mere promises of US and feel happy about the same. We need to show our strength to get seat in UN or Ammu from other countries and for any such issues.
( Am an Indian and do not have any Political Affiliations)
America has always tried to be big brother. Their appraoch to most of the issues is based on self interest. May be they want to sell india also F16 under pressure from the company. We have to show them the way to respect us and that is possible only if we build public opinion against them as Indira did. Our present leaders have no such guts. They can only show their begging bowl and not a club.
I fully support your views. But why our leaders stick to policy of peace when living among scoundrels all around. We should first think of saving our country and take a lesson what had happened to us when we were weak. Let us be strong in our defense needs and never think that ours is a defensive policy. We should have offensive attitude also to meet the challenge being built around us. Please read on the wall where Pakistan is going; dont you think where these F-16s would be used. Alas if we were also strong!
sir,...if pak gets any number of F-16 fighters,,or even advance than that....we should not worry at all,,,i would like to draw ur attention long back in 60s and 70s,,,that time america was having nuke submarines and a good pretty fleets of war ships...and that time india was not having even good roads, telephone, electricity and many more basic things,,,,......and just think of today,,,,, india is a prousprous country with lots of self respect and a sence of security....what america has today only fear and ofear a sence of insecurity in mind of every american"americans are not getting sleep properly , because they are guilty mind nation" ,,why?????...america is resposible for this.... so if i am able to convince you about the fact that,,,the peace does not lie in advance weaponary but it lies with healthy mind leadership... ..so we should not worry about f-16 supply to pak...pak is well known about our capabilities in case of any war...we should leave america as discarded because america is pretty engaged with muslim brothers across sting policies....and if allah is there america will not survive longer,,,,pak general is very smart and using america nicely.god bless america &pak
