ppls allover from india are comming to this city with thr work ok ,where thay are comming? at V T,CHURCHGATE means southern city in day hrs only.there are all corporate offices of private sector, all govt office ,share market, and many more all are located at southern part only.
we means govt has to do only one thing shift one part means either govt sector orprivate sector out of mumbai. only try to de-centrlise this sectors.
50 % load of trafic and public will be cut off atomatically.of course its very costly affair but now the days no body can stop the incrochments took place. entire sectors r fulled by corruption only. so this is the easyest way to allow ppls breath well.

Terrible Tuesday
by Gopal on Aug 03, 2005 10:17 PM  Permalink

The truth is that we have too many numbers. Generally, its easy to put pressure on the government by forming action committees of affected people and forcing prioritization of certain projects ahead of others.

But given the vast numbers of people in Mumbai, its hard to form a substantial coalition that can focus on a single set of issues.

My solution is to break Mumbai up into smaller municipalities. Each of the areas Dadar, Worli, Parel, Andheri etc. are big enough (population-wise) to be their own city. Its impossible to get the BMC to prioritize projects for such a large set of towns.

As for the slums, I think its impractical to think we can simply bulldoze them and the people will just go away. Its a sensitive issue. No one wants to live in slums, but no one wants to starve either. People willing to work and who earn little are many times forced to live in slums.

The government is not only incapable, its made up of people like us. Its hard to get them excited about things that are not sexy.

no proper planing cost mumbai a lot
by iyer harish on Aug 03, 2005 09:58 PM  Permalink

After the recent happenings in mumbai everyone is surprised to associate the city to e the then metropolis where people used to come to find a better future
the fact is mumbai itself has no future in the present rate. the city is least planned and it bosts to be one amongst the most richest city in the world the basic flaw is the construction it seems to be just to fill vacant places in mumbai no proper thought is put brefore even constructing a wall
you could find two adjacent buildings built at different levels which is not according the norms the roads are inn such bad state and if they are repaired we havenew layer put on top of the old one so this leads to rise of the road level this makes the buildings on the road side suffer as water from the roads enter the building during the rains
the bmc started the strom water drainage construction in mid january along the eastern express highway but later it found that thetiming was not right and it would get delayed
this is what is the only thing they know the work along most poartts is still remaining
now u know why the water logged on the highways
i fail to understand the authorities have 7 to 8 full months of no rain

hmmm!!!
by sonali on Aug 03, 2005 07:31 PM  Permalink

theses all looking good statements will remain just for writting and reading. Are all people in Mumbai educated enough to think on it? Mumbai is the place where everyone goes to earn money and not to make it beautiful. People dont love Mumbai..they just expect from mumbai...

It's bliss in disguise
by Dilpreet Singh on Aug 03, 2005 07:04 PM  Permalink

Rain god or that supernatural power has done what government were trying to do (for sure not that much disasture).
I personally think it's a perfect time to build Mumbai the greatest city it can be, bacause Iron is hot now. Get rid of all that slums now from Mumbai, work on sanitation and stuff, make it a best and cleanest city in world.

What is this ?
by PR on Aug 03, 2005 06:45 PM  Permalink

Mumbai can not be compare with any of other city in developed world. Mumbai has no class at all.

Look at the quality of local train in Mumbai India. Even cattles are being transported well in other countries.

There is no public awareness about using dust bins. They are throwing garbeg whereever they like.

Mumbai is a hell.

Where are the PETA & SPCA people???
by Ashutosh on Aug 03, 2005 06:21 PM  Permalink

Everyone of us must have seen the snaps of animal corpses around Mumbai area. Those were one of the most touching photos appeared in the news papers.
Animals cant even call for help like we do. Also when humans are so much depend on them for milk, meat, the special care should be taken during such incidences.
But what happened here was very selfish & dent on Humanity. The buffalo owners, who usually keep buffalos tied to the pole, leave them like that only resulting in a death of all the buffalos(and other animals too). It was a real cruel act. These people might not got time to untie the animals...but when did they realise that the things are getting out of control, they should have untie the animals so less number of animals would have died...I mean those animals would be of their own.
But the most disturbing thing is, for over 5-6 days, there is no protest or any such thing from PETA/SPCA. Otherwise for some silly things these people protest eg. Circus, Filming of animal for an Ad etc. Here they should come down heavily on Buffalo owners & force Govt to punish them. But such biased behaviour has resulted in loss trust, support & sympathy to them. The damage has been done.

Awareness is necessary
by Neer Thadarai on Aug 03, 2005 06:14 PM  Permalink

Tuesday was the horrible day in the history of Mumbai. Its not that it happen for the first time but its been happening for decades. The only difference was it didnt happen so severe. There were water clogging everywhere during the rainy season. Even the heavy downpour for about 3-4 hours used to shut down the railway lines and many roadways. Its the utter ignorance and illiteracy that has created this worst situation. Blaming each other is the easiest way to cover yourself, but to face it and come out with the solution should be the attitude.

Weve been observing the same situation from time and again but did nothing for years. Nobody thought of the consequences of ignoring those small incidences neither the government took the initiative to think over the facts. One fine day people suffered from such unforgettable incident and the whole country was shocked. The life goes on even if something happens to the city. First the Bombay blast incident, now the flood.

Whom to blame? Lets not blame anybody! Lets educate people! Atleast you can try to educate your own family members, because Charity begins at home.

--- Neer M. Thadarai.

mumbaites are equally to be blamed
by NAVIN SHAH on Aug 03, 2005 06:06 PM  Permalink

It has become fashion for all of us to keep on blaming the administration and play in the hands of opposition and media.

In this type of torrential rain when 93.5cm rains have been one day which country will not have problem, which city can come to normal in less than what Bombay could come?

People forget that people from the adminstration specially those who really have to do the actual physical work, they can not come in abasence of public transport, mere officials may have cars, which alo have got sub merged.

And plastic bags are the biggest enemy of city drainage system. Does any ody bother when they littering over the street and drains?

With very small bombings Life in London could take days to become normal, In India we dont take so much time.

Mumbaities are equally to blame ?
by Sure Shot on Aug 03, 2005 06:02 PM  Permalink

Yes ! Mumbaikars are equally to blame, but not those who are law abiding citizens, pay heavy taxes to all govermental departments, largely follow discipline & cleanliness, are educated, take care of their wards and MAKE THE CITY STILL WORTH LIVING ! Ofcourse you can blame the following Mumbaikars :
Those who have migrated to Mumbai for their bread & butter but not forgotten their untidy practices
Those who do not have place to stay and create slums
Those who are official BMC/ Govt. staff/ officers not doing their duties properly
Those who believe DIRTINESS IS THEIR BIRTHRIGHT
Those who bag, steal, loot and make you sick

Yes, these are the people who live in Mumbai but do not follow the spirit of the city. Blame them apart from the RAINS !

Anything to say ??

REgards,

Sure Shot
