yeah, right, connectivity is the worst. if this airport was equally bad as the odler one - we might as well have the old one.

Rediff stop publishing these articles for security reasons
by Arnab on May 30, 2008 03:20 PM  Permalink

It will be appreciable if Rediff refrains from giving so much pictorial & technical details about the B'lore airport looking forward to security reasons. The whole country is always terrfied with terror attcks & airports are the most soft targets, why do make the job easy for them.

Lets fight against this article to support security factors & helping our near & dear ones who commutes through these airports have a safe journey.

It is not ad bad as it is made out 2 b

When I booked the tickets from Goa to BLR by Jet some 3 weeks back, I always thought that by the time of travel, the new airport wil not b open..and I stay in JP Nagar 5th Phase..so naturally the old airport what i was thinking of.. To my suprise 2 days b 4 my travel the I heard the news(i was in Goa) that new airport is open and functional.. so anyway I thought lets see the new one...
ON Sunday 5.20 pm we landed and it is fine.. just 10 minutes delay for Aerobridge to be connected to flinght coz attendent was away..and then about 20 minutes delay for baggage..again the attendednt were not at seat... I guess these things will get streamlined as the crew and staff gets used 2 flight schedules.. otherwise the space and fecilities were fine.. I worried about the travel back to home from airport..just when I stepped out, someone told me there are ac coaches (volvo) availavle to different part of the city..Boarded one that goes to JP Nagar 6th phase at 6 pm..and we were at home by 8 pm ..and i just paid Rs 80/head..koool..being sunday may the traffic ws less..but i guess it wud have taken another 30 minutes more during peak hrs..so overall arriving bangalore by fligt is good experience...

It is little far but it much better than HAL airport. And the new bus service is impressive, comfortable and economica. I live in Indiranagar , but from HAL airport PP taxi(non ac) charge was 180 Rs , now although travel time is 1hr 09 minute(on sunday) , but charge is 150rs for comfortable AC volvo.Barring time , everything about new airport is good.

A suggestion
by Ranga on May 26, 2008 03:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is really a happy riding on HAL Airport road which is virtually deserted due to the shift of airport to BIA. It is a welcome decision and in fact, it came late, though come to Bangalore as latest. Thanks to all of BIAL project people for their hard work and dedication. Entire Karnataka is proud of these people.

When it comes to money matters, to avoid huge financial loss to domestic airliners, the good suggestion is: Retain HAL airport immediately for the south Indian cities of Kerala, TamilNadu & Andhra, as business people who are frequent travelers, cannot afford to spend 5 hours of duration of travel between Bangalore and any one of these cities, being the fact that a mere 40-60 minutes of flying time, the rest goes to local travel time at departure & arrival cities, plus waiting at the airports for regular formalities & baggage collection.

It is business people who travel more on flights. For them, an hour delay could cost millions of value of a business opportunity, that is why business people don%u2019t mind spending on air travel. Before they opt for private vehicals like personal car, train or bus, the concerned officials (state/central) should wake up immediately and retain HAL airport.

International cities and all the north-indian cities including Mumbai & Kolkatta, BIAL should be the preferred airport. There is no question or doubt about this.

new is not as good as you think....
by Duniya ka problem Apna problem on May 26, 2008 02:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This airport is nothing to be so proud off atleast for now....i landed on the 24th and this is what i saw -
1. Airway bridge not working properly - it took 30 minutes to get off the plane
2. luggage delayed (announced with a very smiling face) by 25 minutes due to some problem.
3. The entire airport area looks unfinished.
4. The taxi drive to Kamanahalli (40km) took about 1hour 35 minutes. So i landed at 1715 and reached home at 1945 on a saturday. cant imagine about people staying at sarjapur/bannerghatta etc what will happen...(cost of taxi to kamanahalli 600rs )

I seriously am all for change. For example the Hyderabad airport though its far from the city, its finished and well facilitated.

Something tells me a lot of businesses will plan to relocate to Hyderabad or elseware soon!!

By the way, me thinks, Laloo should take advantage of the situation and put in some express trains from other metros to banglore.

India plans to have 500 airports by 2020
India's Civil Aviation Ministry has set a target of having 500 operational airports in the next 12 years.
Presently, India has only 80 fully functional airports equipped to handle scheduled commercial, charter and defence services.

Yeah, by that way they can clear whatever greenery is left in this country. From an aerial view, the whole country will look filled with buildings and airports.

I would suggest them to have fewer big airports with better road connectivity than large number of small airports which will have lots of environmental impact. After all, roads are more important for most people.

Good news for all. NO MATTER WHATEVER THE PROBLEM IS!!!!!
by senthil kumar on May 26, 2008 04:41 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am strongly confident that this change to new airport is nothing to be compliant off. The problems we face because of traffic is not a characteristic of our growth, but due to our problem of low adhearance to traffic rules. This new airport is a reflection of our (INDIA's) growth in accepting and receprocating to our needs. Let us not compliant of our traffic and look for ways to solve it. For people who need the old airport, a question to them. Are you sure the traffic problem is going to be solved in Bangalore if you use the old airport? No. It is just an excuse to our lasineess to say that we will live with our comfort levels which is not helping us and otheres. I appreciate the good efforts we are atleast able to catch up at last. though it is in the emergency operating procedured.

Kudos to all people who have helped us to reach this place, what ever the intentions the reasons for them to take this.

Well said. If you do not have basic traffic discipline even if you get a 10 lane road there will be traffic jams. Also you can't expect the airport to be next to your house

What About the Reality?
by Satya Banerji on May 25, 2008 12:29 PM  Permalink

This airport is built on invaluable arable land. It has been by foreigners in preference to deserving and competent Indian organizations. Ratan Tata and Narayana Murthy lead a galaxy of prominent Indians who have disassociated with the quagmire of corruption that has accompanied this ill-conceived project. It is such a massive inconvenience to commute to and from this energy guzzling monolith that air travel links with Hyderabad, Chennai, Mangalore, Hubli, Coimbatore, and Cochin lie shattered. I am indebted to Rediff for virtual relief from the ground horrors of ordinary citizenship in Bangalore.
