Alexander - arguably - the first Invader of India (some historians point to Darius) and later on Lord Clive's army - both succeeded in defeating Indians not because they were supirior in warfare - but because an Indian supported them in defeating a fellow Indian. The 'Dog in the Manger' attitude of our's is surfacing again - as appears from the reading of a few of the previous posts. IT salary should come down, some are shouting themselves hoarse.....reason - not known. The weakening of dollar, layoff in US ....all that garbage is no reason for IT salaries to go down. If the payout on a variable component is reduced by TCS, that does not necessarily mean that all IT companies are to reduce the salaries, sorry to dishearten the doomsday-sayers. TCS, in the IT field, is well known for their undercutting tactics and volume thrust approach. This has resulted, anyway, in a very compitive salary structure, those in IT industry, very well realize - that this kind of a module can not sustain even nominal economic slowdown pressures - that is showing. This cut, definitely, will remain only in TCS, that too, temporarily. so...Cheers
I think the issue has been misinterpreted here.It is a salary cut for employee who were stupid enough to believe that VARIABLE component is FIXED..The company just intended to give a heads-up information to its employee that the earning growth does not allow them to declare 100% bonus ( for the company part). Cmon rediff, dont put such misleading headline as you generally do for a filmi gossip...
Variable word means that the pay is not fixed and it varies. Whats the point of the article... variable pay is hardly 100% in any sector why IT only .. at times this variable pay is 130% then rediff or media does not report that .. since slowdown is in news so media wants the news that way ....... ridiculous ...
They need to show their absolute loyalty to their share holders rather than employees. Employees please do know that you work to create value to share holders at the end of the day....many facts are didden from all is because they can't afford to loose money on the shares...there will be a correction in the salary..
In future IT professionals also will have to work hard to earn money. The salary in 2010 for fresher is going to be 8-10,000 per month. Call centre will soon follow the lead. All the people with good jobs now without higher education are doomed
at least TCS have some wise managers..well done..and keep going..there are thousands of new comers to the software field who are ready to work for 10k pm ...they are specially trained especially for software jobs (MCA,NTTF,DIPLOMAS..)Not like core engrs ( ECE,EEE,CE,ME )who are playing a dual role now a days as a softy. These ppl were trained for some other things...and acute shortage is there in the market for these engrs..but this white collar job made them like this.. god knows how these ppl will survive after this devlopmnts...more over in US lay off already started ..many on site softys will flow back to india...wats the future of softy who left homeland for a huge package...

hey mr babu it has not come down its a variable pay so some day it will be 130% :)
I have been in TCS and then left it. TCS always finds an alibi to reduce salary or give its employees as less as possible. They did the same in 2004. Its nothing new.All the reasons they have mentioned are just for show-off.Enjoy...you TCS employees and have fun. Now that US-onsite in not so lucrative, any plan B?
Dear friends, Don't you think, there should be equality in society. Being a software Engineer I have seen people getting more than one lac per month just for showing their faces in the office. Above all this they act as though they have come from the heaven.
I pray, the salary in IT should go down, so that common man can think of living atleast a good life eventhough not luxury one.

o is it ??? those guys molesting women outside 5 star hotel in mumbai were IT proffessionals ??? u dumbo .. dont be jealous .. :)
I think this is a welcome move from TCS. The IT industry today is facing severe challenges from 4 areas. a. US economy situation b. STPI rules coming to an end on Mar 2009 c. Rising wage costs d. Rupee appreciation against dollars
Given these above factors, it is too difficult to sustain the growth rate going forward. All stakeholders in this business of IT (shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers etc) will be forced to bear the brunt of these challenges. Customers will face renogotiation of billing rates. The shareholders will be forced to revisit the fundamental valuations of the IT companies given the fact that bottomlines will be under severe pressure for the years to come. The suppliers will be squeezed for competitive rates. And the employees will also be affected through some effect on the salary levels. And that is the whole concept of variable pay.
It is good that TCS has led the way in accepting the ground reality and taking decisive action to address the same. I'm sure other IT companies are going to take a leaf out of this book and follow suit with similar moves.
