How practical is this?

Indian companies having 360 degrees feedback? You only hear about it but there is no way to see it. Coz it doesn't exist. Especially companies like Tata enforce more of an authoritative way of management sending the message "Boss is always correct".
It is not just the boss, the higher management has to understand the importance of 360 degrees feedback. There is this EGO which kills appreciation of the fact that there is a smart chap out there who can outwit bosses.

Most of the reader's comment are same as mine.

still bosses are able to keep their personal agenda. Where is the problem ? Are we not able to push our points to Top Management or Top Management is so ignorent and does not care for 360 degree assesment.

I woked with some IIT-IIM bosses and they are vary capable and hence so much fair also. mostly illegimate bosses are unfair.

The situation in Europe and US is much better than India and Asia in this regard.

This article sounds more like a sales and marketing article... The fact at the end of the day is if you want to have a better and progressive career you better learn to say 'yes boss' or else you would have no option but to keep jumping from company to company... All this story sounds interesting to listen and all companies tell these stories through their HR teams... But how many of these Indian companies really care for employee feedback in real sense? Hew... Liers...

Employees have become much smarter than the boss. so even for a small decision, it is advisable that boss consult employees and subordinates to keep the Thumb rule 1 valid.

A true boss is someone who acts as a role model for his subordinates, always inspiring them to put in their best efforts, away from the 9 to 5 regimen. The employees are so inspired that they forget to look at the clock, forget their week- ends & are willing to do any thing to see their boss happy. Do such bosses exist in reality ? Yes, believe me, I have worked for some.

This true boss is able to draw complete willing loyalty from his subordinates, not based on fear. He retains this loyalty by demonstrating on a continuing basis, his superior leadership skills and acts as a role model.

To the top management, he represents & escalates periodically the subordinates%u2019 interests and gets internal solutions in real time. To the subordinates, he acts as the face of top manage- ment, setting the vision and goals, that need to be achieved thro%u2019 sheer teamwork and makes sure the targets are achieved. More importantly, he has a rewards system in place that rewards excel lent performance in a timely manner.

Do such excellent bosses exist ? It is a pleasure to work for them and people generally are willing to give up even two years, of course, the last 2 years of their life span, for an opportunity, to work for such people.

Unfortunately, the tribe of such bosses is declining and with the onset of US companies into India, they are being by replaced by the %u201C2 minute noodle%u201D bosses who want to pursue their own personal agendas all the time to somehow reach t

Many of private sectors are like baniya shop (provisional store)(one man is ruling) and others are for namesake (whether it is Pvt. Ltd or public Ld. company). This article reflects for the MNC companies and their are just countable while the Indian industries are run by the medium and small scale industry owners. peek in the culture and you will find the same attitude everywhere and that is why you will find vacancy in the papers and net. Few companies are refelected in each month for one or other positions. Why dont the bossess and Managers give few mintues ti think that why the empolyees are leaving the job. and if they find the answers I think the company could retain their talented and loyal employees for years to go.

Your thought is very much applicable to desi company. Whatever turnover they will have, they will never grow in terms of value chain. They are suitable for baniya shop only. Their manager are just a** licker.

In India, an employee becomes boss if he /she is able to please the big boss. Sad part is that most of such people are incapable and do not deserve the position.

Leaders are Born not made

Leaders/Managers are born. Just that by all these trainings they are fine tuned. By training they cannot make a leader. It is yet another leader who is capable of identifying the people who have that capability and promote him to that level. Since companies are growing at fast rate they make anyone and everyone a leader and it causes problems for the leader and his subordinates as well. The whole organisational thinking should change to clear this mess up

Leaders are not people who have people have following them but who listen to people and still be a guiding force to show path more importantly correct path.
Sometimes leaders are not people who lead from front but actually make people themselves to push to higher levels and sadly not many leaders in organizations can boast of that capabilities

THis may work with a good soli company with a strong HR. But in a private sector the boss is still a bully threatening that to sack his subordinate,even if the Boss is incomptetant.

No BOSS would take the blame themselves, they will find some scapegoat and put the blame on others. This is the usual practice. That could be one of the reasons (as mentioned in the article)"Very often, people don't leave companies, they leave bosses, (Anita Belani, country head, Watson Wyatt.)

This is valid only if the company has an extremely solid HR system. Otherwise this makes no sense and unless pushed to the extreme, people generally do not want any conflicts with their bosses. Who does HR listen to? The boss or "complaining" subordinate?
