In a democratic country, 'attrition' points out to enjoying one's freedom
by svishnumohan on Jul 29, 2007 07:59 PM  Permalink

In the 1970s - 1980s, a leading company installed IBM Main Frames in its computer division. Those days, getting a computer literate person was very difficult. Therefore, any recruit who would join the Computer Division, and by merely TOUCHING THE IBM MAINFRAMES, would know that His real worth would be 100 times more in the U.S.A. than being in India. Many such recruits would join and leave the organisation within an year to get 50 to 100 times more salary abroad. The Company was "large hearted" and they did not mind people joining and leaving them frequently. Most of the start up companies in the last two decades would be by professionals either leaving TCS or INFYs or other organisation. From HR point of view, whenever a person leaves an organisation, it is a loss for both - for the person and for the organisation. For the person, he takes time to get settled down and after a period of time his root starts getting on a firm position in the organisation. For the Organisation, they provide him space to sit, to adjust to the environment (time factor), all sorts of training goes including Induction and so on; it all costs money to them. If a guy just walks out when he is supposed to be on the deliverable list, it is a loss for the organisation. But today, people are driven more by instant increase in pay checks and benefits and more say in project management - perhaps these could be the factors for the high attrition rates. If the employee is changing for the better, i

by kj jk on Jul 29, 2007 07:13 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The Indoan rupee will continue to rise against the Dollar and the IT companies will find that the land under their feet is shrinking...then they will turn up to their employees and suck their blood by asking them to work overtime for the new projects that they might have commited to at cheaper and competitive rates, the companies may even cut down on costs drastically by voluntarily showing the doors to ppl who are not hardworking or underperforming.....i personally pity the IT guys under this situvation,as now their tortured soul has been again put to harsh tests...u ppl are great if u survive this situvation...amen..

It is a mirage

High salary in UK in terms of Rupees means nothing. You have pay about 30 percent as tax. Then your tiny flat cost you 70 percent of your net income per month. You end up with such a small money you have to count whether you will drink tea or coffee to save money. People in Britain are really poor, they dress poorly as they cannot afford better.
I have worked for an American MMC in London, I had to go there at 7.30 in the morning, I had to stay until 10 pm. I had to take work home for the weekend. There is no overtime. even then they can sack you because your unit may not be earning enough profit.
They take blood out of you in UK. Indian living standards are much better. In UK, they are not at all educated. Most programmers do not know any mathematics at all. They may not have even ordinary graguation degree from a college. Most of them are high school graduate with one year Diploma in IT. They cannot do anything related to mathematics, that is the reason they give these projects to the Russians/Indian/Chinese.
So if yo think you can give up job ijn India and go to London with big salary think again. A cup of tea in London will cost you Rs.400, rent of a tiny flat in a bad area of the city will cost you Rs. 90,000 per month. Almost half of the salary will go away as tax.

But Indians companies make you sick with politics ! Indian managers expect you to touch their feet all the time and just doing your job the best is never good enough! I would rather earn less than do all these

I feel the main reason for this attrition is it is very easy to get a job in IT companies Unlike in any other fields. As, it is easy people tries to pick up the best in the market interms of package, onsite, comfort & brand.

Infosys also sucks
by sharad khandelwal on Jul 24, 2007 09:32 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I joined my dream company Infosys(Bangalore) after completing my B-Tech in IT.I was immediately put into a delivery account without undergoing any training as they had an URGENT requirement, but spent the next 2 months on bench, then I was transferred to Pune DC as they again had an urgent requirement.Again spending 3 months on bench after reaching Pune , I finally got into project, but soon that project was scraped and I was again on Bench. This continued for around 1.4 yrs when my 1 yr contract with Infy ended and I decided to quit this this crap company.
Mr Murthy says that he started Infy because he was fed up with the bania raj prevailing in India.
Come and work with Infy , you will yourself experience what bania raj is.
The higher the designation you hold the bigger the room/cubicle you get in the office, delivery managers enjoy massive room in the office while 5-6 software engineers are made to sit in a small cubicle.
Now I work for a MNC and my Account lead sits just beside me.No rooms and no cubicles and no bench to spoil your career.

Infosys spoiled such an important 1.4 yrs of my career, Infy sucks man.

U r correct sharad.

I don't understand why these indian companies hire fresher in such volumes, when they cant give the projects to its resources on bench.

I know many of my frnds who were in free pool since 1 year. This really spoils the career.

The indian companies shatters all the freshers dreams.

But had you not had your first oppurtunity @Infy you wouldnt even be looked upon by that so called MNC.
with just 1.4yrs of exp if you want equality, with so many yrs of exp and knowledge dont you think seniors deserve some consideration.
Just getting involved and doing what you r supposed to do is what is important.

Every Organisation has got its benefits and pitfalls. Just that you didnt like it, doesnt give you right to downgrade it.

Take care.

True story about all Indian service company
by venktesh takkalki on Jul 24, 2007 09:11 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hi friends...
Thanks rediff for putting this news on Ur website. I do agree with what the comments are passed by many IT guys. It is really horrible to work as a servent. The belt system in Indian company shows the mentality of cheap managment. What is the need of having red belt ...etc in private companies. We should teach them good lession by leaving the companies. Please tell to ur friends not to join these companies ever in there carrier.
My friends working in wipro suffered like anything. He didnt get any perk for his performance not ever recognized at right time.
