Why is rediff targeting only desi consultants and supporting indian and US tech companies. Fact is that even the best US tech companies like Oracle and Microsoft continue to pay less than market rates to H1-B's. Desi consultants hire ppl from C-grade colleges and exploit them using contract employment and low pay. American companies hire from top colleges and exploit by paying low wages, why target only desi consultants? To give an example Oracle hired 711 H-1's paying between 60-80K in California to S/W engineers, whreas max rate was between 90-140K, i.e. they hired top talent and payed 60K less than market rate(http://www.flcdatacenter.com/CaseResults.aspx?DataSource=eh2ZU0EnrRA=&DataYear=JhBposWZP5M=&WorkState=IadniXCrsB U=&EIN=HqX6gT3JRBs=&EmpName=28phJoU01iY=)

yes, i know for a fact that Microsoft hires people fresh from school precisely for the same reason.
however the focus of rediff's article is not about low wages for H1-Bs but about visa fraud i.e. consultants showing non-existent employers and jobs on the H1-B application.
Oracle and Microsoft may pay lower wages but atleast the jobs are real.
When i was doing consultancy for the so called desi consultants i was sharing an apartment with a couple of guys from Infosys and Cognizant . They were freshers out of college given 3 months training in India Facility and were sent to US as Project managers.
Every night i had to sit with them to brief them up with small small things as the general Lingo of the corporate world so they could better pose as Managers.
I dont know abt their software development skills but they turned out to be brilliant actors.
www.ebasusa.com based in Jersey and California(Take 10k deposit from students here in the US , to help them find a job , sponsor visa ... All their marketers do is look up dice n monster. )
www.Nutech.com -
These are companies i worked ( or should i say in their terms " WAS ON THE BENCH " for) and had the same experience .
I am still fighting my case to get my paychecks out of them ...
We all should make a list and send it in to the COnsultates for inquiry.

I worked for this consulting company. They will take 6 months to find a project for you. Most consultants find projects for themselves. The marketing is very bad. Their guest house is like a pig shed
No bench pay. Salary is very irregular. The trainer who gives training have very less knowledge.
Do not join eBusiness Application Solutions. They rip you off and they are cheats.
Nothing is perfect in this world, be it in US or India. US gives H1 to get its highly skilled job done with least amount of money and at the same time there are ppl who breach the rule and exploit innocent ppl. After all everyone wants to come to the US. This country provides better life style. So getting a little less doesn't matter to some folks who just entered US on H1. Now coming to the point of fake experience, I've interviewed ppl who have GC and don't even know how to speak proper english. Every thing looks so fake on their experience. They can't even answer normal tech. questions. And when you talk to their consultant they usually tell you that this guy is very good blah blah blah. But it is a reality. the guy happened to be a gulti. So my perception about gulti have become more and more stronger about putting fake experience and entering into US. It doesn't mean that all are alike. But there lot of such guy. Its kind of disgusting. There are much more smarter guys who are waiting for the opportunity but not able to make it because they are the unlucky ones who didn't get their H1-b petition thru the lottery system.

US does not give its highly skilled job done with least amount of money. H1-B regulations stipulate the employee is paid wage at the prevailing rate as set by the Dept. of Labor. It is the desi companies & bodyshoppers who give a salary different then on paper.

You are wrong, the prevailing wage is not set by dept. of labor, it is the wage estimate by any valid survey. Therefore I can conduct a survey which says software engineer salary is 20K per annum and get H-1B for that wage

if thats true, it is even worse. for it would mean the desi body shops and companies could use a survey of their manipulation to show a low prevailing wage.
i guess in such a case the responsibility lies with the person who takes the job knowing the wages are low and not in line with prevailing wages. the options are either not to take the job at that wage or report the issue to the Dept. of Labor.
i know its a tough choice. and involves some sacrifice.
the law in U.S. gives fair avenues to report and redress injustice. but unless people start standing up and taking either of the two options, nothing is going to change.
Everyone who approaches these fraud companies make an informed decision. H1-B bodyshoppers have seen a business opportunity and they are just benefiting in current situation. No one forces these aspirants to apply thru these bodyshoppers.
On other hand, I agree that enire bodyshopping market in US is mostly fraud. People just change resume based on skills in demand. Everyone is forced to show last 5 years in US (even if s/he has landed in US day before); just clear the interview and then give fake references. That's the reality whether someone likes it or not.

You are 100% right. I am abt to complete my masters and I find very few jobs for entry levels. Infact every job wants experience so I know what I need to do to bag a job here in the US.

It is clear, Rediff guys who wrote this article do not have much idea on this issue.
These consulting companies, as Rediff pictures are not fraudulent. You can always find some problems in any system. Blaming the all the consultants is not right. These guys are definitely not exploiters compared to Infosys or TCS. All these big firms pay very less in US for their employees. Thats the reason, they jump out, once they are in US... to these... so called fraudulent consulting companies. Rediff should know the Truth of the industry before they publish

the point is not whether tehy exploit the job seekers. point is that they cheat while finding jobs. Rediff and more sites should make this awareness
