may be true.. but GRG at least helped the middle class man realize his dream of flying. How many businesses help do that?
I recently had to book a ticket for an evening flight and guess what I found on the booking site?? High cost Jet airways and kingfisher had fares lower than all these low cost carriers by at least a few hundred bucks and in case of deccan I think it was by as much as 1k!!!
My profound thanks to Capt Gopinath for allowing common man to know the ture cost of airline operations. But for him I could have been paying for someone else's inefficiency. I am proud to have supported his movement right from 2003 by being a frequent flieron AD. Best wishes to him for all his future endeavours, which I am sure will again touch the common man

I totally agree here. Whatever one says, it was only because of Capt. Gopinath that the elite airlines then (Indian airlines and Jet) and the rest of them operating now have become more affordable. Can you imagine, the prices in 2002 were almost three times they are currently charging! I feel he should get out of Kingfisher and start a new revolution in some other business sector.
Hats Off to a Man who made revolution in aviation history of India and made air travel possible for common man.But an industry does not live by dream alone. It has to be financially and economically viable to remain in business, where Capt Gopi failed miserably. But then had showed the way, we will remember him for that.

Chandra Babu opened his own airlines? We did not know? By the way Mahatma Gandhi done 1000s good things to common man. When compared to Gandhi, Sri Chandra Babu is nothing. Oh yeah! Mother Teresa also done 1000s good things to common man. When compared to Mother Teresa Sri Chandra Babu naidu is nothing.
CAN YOU EVER CRACK OUT OF YOUR REGIONAL SHELL AND THINK BEFORE LETTING YOURSELF LOOSE OVER THE INTERNET? We are talking about aviation industry, not sabzi markets.
I am sorry to say that Captain gopinath had created a pretty bad airlines.Cancellation of crafts with passengers stranded and no refunds was a day to day bussiness for them.I remember to see (used to feel pitty as well) on a manager in mumbai who used to be at the wrath of the passengers every time the flight used to be cancelled .I believe he must be under some finiancial problems otherwise who will wish to do a job like that in a trash airline.I have also seen a program of deccan airlines on discovery where they showed Captain conducting his day to day affairs and I am very sorry to say that he did not listen to any suggestions. He used to interrupt his staff memebers time and again without paying any heed to their say.It is very easy to do a bussiness but difficult to do a profitable bussiness.
Pkl. afternoon, 4.40pm., Monday, 31st Dec. 2007 Now Air Deccan has merged with swashbuckling bibbler Vijay Mallya's King-fisher for "considerations " he has to witness the total loss of popular efficient and frugal Air-travel by Air-Deccan by the lower classes of emerging professionals in India in this beginning of Aviation revolution in XXI st century . Well, the old elitist consumption under the buoyant Mallya could not market Captain Goip Nath's other work norms... Mallya goes for his Market Axioms , naughtily saucy girlie hostesses , oomph and bibbling hard Liquers..these are the hall-marks of nouveau -riche whom King-Fisher desires to provide the biggest single platform on his business -Plans.Captain Gopinath's sedate and austere dreams do not survive these lusty debonair practices , which is stock-in- trade of the southern Liquor Trader..D. Goel
He inadvertently pioneered the "air farce" in which India has and will continue to have the undisputed lead in the world. Thanks to myopic policy makers we may never become leaders in truly low "cost" aviation. No prizes for guessing who will in a few years' time. China. Unfortunately Patel & Co have zero interest in low cost carriers in India and are only fiddling while they fly abroad.
RE:What Gopinath Really Pioneered

Here is my rough and ready analysis. Domestically India is currently at 30 mppa. At least 40% are low fare. If growth continues at a conservative rate of 15% CAGR, we should have 60 mppa in 5 years. China is at 180 mppa with a negligible low fare component. If its growth is 10% in a restricted regime for 3 years and 15% in a more liberal climate then it will have about 300 mppa after 5 years. If even 5% of these are via genuinely low cost aviation, the number would be 15 mppa. So India would have to have 25% of genuine low cost travel to match China. That is the challenge India faces in competing with China in low cost aviation. Will our policy makers be able to rise to the challenge? They are the weak links in the chain not the Gopinaths.
Deccan airlines was no better than Mumbai-Pune volvo buses. It used to fly only when it was full. I had worst experience the day I purchased the ticket from Nagpur to Mumbai. Fortunately, I decided that it was my last adventure with air deccan.
